Rumours that Trent is out ‘for a few weeks’ with knee injury.

What to do about that in January?

Probably nothing. Bradley starts, performs well, keeps the position and Trent moves to midfield on return. Bish bash bosh

FFS, you weren't even joking either.

We ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO sign a defender now. RB or CB.

We know a few weeks really means a month at least, which is still about 6-7 games even with the break.

2 pl game. 2 league cup semi. 1 fa cup game
5 games with 1 will most probably be kids

Gomez or this kid at RB

He’d be backing himself, as a top prospect, to get games and learn from the best, with the view of forcing his way into a starting spot over the next 2 years.
Gomez is not a starting CB and will remain as cover for the defensive positions (or maybe even look to take one of the full back slots that he’s much more suited to).
if we extend Matip’s contract, we’re simply doing the right thing by him, not with him being a serious starting option in mind in 2025.

We need a top CB to come in so we have four genuine options. I’m not sure why that’s a controversial idea for any Liverpool fan.

A top CB who's 18 years old in the Premier League? It's doable but it's a big ask.
But my point is that unlike someone like Gomez who was and up and comer in the Championship, I believe. This kid is playing at the highest level in France in a team in the top half of their league.
It'll be better for him to stay put and play regularly than moving to LFC at this point in his career when we already have 4 or 5 CB's who Klopp trusts.

He wouldn’t be first choice so no, would not be top CB in the premier league at 18. He’d be 3/4 cover and play cup games for now.

Granted your point re whether he’d be advised to take such a move, but we’re a huge club with a brilliant manager and with world class cbs to be mentored by.

As for having 4/5 CBs that Klopp trusts, that’s not the case right now. We have VVD and Konate as trusted leaders, Quansah emerging fast but still on a learning curve and Gomez who is better suited to full back cover / starts, having lost the trust of Klopp at CB. We have roughly 2.5 and need more.

Klopp would have signed another CB in summer if he didn't trust our 5. Just like when he got rid of Lovren and signed Konate.
The plan was probably to give Matip a year to prove his worth, something he was about to do until he broke down.
If we get the French kid, it'll be a summer signing not mid-season. We've also got Bajcetic back in February hopefully.

Won't rule out the possibility of us recalling Ramsay (who's not getting games at Preston) to back up Bradley.

Ramsey isn't getting games because he's constantly injured. I doubt Klopp will feel forced to play him.

Be pointless, how's a kid who's not been getting games in the championship in any fit state or position to be (and let's be real here, probably be our only fit RB come next week) fit to play for us.

We need to go into the market, but before we do that we need to wake Jorge up from his Ibiza suite and tell his arse to get on the phone to some agents who can give us some cut price deals for their defenders.

Perhaps I should have added a 😛 at the end of my post. Just thought our transfer stance is that firm that a Ramsay recall will happen before a signing will be made.

…but Matip is no longer an option (now or in the future I’d imagine given his stage of career and severity of injury) so your 5 is already a 4. Then given Gomez has long lost his CB position (hence the signing of Ibou and promotion of Quansah) in favour of being (good) full back cover, he’s no longer a strong contender in a complement of four CBs at all - how confident would you be in a Gomez - Quansah partnership in a title run in?

The loss of Matip (who was arguably 2nd choice at the time) and injury record of Ibou makes a signing vital - we need 4 CBs that we’d be confident in starting whenever the need arises.

Finally, Badger is not a CB and will need careful managing this season anyhow.

Sorry buddy, bit annoyed today with the whole ballot results delay and now this.

I reckon Juan Foyth at Villarreal and Sacha Boey at Galatasary are 2 good cheap options we should be looking at for the RB/CB positions, what do you think?

We are buying no one!

Trent Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool defender out for three weeks with knee injury

If we buy a defender that we would potentially get in the summer, but do so early, then great. Obviously all for that.

If we just buy someone like Davies or Kabak just to make up the numbers then I probably wouldn't bother.

What about someone that lies in between?

Not every signing needs to be that top of the mill, Virgil or Dias type, I'd even take a fucking Klavan right about now.

Boey looks like an interesting option - started keeping an eye on him after he was linked with Arsenal last season. The major challenge with moving for players like him and Frimpong are, since they are playing for clubs in the midst of chasing for glory (Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are neck to neck this season), it's almost like a no-go this month.

Singo was someone we were linked with when he was still at Torino (back then playing more RB/RWB) and has continued to develop this season at Monaco (playing more as a CB in back 3). So IF there's really movement this month, perhaps his name might pop up. Having said that, he's away for AFCON.

I very much doubt we're going to buy a defender this month who is under 20. Klopp would want ready made, experienced players. I could also see us recalling van den berg before buying anyone however.

Seems to be our annual conundrum. Run players in to the ground, decide we can cope, then fail. the Kabak/davies signings were the only ones out of pure necessity

Honestly, I'd be more comfortable with a Gomez - Quansah backline than a kid from France that has never played in the league.
I notice that you're using worst case scenarios.
And in a worst case scenario, Bajcetic is a CB. He plays in that position for Spain's U21 and he did it for our reserve team too. That was his preferred position before.

He’s not played for the best part of a year and isn’t currently anywhere close to returning…he’s not an option.

OK just to be clear it's not like I would be disappointed if we signed a CB. I'm just saying that it's unlikely because as Klopp said in the press conference, he already has 4.

Stay put and play for an inferior team with inferior colleagues and inferior coaches in an interior league ... or play and train with probably the best CBs in the world, better colleagues and with one of the best managers, for one of the best teams in the world and in the world's premier league?

More games or better coaching?

Fair enough, I’m not so sure Klopp would say in a presser that we’re actively looking to recruit one this window. I think if there’s an identified long term target available, we’ll make it happen.

Either way, let’s hope VVD and Konate make it a moot point by staying fit and dominating things for the rest of the season.
