It's a good post and a fair argument. I don't agree with it though, because (a) IMO he's one of those players whose reading of the game compensates for his slowing down with the years - as evidenced in one or two England appearances as well as in club football - and (b) because in those circs.he'd be coming on against tired defences, especially given the way we run them ragged when we're playing well. If we can get a better option as 3rd/4th choice then by all means let's go for it, but that'll be harder than some on here seem to think, besides which we have more urgent priorities elsewhere IMO.
