Who has strengthened? Who is weaker than last season? Is all the major business still to come, or is everything settled? Who's going to be signing of the season?

Goooooo

I think it's all on hold, see who blinks first. The usual.
I think United will seal a big deal or two before September.

City have so far done the best business. They've brought goals and pace to their squad.

i'm surprised by manure and chelski - as mentioned already they could do some massive deals, especially manure who will want to make sure moyes has all the backing he needs

City have bought well but it must be easy when you can add 90 million to a squad without selling.

It's been pretty boring on the whole. The major signings were known / completed relatively early and we've been wrapped up in the tedious Suarez affair. It's also becoming increasingly depressing watching the nouveau riche hoovering up talent for ridiculous prices whilst the rest of Europe scrounge for the leftovers.

As for things in the Premiershp, it's been oddly quiet. City fans are obviously going to be the happiest whilst Arsenal fans are probably the most fucked off. Is Wenger going to end up making some late Arteta-style compromises in the end? There are enough decent players available so I'm surprised at how inactive they've been regardless of the Suarez ridiculousness. Spurs have finally landed themselves a striker after seemingly spending years trying to get one and Paulinho is good so they look strong contenders for a CL place. Chelsea... weird. They could probably do with a defender and a midfielder so I'm surprised their main target was Rooney but they've got a good team and are strengthened considerably by Lukaku coming back. I'm guessing Utd will sign a midfielder.

I'm hoping that we will actually spend the 20-30M we've been threatening to all summer and beyond that I guess there will be a few notable transfers but it's hard to tell how much activity there will be - right now doesn't look like it'll be much unless Wenger goes nuts.

United - same
City - improved the squad and the manager a lot but some dodgy pre season results have me wondering
Chelsea - good signings but no massive names
Arse - lolacaust
Tottenham - improved a lot seemingly but losing Bale might cancel that out initially at least, they rely on him hugely
Us - not much of a movement since last season in overall quality

I've no idea what to make of Chelsea yet, last time Jose bought himself almost an entire team on top of a squad that had £200m spent on it. It's a tougher league too, I'm really interested in how they get on. I don't know what Arsenal are up to, I think Wenger is a good coach but is being a massive tight arse undermining their progress? or is there something else going on there preventing money being spent? I've no idea how we're going to get on, looks like more of the same but hopefully we start extremely well.

how have spurs managed to become "bigger" than us ? . Ok obviously they have been finishing 4th/5th over the last few seasons but that's not exactly amazing . Yet they seem to be able to attract players easier than we can . Is it just cause they are in london ?

We can attract the same type of players they're getting but they're probably willing to pay more than we currently are. We just seem to be on a tight budget.
Exhibit A, Sigurdsson.

which begs the question. Where do we go if this cost cutting and slow "youth" development plan doesn't work ? Everyone has this idea on how a club should be run , we all want the "dortmund" way ....but in the prem league it might be very hard to make that jump up without spending money. Anyway we'll see in about 3 yrs time.

We needed 2 quality players up front & we still waiting

This summer started off well, we concluded 4 deals quickly, got some youth players in and it looked like we were set for the start of the season.
I've been quite calm regarding this window but I have to admit that frustration is slowly creeping in.

West Brom and Norwich have done a good job.
Spurs have strengthened a lot, replacing Parker with Paulinho and bringing in Soldado in place of Adebayor. They also have Holtby who i think will come good this year.
Citeh obviously have signed some class attackers but I struggle to see how all 4 will be happy.
Chelsea have signed Mourinho.

United won the league by like 50 points, they dont need any signings.

Unless our major signings are to come, it's been a poor window for us. Chelsea, City and Spurs have had better ones.

It has to be some player, if we're gonna do better than City and Chelsea. I'm talking Messi-esque

My personal feeling is that in most positions (bar left back and def Mid) we now have a fair few options but i really do wonder on the quality level . I reckon Aspas might turn out to be quite useful but would we not have been a whole lot better off using the money from him and alberto to buy one player who we know will have a proper influence ? Time will tell .

I guess we're at a point where we have invested in players (allen , borini , henderson , alberto , apsas etc) and now have to see how they do . If they can do it then fine but my gut feeling is they'll fall short and we've missed out on players who could have made a difference . We needed to add top quality to the team , probably in all positions .

Spurs are clearly going all out for top 4, sadly I think they may well get it. We have looked long term and shaved bills, we will not get in. I really couldn't say what the fuck Man U and Chelsea, are up too but it may well be the case that they don't feel the need,to spend, urgently especially in such a crazy market. I would be concerned if I were an Arsenal fan and highly interested in the finances of City if I were UEFA....

OR I could all just explode in the next two weeks!

Exactly this. Shit better start happening soon.

No it's the 'London' factor. Don't underestimate it's popularity, especially with GFs/families.

I'm pretty disappointed with our activity so far. Out net spend is £0m! Not sure what Alberto brings to the side. Aspas seems an ok option OFF the bench. Toure replaces Carra and Mingolet replaces Pepe. We need a CB, Winger and Striker I believe. Don't hold much hope of us signing anyone else.

As for the others at the top;

Man Utd - not strengthened. Think they'll finish 3rd in a difficult year for Moyes.

Man City - strengthened well offensively, less do defensively. They'll do better this year but think they might come up short.

Chelsea - some decent young signings. With Jose back think they'll edge the title.

Spurs - if they keep Bale they do well next year. Very good striker in Soldado. Will finish 4th I think.

Arsenal - miserable transfer window thus far. Many disgruntled fans. Their first IX is decent but a few injuries and they'll be struggling. Finish 5th or perhaps 6th if we get our act together.

Chelsea and City look good and will finish 1st/2nd.
Navas, Schurrle and Jovetic are all excellent signings.

Utd need a midfielder and to solve the Rooney situation.
They've lost their best and most important asset though, Fergie.
Will be a difficult year for Moyes imho.

Arsenal have lost out on all their targets and must be extremely frustrated and desperate. For all the money available they seem awfully reluctant to spend them.
Need 3-4 quality first teamers to challenge for the title.

Spurs have signed well. Paulinho and Capoue are good, not to sure about Soldado. Paid to much and he might lack that extra yard of pace to succeed. Could be a Morientes mkII if things dont work out.
They're dependant on Bale if they're going to get top 4.
But I think he'll leave, and if he dont he wont be as good as last season.

We badly need 2 very good signings or this window has just been about replacing those who have left and not strenghtening.
Willian would be an excellent start.
If we can get 2 more quality signings we can challenge for 4th, if not we'll be sixth.

I agree with just about all of that.

I think Southampton and Swansea have made good signings. If we don't make any new signings, we'll be battling Everton and Swansea for the 6-8 spots.

This is where we need to add that extra quality to push our noses ahead of the rest and towards Europe. The likes of Norwich, Swansea, Southampton etc have improved (IMO) and that continues in making the league tougher, maybe not in terms of them challenging for Europe, but it means the majority of the league have strength enough to beat anyone on their day and give the big sides a tough game. That's where that extra 2 or 3 signings might make the difference for us.

Think there will be even more "surprising" results this season than the previous ones due to the fact that the teams on the lower half of the table have been spending a lot of money.
If one of the top teams have an off day they can easily get beat.

I'm half expecting a surprise on saturday already. Swansea will probably beat Utd...

Eriksen, lamela and alderwereild.... Whatevs

Ha.. get your drift.

Oh, Eriksen's apparently evil agent said last night that his client will only consider a move to a club that are competing for top honors in their respective league as well as playing in the Champions League, as that is what he's eventually leaving behind in Holland.

*climbs off the Eriksen bandwagon, one that I have so thoroughly crafted and honed, all sad and tearful*

I just want fucking SOMEONE now. We're not good enough across the park, yet 2/3 more signings will help that.

I really don't think it's coming though
