I can understand that a waitress doesn't actually care on any level bar a tip whether I have a nice day or like the food, I know they are just pretending, but if they advertised to millions somehow that their restaurant is shit behind the scenes and they may or may not scrape my curry off the floor, they get sacked.
This guy put himself in a position that he could be blackmailed and advertised his bias and lack of judgment. You then look at all his various fuck ups over the years, the conclusion is "there's no pattern to his fuck ups, I've looked at dozens of horrible decisions and the only pattern seems to be how horrible they are." Yeah maybe. I get your point but I'm immediately left with empathy given the amount of times I've ever spouted drunken shit (thankfully not for 7 years now - 7 years last month actually). 1. The professional side, he's done in the PL but TBH I don't care if he refs in the Championship.
2. The humanitarian. We all hate somebody, some team and frequently out ourselves saying it - his idiocy was he did it on camera (why record it if not to show others). However should his wife and children be made to suffer because of it? Of course not, she likely didn't know she'd married such an idiot. So I wouldn't want his whole life and that of his family's destroyed because he slagged off someone in private.

He has a very privileged role refereeing the biggest league in the world and one of the most important institutions in England. Hes shown that he has personal vendettas and it’s clear he’s acted on them to bring the league into disrepute.
He can find a different profession. There are plenty.
You can be sympathetic to someones position and still want them to be punished fairly. That's kind of the whole idea of any civilized concept of justice; that it isn't retribution, or born of anger.
