What's everyone's opinion of him now after a quarter of the season?

As you can tell by my title, I'm not a fan really. A lot of our problems are caused by the middle 3. We have two sitting and one further forward all the time, winds me up. We don't need two sitting, especially at home.

But anyway, back to JS. I don't think I've ever seen him pass the ball forward (bar the one to Suarez against City). He keeps the ball yadda yadda yadda but it's not enough for me, especially for 15 million.

To put into context, we got Alonso for less, who kept the ball, played defence splitting passes and also weighed in with goals.

Allen is a modern day Jamie Redknapp. Without the goals.

His should buried the chance he had.

Would have him ahead of Sahin In team who seems to be lost in our league games

He's been very poor the last two games. I think his ability to dictate play is being hurt by the fact he's playing DM, which isn't his forte.

I hope Lucas's return gives him a much needed boost.

He seems to have lost a bit of confidence and has been uncharacteristically giving the ball away lately.
He's a better player than that, but you're right, he's no Xabi.

I don't agree with that. He gets plenty of the ball in the final third and does fuck all with it. Not all his fault as we're still very annoyingly static when someone has the ball in that position.

Amazing thread. He's a brilliant footballer, having a bit of a dip in form.

This is going to be the next 'Xabi was shit for 2 years', isn't it?

As an aside, the Alonso comparisons are pointless. Alonso was born and bred a deep-lying holding player. Allen's been forced into playing that position for the first time in his life.

I'm not really a fan of Sahin either.

All 3 are poor for me. Can't wait for Lucas back.

Not at all. I don't particularly rate him and haven't since Swansea. Not just the last couple of games.

I think his form is a symptom of the midfield we play. Sahin and Allen seemingly want to play the same role, and Gerrard is abysmally out of sorts this season

We need to try a different combination

I think shelvey, Allen, Gerrard, sahin will all play better if they had any dedicated DM behind them. But yes, at the moment, he's gone right off the boil

It'd be knee jerk if he's basing it on recent performances.

He's not a fan

I don't do knee jerk. Check my posting history. I only start threads in the football forum when they need starting.

Too many people on here talk so much bollocks, I don't get involved usually.

Fans have been screaming for years for a player with real intelligence in the team and Allen is such a player. He's not in his best position yet but everything he tries has a logic to it and that's such a blessed relief after so much witless punting in the past. He'd be cheap at half the price as far as I'm concerned.

You do Shalom Biznatches all the time.

I just checked your posting history - of your 9,417 posts, only 213 were made when sober if that is of any importance to you.

He wins the ball well as per the Stirling chance. That was a forward pass to Luis.

I like Him, more than I ever liked Masher

Sorry Macca, I don't agree. Time will tell. He's a crab. I like my Midfielders to actually try and go forward. Anyway.

And Leo - it wasn't hard was it?

He passed the ball forward on many occasions today and won his fair share of tackles.
Unlike Gerrard who took a shot from 65 yards out and couldn't take a fucking corner.
Joe Allen is the least of our worries.

Piedro is right in that he's not as good as a lot of you imagine him to be. But he's also not as shite as most of you will decide he is in a few months.
