Joe Allen, LFC midfielders and midfield combinations and now the Jordan Henderson thread

Nah Hendo will come good. I'm sure of it. As I said the other day I watched last seasons dvd review and he came across surprisingly well. A couple of nicely taken goals and mostly while being played out of position.

It was such a waste playing Henderson out on the right, and unfair on him. He's a good player: wonderful technique and a good, quick, intelligent passer. I'm really starting to think we shoud play him through he middle, back him, and see what he's made of, and leave the Allen signing for now. I mean, sign Allen if money's not an issue, because it's a decent investment in its own right, but how much of an improvement is he going to be over Henderson? Marginal, surely. So if money is tight better to spend that £15m on a striker or a wide forward where we really are stuck for options.

I know what you mean, Allen seems to be highly rated and all that but I hate when coaches bring in "their players".

We need a central midfielder regardless, and Allen is a cracking signing.

As usual Spurs are interested aswell

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers poised to trigger midfielder Joe Allen's £15m exit clause at Swansea City
10:00PM BST 24 Jul 2012
It has emerged the Welsh club are bound to allow Allen to leave if any of five clubs - Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal - meet the valuation.
In what has become a complicated deal, other clubs outside those five could bid less for the 22 year-old and conclude his transfer, but it is clear reuniting with former manager Brendan Rodgers is the Welshman’s intention.
Liverpool are hopeful they will not have to pay as much as £15 million onceSwansea City accept the player is destined for Anfield, but they may now have to go that high to conclude negotiations. Rodgers made it clear last week that if the player was subject to bids from elsewhere he would make his move for the youngster, who is on Olympic duty with Great Britain.
There is plenty of interest in the Welshman, outstanding in his debut season in the Premier League. The only delay at the moment is the fee.
It is a strange anomaly that Tottenham, who finished above Liverpool in the Premier League for the past two years, could technically bid below the stipulated fee than the five clubs named in Allen’s contract.

That has made Anfield officials push for a cheaper arrangement.
Tottenham have already scuppered one Liverpool deal - that of Gylfi Sigurdsson - by offering excessive wages, but Allen’s eventual move to Anfield looks inevitable.
However, it is looking less likely Liverpool can significantly reduce the asking price as Swansea try to maximise the valuation on a prized asset.
Allen would be the second major signing of Rodgers’ reign, joining Italian striker Fabio Borini who joined the Liverpool squad for the first time when he landed in Boston on Monday.
Rodgers is trying to work with a significantly reduced budget compared to that of his predecessor, who was able to spend in excess of £100 million to rebuild the squad.
He is weighing up if any players can be sacrificed to raise funds, having been given around £20 million plus whatever he raises through sales. The problem for the manager is many of those he are available, such as Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani, were handed bewilderingly decadent contracts, making them unattractive purchases.
With Borini already signed for £11 million and Allen to follow, the transfer of Clint Dempsey from Fulham has also stalled over price.
Like Allen, the American is keen to move to Merseyside to be part of Rodgers’ plans.
The need to raise funds makes many in the Liverpool squad vulnerable, although the new manager now has a stronger contingent on his pre-season tour as the English players have also rejoined the squad.
Rodgers met striker Andy Carroll face to face for the first time on Monday evening, the former Newcastle striker under no illusions what may happen over the next few weeks.
A bid of £20 million from his former club will end Carroll’s 18-month career on Merseyside.
If that does not materialise, the 23 year-old will have the opportunity to prove himself but initially as a squad player, having to reshape his game to a more fluid style which will not encourage long, direct football.

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen after the two clubs agreed a fee of £13.5 million (€17.3m), Goal.com has learned.

The Welsh club ignored the contractual clause agreed when Rodgers moved to Merseyside which was designed to ensure that no Swans players could be signed by Liverpool for a minimum of 12 months.

Swansea had hoped to command a fee of £15m (€19.2m), which would have activated Allen's release clause, but have agreed to a slightly lower valuation following last week's arrival of Spanish midfielder Michu from Rayo Vallecano in a deal worth £2m (€2.5m).

Liverpool hope to finalise the transfer before the end of this week

Are goal.com considered reputable nowadays or ?

If we do sign him then we're pretty stocked in midfield with him , gerrard , lucas , aquilani , henderson , adam , spearing , shelvey ..surely something will give before the summer's end .

read the report. it's complete bullshit.

See now... NOW im starting to worry that we arent signing any class players.
We still have 6 weeks of transfer window left but im still awaiting one of the players I want
Higuain
Jovetic
De Rossi
Munain
Martinez
Johnson
etc
Borini....DEMPSEY.....Allen!??!

Good grief.
The only good thing to say about our *cough* rumoured targets is they arent as spensive as last years shit.
Hardly inspirational.

Well then, it's apparently a done deal.
So, good bye Aqua. It was a pleasure while it lasted.
Dah well at least you'll be taking Dunkin Donut man with you.

I have deduced that signing Allen would mean that both Aqua and Adam are gonners.
Well Aqua was pretty much always a sure thing.
Honestly i dont want a clear out. But im not sure if i care about anyone actually leaving. Except for Lucas, Johnson, Gerrard and........no thats it. Anyone else can leave if they wanna.

Last summer's transfers depressed the fuck out of me, this season's arent' exactly exciting but it's better.
Dempsey, Borini and Allen might not be super stars but I'm confident that they'll all contribute.
The difference for me and the only reason I'm positive is the potential affect our up and comers may have.
Shelvey is a year older, Suso is looking bright, Pacheco has been impressive in lately.

I'm actually quite happy. Sure, we're still missing a marquee signing and I'd love it if we all were wrong about Aqua but I wouldn't be too disappointed if doesn't pan out.

I'm not sure that this was ever going to be an off-season to splash the cash. We did that last year with disastrous consequences and I'm sure the owners don't want a repeat of that. I wouldn't be surprised if they have tasked Rodgers with seeing if he can get anything out of the players we bought last year rather than just immediately jettison them as bad news all round, and massive loss-makers; this in tandem with adding a couple of his own mid-range signings.
Apart from Allen & Dempsey, if they happen, if we don't offload Carroll, maybe that's it.
We are at the start of another 'project' and, as I think I mentioned somewhere else, it's probably going to be a gradual one.
Might be wrong, who knows, we might spend 100M next week? Doubt it.

Allen in my opinion is an intelligent footballer. He obviously has proven with swansea he's effective with his short and long range passing and has deceptive pace, something which henderson/shelvey/aqua lack.

lets get him signed around that 10m mark and concentrate on then securing a pacy winger, with a brain and with a direct edge to his play giving us 3 goalscoring threats up top like most top teams in the world.

Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Adam, Shelvey, Henderson, Spearing and now Allen competing for three spots in the starting line up.
Something's gotta give.

Welcome. Great start. Hope you keep posting.
I hope you're not Paddy

See below- this reaks of BS- especially the 15m release clause. Considering Rodgers has a deal not to sign Swansea players unless someone else has made a bid.

Sky Sports understands that Liverpool are edging ever closer to completing the capture of Joe Allen, with the Reds confident a deal will be done.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted to holding an interest in a man he worked with during his days in the managerial hot-seat at Swansea.
Sky Sports brought you the news that Allen

was a top target for the coaching team at Anfield, and that they were working hard to put an agreement in place.

It is believed that negotiations have progressed since then, with Liverpool

said to have triggered the £15million release clause in Allen's contract.

The Reds will, however, be forced to wait a little longer before pushing a deal through.
Wales international Allen is currently involved with Team GB at the 2012 Olympics.
It is looking increasingly likely, though, that he will be on his way to Merseyside once his quest for gold medal glory comes to an end.
