FSG need to back this manager

There's a lot to be impressed about Brendan Rodgers

He's played well against the big clubs so far

Hmm it depends on what exactly your definition of "played well" is . Ok some of the performances (Arse and City away , spurs home) weren't bad but the fact of the matter is our results against the teams who finished above us last season was - P 12 W 1 D 7 L 4 . So that's a whopping 10 points from 36 . That needs to be improved on this season . I have concerns it won't .

And as others have mentioned , his signings so far have been hit and miss . he's spent roughly 75m so far so it's not as if he's been given nothing at all . And has he spent wisely ? A big chunk of that sits on the bench and was the 25m this summer spent wisely ? Will Alberto , Aspas and Mingolet improve the team more than say keeping Reina and adding a proper , proper talent ? Well if we could attract one .

I long for the day when RedZeppelin posts and I can read it in a happy tone ... Then I know we'd have won the title for the 3rd year in a row (probably in two decades) and he'd be convinced that after doing it three times in a row, it's real and can be celebrated!

Thats slightly out of context, the money that was spent this summer has been generated by letting other players (on bigger wages) leave, so its not as if hes just bloating out the squad Rafa style. Hes lowering the wage bill, the average age and trying to improve the team simultaneously, thats a very difficult task. I expect us to sign at least 1 more before the window closes and then we will be able to judge the summers dealings a bit better but 2 games in and 2 wins with massive contributions from Mingolet and Toure would seem to be an early vindication.

So far this summer we have lowered the wage bill, spent no money, and improved the squad, we would all like a big name signing to come in and add an instant improvement to the first team but those players are difficult to source at the best of times, when we are operating on a reduced budget with no European football the task becomes that much harder simply because there are alot of other clubs who are a more attractive proposition for players.

Subs, Brad Jones, Aly Cissokho, Andre Wisdom. Luis Alberto. Joe Allen. Raheem Sterling, Fabio Borini

what does everyone think of that bench from last night?

It obviously isn't good enough. None of them would strengthen the team that was on the pitch.
Allen is on par with Henderson but that's about it.
We do have an ace up our sleeve and he'll be available next month but like many of us have said, we need another creative player.

He's shown some encouraging signs but there are also some lingering question marks.

He's got a lot to prove and I don't think we're anywhere near the point where he deserves anything or we should feel like we're lucky to have him.

I don't think Local was saying that and I don't get the skepticism for the sake to if, if the signs are encouraging he deserves indulgence and investment, no one's saying give him the keys to the city. There are question marks over most managers, Wenger has shied away from adding experience to his squad, Fergie never tackled trying to replace Keane (and fans HAVE moaned about it), and they had both won alot of trophies.

This is the best brand of football and group of players I remember us having in a long time, something we've seen all too fleetingly over the last two decades, when we're close like this, it's time to capitalise. And I don't buy tossing away £30m on a player for the sake of it, but he deserves to be able to say "I want player X" and for us to make a conscious effort to buy that player. I think it's difficult because we lack the attraction at the minute, so I do sympathise with FSG and Rodgers, but we need to push on now and try to go the extra yard. Whatever cynicism you want to express is neither here nor there, football is always a gamble, but like most my gut feeling is we have a talented lad on our hands and we should do what we can to help him - No one said we're lucky to have him, unless you're winning the league ASAP it's never really the case, he had and has it all to do, but that's a sign of where we're at, and he didn't put us there.

FSG have to back him. If you appoint someone who is relatively inexperienced and hasn't won anything, it's appalling if you don't back him. If all you wanted was a patsy who'll please the accountants, get a senior manager who's been there and done it and will take all the flak for a couple of years. Rodgers was left to the lions after the last summer transfer window and must have endured some hellish pressure all year. This time he must be supported. Be financially careful by all means but FSG really have to deliver the kind of players he wants, even if the first, second or third choices have gone.

If the bench consists of players that would strengthen what we have on the pitch, then it begs the question why are they not on the pitch in the first place
