Joe Allen, LFC midfielders and midfield combinations and now the Jordan Henderson thread

deal not to sign Swansea players?

Swansea's record fee for a sale is £2m for Jason Scotland.

If we offered £15,000,000 for Joe Allen they'd roll out the red carpet for Ian Ayre and throw a little party after.

I think he showed a few times last season that he has an eye for an incisive forward pass. With confidence he'll be doing a bit more of that.

He played two balls that were amazing last season. Both 'slide rule' passes that had they been done by Stevie people would have slobbered over.

Allen in my opinion is an intelligent footballer. He obviously has proven with swansea he's effective with his short and long range passing and has deceptive pace, something which henderson/shelvey/aqua lack.

lets get him signed around that 10m mark and concentrate on then securing a pacy winger, with a brain and with a direct edge to his play giving us 3 goalscoring threats up top like most top teams in the world.

Nice first post. Hope you like the site.

How'd you find us? Just interested to see if our search engine optimisation is working!

That's true Jon, but if you change the emphasis slightly, it doesn't sound quite as impressive, does it? Two great balls in an entire season. From a midfielder. Who made 48 appearances. I could play two great balls in 48 games. I look for a slightly higher success rate from my £16m, £60k a week footballers.

Meh, I'm merely showing he has the tools in his locker, he just rarely used them as his confidence wasn't high enough.

I expect that to change this season, but as Rodger's wants a short passing game, & that's his speciality then he should be fine.

I'm not sure this should go in here but hey ho...

Swans agree Allen fee

AllenJoe_v%20Chelsea.jpg

Swansea midfielder Joe Allen looks to be heading to Liverpool after reports claimed the two clubs had agreed a £13.5m fee.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to land the midfielder and a move appears to be on the cards despite the former Swans boss promising not to raid the Liberty Stadium for at least 12 months.
Michael Laudrup has yet to speak to Allen, who is away with Team GB preparing for the Olympic games, but the chances of him staying now look remote after Liverpool firmed up their interest.
The midfielder has not handed in a transfer request but is keen on a move to Anfield and Swans chairman Huw Jenkins believes £13.5million is too good an offer to turn down.
Laudrup will also be handed the money to strengthen his own squad and he should have enough time to find a replacement.
It is now feared that Allen's imminent switch to Anfield could encourage Rodgers to move for other Swans players with Scott Sinclair also thought to be a target.

What's your source?

The story goes that..........After Bob Paisley & Joe Fagan (I think it was Fagan but could have been Roy Evans or Peter Robinson) had completed the signing of King Kenny from Celtic for the bargain price of £440,000 Paisley turned to his colleague and said "Come on, let's get out of here before they realise what we've just done".

If we get Joe Allen for £13.5 we need to shake hands and leg-it........don't wait for the ink to dry Brendan!

Hahahaha....I think Suarez was a bargain as well.

The one thing that ,makes me think that this isn't just another case of a new manager bringing in a player he worked with previously, to replace a similar standard of player already in the squad is your whole hearted approval of the deal.
I hope you are right P.

Allen is quality and will definitely improve our team. Unlike henderson he's not mentally weak. In fact if you notice the signings rodgers is going for are players that are mentally strong, good work ethic and good first touch. I can see henderson only getting games until lucas is fully fit. After that he'll be a bencher i reckon as backup to gerrard maybe. Downing, adam, spearing and carroll need to be flogged off asap.

Jaysus Count, yer putting a lot of stock in my opinion of Allen, I hope I'm right too, I'd hate to let you down 🙂

The way I see it is, he's a cracking player in his own right but added to that he'll bring out the very best in our most talented players (the ones most comfortable in possession) i.e. Agger, Borini, Gerrard, Suarez, Suso* etc in that he will dictate our pace of play and he'll be the catalyst for us becoming a pass-and-move team as we were in the 70's-80's.

The reason I put Suso in the list of "best* players is because I think him, Suarez and Allen could become our Xavi, Iniesta, Messi (talk about high expectations 🙂.

Fingers crossed I'm not spouting a whole heap of shite.

Now Leon Britton, Sinclair, Sigurdson (sign him from Spurs!)... and the whole Swansea Team for 50m...

soz if this has been said on this thread somewhere but does this mean that it is bollox that we could not poach any Swansea players for a year ???

that was what I thought was the gentlemen agreement between Brendan and Huw... but hey ho..

It was never that simple anyway, in that the agreement contained a get-out clause to the effect that we could make an approach for a Swansea player if (an)other club(s) had already done so. Either that's happened in this case or Swansea have chosen not to hold us to the agreement, presumably because of (a) the size of the offer we told them we'd make, (b) the player telling them he wanted to leave or (c) both.

A club like Swansea is not going to compete for the PL / Champion's League for the next 5 - 10 years so there's no point in holding on to a top player like Joe Allen who can bring in much needed cash to strengthen the squad.

What Swansea wouldn't want is for BR to unsettle JA to get him on the cheap, or mass target the young and good players that Swansea need to keep improving. If he took Britton, Sinclair, Dyer, Vorm all at once it'd be back to the Championship for them.

Joe Allen for 13.5 million is probably something that both sides want to happen. It's a bona fide win-win situation.

I have to say Pesam, I have also warmed to this deal because of your enthusiasm. I agree on Suso too. I really hope Brendan at least has him on the bench for next season.

When you put it like that, that's potentially mouthwatering, *if* Suso and Allen reach their best for us. And Allen actually signs, of course.

I hope we sign someone Rodgers hasn't worked with soon. I'm half expecting Shane Long next.

It is worrying. On the other hand, it's comforting that almost everyone talented who has played for BR seems to respect and love playing for him.

It was the opposite with Benitez - players came for his reputation but also started leaving when they couldn't get along (allegedly).

If Allen flops I'm never gonna be able to show my face on here again.
