i’d say the treatment of gallagher and chalobah has really pushed the discontent, say you do ‘make it’, you might very well be first out the door as a young englishman due to it being better for the accounts.
The policy of amassing a large number of players for several first teams, coupled with exceptionally long-term contracts, would likely not motivate an ambitious academy talent. Moreover, where else would Rio choose to go if not to the club that has signed only one first-team player this season?

Yeah… poor the Pele having to squeeze “Arrantes do Nascimento” on the back of his shirt!!!

Virgil doesn’t have van Dijk on his shirt because his father abandoned his family when Virgil was a kid so fuck having his dads name on his shirt.

Yeah, fair play. But then I'd change my name officially and altogether. I wouldn't want it in my passport either.

This lad looks like the real McCoy. Definitely Sterling signing type vibes. I think this guy will progress pretty rapidly.

What's mildly interesting is that this could demonstrate that the youth players are already, and rightly, seeing no pathway to getting into the bomb squad, let alone the first team.

Chelseas academy has been genuinely successful in the last decade, James, Mount, Gallagher, Solanke, Nketiah, Abraham, Hudson Odoi, Christensen, Olise, Broja, Chalobah, Tomori, Coliwell, Gilmore have all come through it at various stages. Very few clubs have produced that level of players playing at the highest level and it's been key to them balancing the books. The point here is that it wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if there isn't more young, exciting players that can be tempted away. I'm sure many scouts are circling like vultures.
Agreed. Chelsea's ridiculous spending has sent a clear message to their youth players that there isn't a pathway for them into the Chelsea first-team. Sooner or later, they will have to leave, because they won't get to play for the first team and the club will need to sell them for profit to keep the likes of Nicolas Jackson on the books.
Rio has shown them you may as well move sooner rather than later, now it's on us to show them that other clubs have a better pathway for youth players.
And if you're a young player looking at moving on to get minutes, learn from Carney Chukwuemeka and give Chelsea a wide berth. To think he left Villa because he didn't think he was getting enough opportunities (or maybe that was code for "money").

Problem is, they're buying all these kids for years and then offloading them for a decent wedge to balance FFP, it's all just still part of the same loophole exploiting bullshit. I know this is a compensation package, but still, in other cases they've made decent returns

I really hope we don't do some shit like this:

On that last note, are they capturing the youngsters early coz they run those after school clubs ? I live in central Essex and my boy attends the after school clubs run by Chelsea. Most of the other kids attending are regular at local clubs as well. Do those of you living further away from London have local clubs run by Chelsea ?
Wait, you’re an Essex boy?
