Johnson - worth persisting with ?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Glen Johnson is better at left back. Why? He has to think about his defensive responsibilities more... It's not natural to him.

On the right hand side, far far too often, he loses the ball and is a general liability.

He's the best we've got.

So that's that really. That's not to say he can't be improved on if we buy someone, but there are probably more pressing concerns.

Is he worth persisting with?

Do we have a choice?

I'm a fan of Johnson but I will admit that he infuriates me at times. He fancies himself on the ball and can be a bit indulgent. A few times today he made weird 'clearances' that left me scratching my head. What on earth was he thinking with that mini clearance that lead to the Lucas foul for one of the Everton goals? What was he doing marking Lakaku for that corner? I won't blame him personally for that but odd that he was picking up their biggest threat. He is decent in the air but one of our CB should be taking the responsibility there.

He is still our first choice RB and we really miss him when he isn't playing. I wish he would concentrate a bit more, something he seemed to do a bit more at LB.

play Kelly as RW for youth team in 1-2 matches that will give him some confidence to attack. We just need to bench Gelnho in between then he will be WC for us

I've always been a Johnson fan because I think he's a talented footballer. That said, he could have cost us at least three goals from his mistakes today. He's just so lackadaisical at times. I think if there's any value left in him then we'd probably be better off cashing in than offering him another contract. Provided we can replace him someone better, of course.

Hes still our best right back by an absolute mile. Are there better players around? Yes but they wont be cheap and right now Id be prioritising the gaping hole in the middle of the team rather than an upgrade at right back

How long is left on his contract?

You often hear this on SCM .... however no-one can ever suggest an actual replacement that is better, available and affordable. In fact the vast majority say there are higher priorities. Says it all really.
