I think we are going to see Trent become our best 6.

My hope is that our 'best' midfield three becomes Macca & Trent as the double 6 with Elliot or Szobo (based on form - so Elliot to start the season) ahead.

I feel like Bradley and Trent overlapping each other and cutting into the space with Salah could be a super interesting weapon

I dont think Slot starts his Liverpool tenure with moving Trent into midfield.
He also wants a specialist 6 to play in that double pivot next to Macca I would assume.
We also have Gravy, Jones, Morton, Baj, etc.

I’m more intrigued to see Trent in that attacking right back role in a new set up.

TAA couldn't cut it in CM at the championship level Euros.

If he hasn't worked that out after his summer adventures then we need someone to have a look at his head.

Who was he supposed to hit with Kane deep and Foden constantly cutting infield?
That team wasn’t set up for him at all.

That's the problem, he's a stationary figure in midfield. All he wants to do is look for a runner so he can hit a pass in behind the defence....that's legit all this dude will offer you, he's exceptional at it don't get me wrong but forget any cute give and goes or one two's, forget any kind of link/build up play besides me to you, forget offering himself as an option to make runs beyond the forward line (still remember Gini v Roma and how good he was that day). Forget any of that.

Yeah that's not true in fact it's miles off the truth.

My concerns with Trent in midfield don't stem from a perceived inability to play triangles or give and go, or burst through and beat a man - most of us have seen plenty of that, not least of when he played as a more traditional FB.
No for me it's the defensive side of a 6 (even a double pivot 6) to track runners and make critical interceptions or tackles. I've no concerns whatsoever regarding his offensive contribution or ability to play through a midfield.

My main concern with Trent in midfield is press-resistance. He just doesn’t have tbe body type where he can securely protect the ball, hold off opponents and ride challenges the way someone like Macca or Gravenberch can. I think this might the be limiting factor for him to “consign” him to full-back even though the rest of his midfield game is on point.

Trent needs to sign an extension or he needs to go before the season starts.

This season I would like to see Bradley given a good crack at the RB spot. If Trent isn't up to it because his head is still in midfield (where we are stacked and he is not very good at), then he needs to be dropped. Bradley had some great games in RB last season, he brings a whole new dimension to our game with his running. It's been awhile since I have seen Trent get to the byline.

If Trent inverts into midfield under Slot (and he will but not all the time), it’s not going to be deep so that he can ping long, direct passes to the forwards where he’s providing the ball before the assist - it’s going to be high up the pitch where he’s either providing the assist or scoring (or missing).

Watch Trent’s assists trend up again.

I think we are going to see Trent reverting to a more typical fullback where he will have more time to pick a killer pass like he used to. If he plays in midfield, I think it will be as an 8 on the right side, in the Beckham mold and only for certain games.

At least that is what I would like to see.

A random thought, granted, but I wonder if Slot might go left field and give Trent a run at the advanced midfielder / 10 role…just imagine him slotting killer balls through to a rampaging Darwin or pulling wide whilst Salah cuts in…

Not sure he has the close control foot work for the role, but maybe
