David Coote

Using the gay card to get sympathy how unoriginal. None of that explains or justifies all that shit he said on the video. So we're meant to excuse it now because he's a taker rather than a giver?

100% my thoughts. The one paper you do not give an interview to if you have any genuine remorse. He believes he's a victim.

Remorse? As far as we know the extent of his crimes was bad mouthing Klopp, for which he's been sacked and basically had his entire career ended. Not exactly a war crime is it.

Id be remorseful if I destroyed the career that my family depended on because I was doing coke and helping make videos highlighting all of it.

The pgmol haven't done any war crimes yet, and that's the best thing I can say about them.

You can blackmail someone about something that causes their entire career to implode, that people didn't know about for a long period of time. The suspicion should be that he was blackmailed and I'm awaiting a thorough clearing of the air that will never come.

Yeah I'm guessing that the information is not that he was gay per se, but probably something much worse.

Maybe the coke fueled orgies during covid, or little boys.

Maybe I'm wrong but I tend to think of remorse as a deep, conscientious regret for some kind of moral failing, not just mere regret for a personal mistake. As for the effect on his family - I seriously doubt Nomad had that kind of consequence in mind.

You don't think he has exhibited a moral failing?

Well, the pgmol agree, because alarmingly, we are told he's one of the good ones.

Maybe he's an oak, totally uncorruptible by the lure of points shavings schemes, but for his achilles heel, a love of skiing. It doesn't come across that way to me.

We can't know though can we? Why would we want to make sure that gambling syndicates didn't get to him? It's much more important that we have the crucial info that he likes dick. Nice process boys.

I shouldn't know anything about these refs. I should just vaguely hate some of them.

As far as I was aware nothing has been proven (or maybe even seriously alleged?) regarding betting syndicates, blackmail etc. But I don't follow it that closely. I thought that right now all he's guilty of is the comments about Klopp.

He was sacked for breach of contract - getting filmed calling Klopp a cunt and snorting coke.

Also, I think it was partly calling him a “German cunt” as that’s pretty easy to file under “discriminatory behaviour”.

The cunt calling bit is hardly a major crime, but it made his job impossible.

Getting caught snorting coke was just the nail in the coffin and made his sacking inevitable and easy.

Personally, I don’t buy his “excuses”, I’ll bet he loved the notoriety that came with being a Ref, right up until the point he found out the videos had been shared.

100% his “redemption arc” involves the I’m a Celebrity jungle and a big bag of cash.

An absolutely wild leap

If he was blackmailed I'm sure it was to do with him being gay. Football fans are, by a large, horrible bastards, and will all get involved in making his life hell with "humorous " chants.

Oh I agree he had to be sacked. I was just confused why people were talking about him as if he's already been proved to have done much worse stuff.

Giving an interview to that shit rag tells me how sincere his regrets are.

Have sympathy for any personal challenges he may have faced related to his sexuality... But also, fuck him cause he's still a cunt.
THIS.

The mans a bellend, so he goes and does an interview with the shithouse cunts who outed him in the first place. And with that RAG too. Nah, go to hell

Nigel Owens of a different parish showed how to deal with life's issues without the need for drugs and still maintained a balanced attitude to the pressures of top level sport.

Anybody who's pretending that his life wouldn't have been turned upside down in the male dominated (basically, male only) world of professional football by coming out whilst still a referee needs to stop living in a fantasy land.

Somebody on this very page has already proposed that little boys were involved, FFS... Can you imagine he never-ending abuse he'd have received from fans of every single team, every single time he didn't give their team the decision the fans wanted? He'd have been living a very public nightmare.

I completely understand why he (or anybody) wouldn't want to come out, and I do not hold that against him. I also completely understand and believe that this constant hiding and the pressure that must come with it contributed to him turning to booze and drugs and whatever. I do feel for him, in this regard.

None of this is why he was fired, however, and though it may explain why he was in a dark place personally, it doesn't justify or excuse his behaviour, and it changes my feeling on THAT aspect of this story (his firing) not one jot.

I genuinely hope he gets back to a happy, healthy place in his life. But he has no place in any position of authority or influence in football, as he clearly has bias against at least one team, and that cannot be allowed. End of discussion.

Well said.

He sold his story to that fucking rag. The same rag that blew him up in the first place. The man is a grade A bellend, for that alone. Absolutely not arsed about his sex life, I was about to say I don't even know why it's a story, but it's a story because he's made it one. A slight fork in his narrative, an attempt to get some sympathy perhaps. Yes it does shine a light on the bigotry that doubtless many hundreds of footballers have hidden from via a loveless marriage, which is very sad and kinda weird in this day and age. It's also nothing to do with him happily admitting his bias and clearly allowing himself to be blackmailed.
