Lucas Leiva today

Anyone know more about Allen's injury? All I have read is that he took a knock.

If he's out for the weekend I expect Lucas will start against City.

I think too many people are too quick to shout agenda at Modo, and they are those who often get the same taunts thrown at them. e.g. Mystic (Hendo is a legend) and Mark (Johnson is shit etc).

When Johnson is great, and he has been lately, I'll call it out, I don't go on an agenda driven attention seeking hunt, pointing out that when he is playing well he's just "doing the rudimentary basics". And I don't contradict myself by saying as much, and then lauding (say) Martin Kelly as proving himself because he plays half a good game. He's a WUM, so please don't compare me to that bollocks or fall into the trap of "ahh, poor Modo only has an opinion", because it's a million miles from the truth.

Come on, most of your praising of Johnson is followed by the 'but he's inconsistent' kind of remark.

Lucas was great, but the switch to the diamond midfield was even better. Took control of the game once we got out of that stationary midfield 4 shite.

It's been the crucial axis for us throughout the season, being able to reshape and change the personnel as fit in midfield, from those four (five if you include Couintho). Amazing really, given when we started the season alot of people were worried about our midfield because of the way it was overran at times last year. If anything, our Achilles heel has been an unsettled backline.

but he is. I'm more often than not fair with it. I've always said he's a great footballer (I've reiterated that comment a million times on here, probably because no one EVER acknowledges it), but I have my reservations about his consistency as a defender. When he's in this type of form he's brilliant. That's not quite the same as what Modo has done in recent weeks, in deliberately hounding out Flanagan in every match thread and playing down every ounce of positivity thrown his way.

We all have opinions on players, sometimes strong ones, people get fucked off with Modo's staple "if you can do keepy ups you're amazing, but if you're scouse and more heart than technique, then you're not really a footballer". It's tedious. The double standard of him then starting a thread started about Lucas, by stating that he "proved himself today" - in half a game, is grating.

What's more irritating is people saying it's just an opinion. Yeah it is, but hes trolling with it and he knows it, there's only a couple of posters on here who don't see through it, content to jump to his defense. Poor the Modo.

I like Flanno but I think Johnson's a better defender (and player, obviously). He's had quite a lot of wingers go past him this season, while when we had Enrique on the left it hardly ever happened.
Modo's gone the extreme route with his constant criticisms but there is a point to it.

Course there is, he's not infallible, but he's also young and inexperienced, it happens.

He's learning and getting better. Skrtel and Johnson are experienced playing together on the right half of our defence, they're comfortable with each other and know eachothers games, Flanno has had an indifferent Agger next to him and now Sakho, plus he hasn't had the advantage of Henderson and Sterling both coming across to help (as they do on the right). He's more or less covering the entire left flank on his own at times.

There's not many full backs who at 21 weren't letting wingers passed them

There will be some irony if the cultured Agger and the Brazilian Lucas end up being fall guys to our current more expansive, out and out attacking brand of football.

I'm a big fan on Flannel, but just imagine how great we'd be if we had an attacking fullback like Coentrao on the left, we'd be even more lethal.

It'd be nice if we had one who could defend though

Cissokho was meant to be a good attacking full back

Very true, but I think our system lets us get away with fantastic attacking fullbacks at the cost of their defensive game, more so in the diamond system.

Happy for Lucas to play so well with the Brazil coach watching on in the stands. Perhaps he'll make a late push into the squad for the world cup. Feel a bit for Coutinho, he had a poor 45 mins.

See, you're Modo-ing again!
Don't know about Agger but I certainly see Lucas being a very very important part of our squad as long as he doesn't demand to leave.

Next season, with the champions league, there will be more than enough games for him and the others.

"Lucas deserves a special mention. I think there was a lot of pressure on him - the Brazil coach was here to watch him. He hasn't played much of late, but he's come back and worked his socks off to get fit," Gerrard told the club's official website.

"The ball he played for the second goal - people have been raving about Coutinho all year and the passes he has made - but for me, that was right up there with Brazil's best. I think that helped us go on and get the win.

"So it's great credit to Lucas and I think it shows that in this squad now we have a bit of everything - a bit of class, a bit of skill in Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho. But we've also got some steel. We have lads here who want to roll their sleeves up and dig in. That's what we did today."

C'mon now you're exaggerating and you know it. That pass was nowhere the level you're claiming it to be. Ok you love lucas which is fair enough. I dont see in him what you do but everyone has a right to their own opinion. But to say its up there with brazil's best is a MAJOR stretch evrn for any lucas fan.
