I have said it before and I say it again, the Thais are no pushovers. They could have won against us and even the Mancs in this pre-season.
The result isn't that surprising, I knew the Thais would be quite good.

They usually make us look like novices and we still managed to cause the Scum problems.

But some of our players, particularly the youngsters were shocking.

Babel played well, but it wasn't hard to look good in that bunch.

If the players acclimatise, they just might DH.
Trust me Y1, the Singapore team is terrible.

Meh.

I just don't want any major injuries. If the lads are match fit come the opening day, I'm happy.

We NEVER won a pre-season game during our 80s pomp. FACT. ish.
Jeez, we had some shocking results, but they were hardly even reported. It just didn't register in those days.

Didn't we lose all our pre season games in Shanks first season? lol

Liverpool's Martin Skrtel suffers hamstring injury in friendly

• Nabil El Zhar also injured in pre-season friendly
• Babel scores but Liverpool held in Thailand

guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 22 July 2009 17.32 BST Article history

Liverpool lost central defender Martin Skrtel to a hamstring injury in today's 1–1 draw with Thailand in a pre-season friendly. The Slovak international came on as a half-time substitute but lasted only 10 minutes on a rain-soaked afternoon before grabbing the top of his right hamstring and walking gingerly off the field.

Nabil El Zhar came off soon after with an injured right knee after attempting a bicycle kick. The club's medical staff are assessing the players but the Liverpool manager, Rafael Benítez, admitted his disappointment at the injuries. "They were not the best conditions here today and the worst thing was to lose Skrtel and El Zhar. The idea of the game was to improve match fitness, so to lose two players is bad news," he told the club's official website.

The midfielder Xabi Alonso, subject of intense transfer speculation about a move to Real Madrid, did not make an appearance. Fernando Torres made his first appearance of the pre-season, coming on for the latter stages of the second half.

Liverpool's starting team contained five regular first-team players: Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt, Lucas Leiva, Ryan Babel and Daniel Agger. The opening goal came in the sixth minute as Carragher played a long ball into the path of Babel, who outpaced the defence, controlled the ball and slotted past the goalkeeper. But Liverpool looked rusty, struggling to combine effectively in the attacking half. Babel volleyed another long pass wide and had another effort stopped by the goalkeeper.

Thailand's equaliser came in the 72nd minute as substitute Sutee Suksomkit played a neat one-two and calmly placed his shot past the onrushing substitute goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Liverpool changed 10 players at the break, with their new signing Glen Johnson coming on and playing in an unfamiliar left-back position, while Javier Mascherano and Andriy Voronin were among those also given a run-out in the second half.

what ridculous attempted bicycle kick that was by el zar. nabil, there are easier ways to impress the mananger, try juggling three balls whilst drinking a glass of water.

The thing is, I can understand the commercial and financial aspect of our tour to Asia. But for preperations for the new season, it's not very ideal is it?
Poor conditions, horrendus pitch, poor training facilities, jetlag, humidity/climate, stress and injuries.

That pitch yesterday was shocking.

Agreed that, but then it's one way or another. We can't stay a big club if we don't do these world tours, it's the only way to keep up with the likes of Utd and Real (as much as it is a pain to say).

I actually believe by training under difficult conditions might do a player good especially under high humidity. If they can hack it then under better conditions they should do better.

Bollocks. When you're coming back from a summer holiday, the last thing you need is being put under the most testing conditions you'll face on a football pitch.

Skrtel's a mong for not warming up properly.

The players are not exactly going all out in that game. Hardly break a sweat umm perhaps sweating due to humidity, not physical exertion. Just a steam bath.

"Not physical exertion"?

It's still a football game, and I don't know which game you were watching but it was end to end at times. Someone even commentated that Carragher looked fucked by HT.

We're there on the back of a cash cow. There's no other logic behind it.

That, and the fact that every player slipped and slided all around the pitch. I was just waiting for someone to pull a muscle. Hopefully he won't be out for to long.

He and El Zhar have travelled back to Merseyside today.

When have we ever seen Kuyt and Carra panting so hard before half time except here in the tropics. It is due to the heat and humidity. Apart from Babel, I do not see much exertion from the rest and most of them were sub after the interval anyway. Once they got use to the heat and humidity, it will be a stroll in the park with proper re-hydration.

Last night,60,000 people would have sat in those uncomfortable seats for at least 3 hours before the game in hot and sweltering conditions, and then in torrential rain in the hope that they'd see players they've seen on TV for years and cheer for their team and for once, just ONCE, have the team hear them cheer.

It didn't matter that the team was basically kids wth the occasional cameos by the big stars.

The club might be able to put a financial value to that, but I certainly can't.

As for the game itself, the conditions were very humid and wet.The Thais also have a decent team, as we in Malaysia can attest to.

The tour may not be important in the grand scheme of things, but it means a lot to millions of fans.

It's a bit cynical to say the only reason is financial, Squiggs...even if it's probably true.

Why can't LFC milk the commercial cow from their good brand name?

We complain when LFC do not have enough financial muscle.

Thailand>Singapore>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Malaysia.

The Manc win against Malaysia was just a fluke guys, we're on the right track now!!!!

The financial gain we get from the tour itself is minimal,Mike.

Q : Nobody really cares about the results, staying injury-free is more important,.

And that's kind of messed up.

Of course the money from tis tour is minis-cue but the PR exercise generated is great for future commercial tie ups
