Match Thread Man City (A) - Sun Feb 23rd 16:30

Not looking for a negative but just leery of weak points as I would be concerned they will be used against us in upcoming games.

But you raise a fair point. Fantastic pass for the second goal. Can’t lose sight of that.

Just concerned a better winger than Doku will not only beat him time and again but show some end product.
A winger with actual finishing power - let's say Vinicius Jnr in the CL semis then.

Even though Trent struggled in some moments against Doku he deserves credit for the way he responded and his effort. Was exhausted at the final whistle and lets be honest Doku didnt create anything at all with all his dribbles and step overs.
Trent didnt seem switched on at the start but slowly and surely he defended like the rest of the team.

I think there's very few FBs in the world that Doku doesn't get past a good proportion of the time. He's rapid, with amazing acceleration, and he's built like a tank. Luckily, he's a rich man's Adama Traore.

Has to be mentioned that the drop off for KDB this season is absolutely insane. He looks finished.

Salah easily outshines De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have mirrored each other as leading men in the Premier League. They even share the status of being discarded by Chelsea, but Sunday’s match may be where their paths finally diverge. Salah delivered a goal and an assist while De Bruyne was a shock selection, unused by Manchester City in Madrid. On Friday Pep Guardiola hinted the Belgian’s time at the club was done. If Sunday was a last hurrah, De Bruyne misfiring passes and chasing shadows was a brutal reminder of how time catches up with even the very best. Where the Belgian exhibits physical decline from sheer miles on the clock, Salah, just a year younger, played to his peak, often buzz-sawing into midfield areas De Bruyne once commanded. The Egyptian king’s contract situation remains at an impasse, the sense being he awaits the right offer from Liverpool. De Bruyne may now be reduced to mere cameos as Guardiola rebuilds, a sad coda. John Brewin

I don't think Dom should be off the hooks yet, he has to show consistency. Trent still looks like a dear in headlights when he is faced with an opposition player.

He's been pretty consistent lately. Where I'd say he needs to improve is in his goal threat, which was a fair bit better when he first arrived.

Citys new CB will turn out to be a good signing I reckon. Quite impressive yesterday.
Yeah, I can’t help but root for him a little bit after that horror start he had in his first game. Was one of their better players today, but have to say in attack Marmoush carried all the threat. They would have been hopelessly flat without him – like others have said De Bruyne looks finished and Foden, Grealish etc seem to have all life coached out of them.

Yeah, agreed. Just saw he misplaced one pass all game and his speed saw him save them on a few occasions.
He'll be a good signing for them.

Marmoush was very good. Signing him and selling Darwin in the January window would have been good for us.

Grealish is stealing a living. Lets be honest.

At some moments?! He was annihilated - x8 in the first half alone. We're lucky Doku is actually shit but that's nothing to do with Trent. Had that been Vinicius Jnr for example, we'd have been out of the game by HT.
I'll give him an A for effort but the dumb kid in class tries his hardest too. He's never going to University though.

Doku created 0,1 xG from all his dribbles and shuffles and dance moves on the left in that game. So I'm okay with Trent getting beat and pushing him as planned towards the byline..

Each midfielder was brilliant for a period of time each. Grav, Macca, now Szobo.

Jones should take us home.

Nah, Trent did get beat too easily on several occasions – there was no sense of shepherding Doku into a pre-determined area from him, he just got beat left and right. Fortunately Slot anticipated that and basically got a combination of Gravvy, Konate and occasionally Salah to collectively do the full-back’s job.

He was skinned and his bloody corpse left on the touchline. The fact Doku is shite, can't shoot, can't pass and can't cross (as I said prematch) after that is irrelevant. Trent was as much use in that first half as a bollard.

Oh and the byline is level with the goal. Not 30m away from it.

I've got to say, as much as Doku had him yesterday, I was more concerned about the continued drop off of Robertson who missed his 50/50s versus Savinho far too many times and left 10/15m behind.

At least Trent didn't do that.

Yeah that too. Robbo is falling off that cliff.

Yes, as said he was beat with ease several times at the start of the game. Felt like he grew into the game and kept his position better as the game went on. Gravy, Ibou and Salah helped obviously.

Trent got beaten in 13/19 "take-ons" with Doku. That's 69% of the time he was beaten by a winger.

It's a wake up call. How do you think we would fare if this was Gordon, Vinicius, Mitoma or Isak and there was "end product" from the winger?

And that lean in, he does when someone easily goes past him. Jesus wept. Just try and stay in the foot race.
