General thoughts on the Transfer Window

Big teams been covered fairly well so here are my thoughts on some of the other teams.

Southampton made a cracking signing in Lovern I think, for £8m that is great business. Not so sure about Wanyama for £12.5 though. Both bring champions league experience though and if they manage to get Osvaldo from Roma they can be more than happy with their summers work. With 2 good young full backs, and an already decent midfield, I really look forward to watching them this season.

Norwich also seem to have done some good business. Their defence needed strngthening and they brought in Javier Garrido and Martin Ollsson as full backs. While not top class, they have premiership experience and are a step up on what they had before. Nathan Redmond has been talked about as an exciting young talent on the wing, Leroy Fer looked excellent in the u21s also. Taking a bit of a gamble up front with 2 huge scorers from the Scottish and Dutch leagues. Could go either way those ones to be fair but I think Hughton has done a good job there this summer.

Fulham replaced Schwarzer nicely with Steklenberg and have brought in a few Fulham (average) players. They'll be fine in mid table mediocrity again.

Villa made a great signing in Okore who turned down I believe Chelsea to be guaranteed football. looked excellent in Champs league for a struggling team last season. I don't know much about the rest of their signings but surprised at how young they all are. Thought he would have added experience as it was painfully obvious that they missed that so much at times last season. That said, I think last years relegation battle will stand to them and I think Lambert is an excellent manager so they should avoid that relegation battle this time around.

No one has bought any world class players.

Expect England to fail miserably in the CL again this year.

The Revolution of Lowered Expectations is taking control.

If an English team gets past the quarter finals of the champions league I'd be very surprised

Really?

Chelsea and City have great teams on paper and Utd are always capable of swatting away the lesser teams.

I think competition is too great. Even the weaker teams are doing pretty well recently.

City have a weak mentality they need to shake off, and I'm still not convinced mourinho will do it in Europe for Chelsea.

They he'll smash the league though

Pellegrini took Villarreal to within a missed pen of the final and a cash strapped Malaga almost knocked Dortmund out in the quarters. I'll be quite surprised if City don't give a better account of themselves this season. And Chelsea are very strong and Mourinho knows what he's doing.

There are quite a few strong sides, true, but I wouldn't dismiss the English sides out of hand. They're potentially just as good as the rest bar perhaps the top two.

With villareal he cultivated that side and grew it into a beast, with rossi as his don up top

Malaga I'd agree he did well with

I'm just not convinced the balance in city's team is right.

Mourinho probably will make me look a tit and Chelsea will walk to the CL, but I'm not convinced still.

City have improved, chelsea have improved, spurs have improved. We've pretty much stayed the same, I think the arse are slightly weaker for losing some of their squad depth, and the scum have weakened considerably losing ferguson.
I think the key is going to be the next couple of weeks in the transfer window. IF spurs lose monkey boy and don't replace him adequately, and the arse and scum don't improve, and we keep suarez and he sorts his shit out, and maybe 1 or 2 good signings - It could be an all out battle for 3rd and 4th. I don't see anyone being favourites for those spots at the moment.

It would be fucking wonderful if the scum and arse finished 5th and 6th!!!!!

We've improved over last season, we now have Sturridge and Coutinho for the whole term, that can't be understated, and we've added a little bit of depth. However, we haven't improved enough, we need that Willian like signing, then it's a lot more interesting.

City will do well in the CL this year. Pellegrini is an excellent manager.
I'm a bit surprised that they havent bought a CB though, but that may still happen.

They've been linked with De Michelis today. It's looking unlikely that Pepe will move.

I read somewhere that Arsenal has shipped 20(!) players out and just signed one (and he was a freebie).

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, 31, could face up to six weeks on the sideline with a suspected torn thigh muscle.

Break out the cotton wool for Wilshere

Sounds like we are the worst out of the top 6 in this transfer window from all the experts here.

I say sack all our scouts and transfer committee members, recruit Levy and hire all their scouts.

I think the mid table sides have improved the most this offseason. I'm very intrigued with Sunderland and Swansea this season especially.

Que ? What are you smoking mate !

United - Fail - have done nothing of note.
Arsenal - Fail - have sold their squad players and done nothing to strengthen.
Spurs - B - have done well but will lose Bale and IMHO they are not covering that loss yet.
Liverpool - B - We have done well in removing dead wood and bringing in some good players, and with Ibe coming through and Sterling a year older we already look stronger to me, despite the loss of Carra. If we end up with Willian, Papa and Cissokho or Siqueira (all of whom we have strong links to), and keep Suarez, that would make this an A+ window.

City & Chelsea have cash to burn so any comparison with them is pointless and ridiculous.

United are so superior last season, they seem permanently stuck on the perch!
I give you Arsenal however.

Not smoking anything delusional mate! We have not made any progress this window and we are sunk without Suarez who is a goner to me.

Aspas > Downing
Alberto > Shelvey
Mignolet hopefully > Reina
Toure ≈ Carra

We did improve somewhat, but we need more.

Pluses

Downing sold
Sterling not on loan
Suarez and agger staying, we hope
Aspas looking good
One 30m attacking player on the cards

Negatives
Forking out 9m on a non priority position
No cb signing

That's my report card as well. We're that elusive '3 players' away from a confidently top 4 challenging side.

Toure is faster than Carra for sure, but might be a bit more prone to positional mistakes. We'll find out. He is a much bigger threat to score from corners for sure.

Mignolet is better than Reina imho. Still only 25 and will peak during the next few years.
Watching Reinas performances the last few season it was a position were we needed improvement.
