I've seen this lad play a couple of times (mainly recognise him before it's rare for an Argie Ginger.. clearly from the Irish settler ancestory like Mac A)

Looked good.. Brighton getting another gem.

I should add, I'm a bit gutted we didn't try, could easily be the heir to Robertson if he continues to improve.

We would rather sign him for 10x that fee in a year or 2

I've mentioned this before but the issue we have with this kind of player is that if they're not obviously good enough to go straight into OUR first team (which I suspect this lad isn't) then we end up stifling their development (because we're not great at arranging suitable loans as most of our youth players could confirm and if they stay with us they don't play enough). And if they do go straight in (think Emiliano Insua, for example, who ended up playing more football than planned due to injuries) they end up getting exposed while they're still developing and possibly don't develop into the players they could have been.
Best of both worlds here would be to buy the lad and loan him to Brighton. Failing that then yeah, we'll pay top dollar if and when he's proved himself.
Obviously City and Chelsea are quite well established in buying younger players and loaning them out, but they're also not frightened to sell on players who don't fit but might turn out great (Palmer, de Bruyne, Sancho) and it's even part of their financial model to do that. We don't seem to be brave enough to do that, which makes us unattractive to potential signings - you either make it a Liverpool or you wash up at 24. Go to Chelsea or City and even if you don't make it there, you've still got a career pathway.

It's an enviable tactic, but we don't have the funds to miss on transfers, so never mind.

City can do it easily because of all the clubs they have within the City group. We really need to forge better relationships with other clubs abroad so we can afford a better pathway if we sign some of these upcoming youngsters

Agreed. We need some proper feeder club arrangements where the kids will get a genuine chance at a decent level. The fact we've recalled players in this window because they weren't getting enough football is damning about our loan management. And I know in some cases that's because the loan clubs thought they weren't good enough, but that's also on us. We shouldn't send them somewhere if we think they might be out of their depth.
Should also mention Awoniyi as one who we DID let go, but I think that was more because we couldn't get a work permit,

As @737Max says the wealthier ownership groups are building feeder club networks for exactly this purpose. Grab the talent, bring them to a lower echelon European club and test them out. Expectations are lower and they get time to bed into Europe and European football

It is supposed to be getting a little bit harder to do this now though.
FIFA have limited outward loans to 6 per season from next year (currently 7), but under 21 or club-trained don't count towards that limit. So you can still do it, but you'll be under more pressure to sell the kids once they hit 21, and if you've been loaning them out from their first pro contract at 17 then it will be harder to meet club-trained criteria.

Innacio or some pacey big dude like Q or Konate
Manu Kone cover for all midfield positions
Ollise for RW

The above plus what we already have is good enough for this season and next 2 seasons at least.

Fight off Bayern + offload Dier to them. Kinda double kill. 😛

Beat Bayern to a signing and sell them Dier instead - this is Ange masterclass! I guess he’s mates with Kane or something, that’s the only possible explanation why they are interested.

Spurs have signed Timo Werner. Nough said. The Romanian CB will be shit.

Bayern signing Dier can only be to keep Kane happy and have someone to talk to in the squad. If not they've completely lost it.

Liverpool in right-back recall talks amid Trent Alexander-Arnold injury
Liverpool are in talks with Preston North End over prematurely ending Calvin Ramsay‘s loan stint at the club.
The Scot moved to Deepdale on a season-long deal in August in a bid for regular minutes after enduring an injury-hit debut campaign at Anfield.
However, he has managed just two appearances as a result of further fitness problems.
And This Is Anfield understands that Liverpool are now ready to recall Ramsay as a result.
The Reds have made a habit of cancelling loans early when their young stars are struggling for game time.
Rhys Williams and Fabio Carvalho returned from planned season-long stays at Aberdeen and RB Leipzig this month after being underused.
Carvalho has already secured another move, joining Hull City until the end of the campaign, and it is hoped a similar deal can be struck for Williams.
Ramsay’s return has been linked to the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be sidelined by a knee injury sustained at Arsenal.

However, that blow is only expected to keep the club vice-captain out for around three weeks, while Conor Bradley is considered most likely to benefit from his absence.
As such, it remains possible that Ramsay heads out on a second loan should the right opportunity present itself.
It has been a busy start to the window for Liverpool’s loan pathways team, with Owen Beck and James Balagizi also recalled from Dundee and Wigan respectively.
Nat Phillips has also returned to Merseyside following the conclusion of a short-term loan at Celtic.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Pitaluga has joined Irish club St Patrick’s Athletic and Vitezslav Jaros will spend the remainder of the season with Sturm Graz in Austria.

I find it amazing that this thread has not had very few posts ? - can we start an FSGOUT campaign and make sure it trends high on X, that way John and his cronies will get their wallet's out. We are still running low on defensive cover, we should be signing a defender, I don't want it to be a summer signing when we need one now, and also I can't think of a more boring thing than signing a defender for your summer transfer window. Come on guys do something will ya ?

In the summer though

Oh f*ck right off, - Summer, I need a new toy this January not in the Summer. We are seriously going to spunk away another potential title if we don't sign a defender this window. Konate is going to get injured, Joe is going to get injured playing the entire back line, Q is only 20, and you know VVD is like 32. This is not good.

If United make a move in Jan, we might make a move in Jan. Is what it is

this is why we fuck up the league challenges, we are reactive to anyone who may touch our obtainable summer targets, but not pro-active enough to prepare for the worse situation this season which is another injury to one of (or two of) Gomez/Konate. This simply is not good enough, we know we are going to buy this January, why not just bring him in now.

Who is Nice's and United's co-owner? Nice can say noto LFC or just price us out!
The club will point to Nat now being available, and with Kostas, Robbo and Trent returning all at the same time. I am not saying they're right. ... but I really don't see us signing anyone.
