Teehee apparently Chelsea wants to sign him.
You could see why though.. he would fit into their team...

Rodgers needs to find a system that can play to his Strength so he stops looking useless most of the time..

That being said I thought he was decent against QPR in the first half..

If we sign a new striker & Depay or someone similar - how are we going to fit all the attacking players in the team.

There aren't more than 4 positions, including striker - that would leave Depay-type, new striker, Sturridge, Origi, sterling, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic, Ibe - and not including the youngsters coming through like Kent, Yesil & Sinclair.

We don't need him.

I'm not even sure we need Depay-type & a striker- we need a top quality striker and should be targeting someone top tier who will deliver goals - we need to spend big on this one.

We need a Deepay type player, because at the moment we have no decent set piece takers..

Well maybe the £40m+ striker can take them.

We need Depay - because our attacking midfield don't score enough goals.

Yep... that too.. But he is a winger not a midfielder.. he will play in the front 3 in a 433 formation no doubt

He has the potential to be a reverse winger type player.. BR loves..

"a fearsome striker of the ball with his right-foot but is usually used an as inverted left winger who cuts onto his right foot. A pacey and tricky player, his direct running makes him a difficult opponent for defenders"

He is a sort of winger/left sided cut in on the right forward. Mr. Rodgers will tell you his exact description if we sign him.

Yeah..... so if sign Depay (which we won't) - then we're going with 1 upfront - so that makes Lambert 4th choice for 1 slot - which means he's only getting into the match day squad when someone's injured.

I suspect you are right..

Lamberts game would thrive from having decent wingers who can cross..

We don't have any of them.. Henderson is probably our best crosser.. and he is not even a winger..

Maybe Depay is to be seen to fix that grey area.. though crossing is not the strongest part of his game either

There's more to Lambert's game than that. He wasn't just an old-fashioned British up-and-at-'em no.9 at Southampton but spent plenty of time dropping off, dragging defenders with him and playing others in around him. He could do that for us too without Rodgers having to change the team's overall style.

I don't think he could Jules - I think he's a decent striker at a mid to lower level premier league team that will indulge on what is needed to make him effective - and play him constantly.

He's too slow and limited to play for a top tier team and won't impact significantly, for those reasons, when brought on late in a game.

It's a good post and a fair argument. I don't agree with it though, because (a) IMO he's one of those players whose reading of the game compensates for his slowing down with the years - as evidenced in one or two England appearances as well as in club football - and (b) because in those circs.he'd be coming on against tired defences, especially given the way we run them ragged when we're playing well. If we can get a better option as 3rd/4th choice then by all means let's go for it, but that'll be harder than some on here seem to think, besides which we have more urgent priorities elsewhere IMO.

Well in the semi final against Villa I think we played 4 different system, and still everyone looked useless....

I tend to believe that someone without pace coming on late, plays in to the hands of of tired defences - you want someone pacey & direct.

Let's not kid ourselves - Lambert is no Teddy Sheringham - he's an average, journeyman striker, who'd be great for a lower level club, but shouldn't be in our squad and only gets a pass because he's a scouser.

Lambert has a v.good agent - securing him a deal to us and now dangling the prospect of a transfer to chelsea as a reason to keep him.

I thought Lambert wasn't suppose to fit into our style of play. I thought he was brought in to provide us with something different.

He would have been a much better option than Aspas and Alberto versus Chelsea in that bloody match last season.

We know what we want and what we need. Unfortunately the club decided to cash in on Luis Suarez.

75m doesn't look too clever now.
So Luis didn't want to leave and wasn't begging every club qualified for CL to come and get him?

The only thing wrong with 75m was that it wasn't enough.

Don't forget guys he was also banned for the first 4 months of the season. So £75mill for him in my opinion was a good price considering his World Cup antics

[article]Chelsea are considering a shock move for Rickie Lambert as a possible replacement for Didier Drogba.

The newly-crowned Champions had the 33-year-old Liverpool striker watched as he played the whole of Saturday’s 2-1 win over QPR.

The west Londoners are set to get an even closer look at Lambert next weekend as the Reds’ next game is at Stamford Bridge.

The former Southampton striker joins Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor on the Chelsea shortlist to replace 37-year-old Drogba - third choice behind Diego Costa and Loic Remy - who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Drogba has confirmed he wants to continue playing but boss Jose Mourinho has yet to confirm whether the Blues legend will stay.[/article]

A mere whippersnapper compared to Drogba so obviously hasn't reached fill potential yet !

75 million was a fair price given the 'baggage' you get with Luis Suarez.. It was just spent extremely badly..

Lambert should have been given more playing time, he'd have proven to be more useful than he has been. But as said, with Origi, Sturridge and hopefully another striker (we should still buy one, we need goals FFS), plus the versatility and ability to support from the likes of Sterling, Ibe, Coutinho and Markovic, I don't there's really a place for him next season. If we want a powerful presence then that's what Origi's got the potential to be, right?

Lambert's best performance to date for Liverpool, including laying on the first goal, seems to have sparked off a thread rubbishing him!

au contraire - a one off average performance is being used by some as a means to whitewash his shocker of a season.

Lambert hasn't had enough games for his season to be described as a "shocker."

I think if he had been given all the chances Balotelli was given, he might have done quite well!

Lambert - 22 appearances this season - scored twice.

Balotelli - 15 appearances- scored once.

They're both shit.
