It comes around so fast, but we are already getting to that time of year when the transfer rumours start up, and Liverpool FC are seemingly linked with every player under the age of 30.

In amongst the gossip and the half-truths, though, there are some very interesting names cropping up. Christian Eriksen is one of those. I take a special interest in Eriksen, of course, being a Dane who is forging his career at Ajax. And if suggestions that he might be ready to make the same move I did all those years ago, and join Liverpool, are true, then I think the Reds would be getting a very good player.

Eriksen, at 21, is at the stage now where he needs to take the next step. Ajax is a great club for developing young players - the most prolific in Europe according to a new study - but you can’t stay there too long. Eriksen’s development has been sharp, and he is growing with every game he plays. Now, he needs to step up a level and test himself further. Whether that is at Liverpool remains to be seen.

I know Marc Overmars, Ajax’s technical director, admitted recently that scouts have been over to watch him regularly, but I’m sure a lot of clubs are monitoring the situation. What I would say is that Christian needs to play regularly. Maybe that would count in Liverpool’s favour slightly, that they can offer him, you would think, regular first-team football. He’s a classy player. An old-fashioned number 10 in many ways. He has two great feet, he sees passes and has added goals to his game in recent weeks. He has all of the tools in his locker to be a real top class player.

I’d love to see him at Liverpool, and he is exactly the type of player Liverpool should be looking at, but there will be some serious competition I am sure. Whatever happens, it promises to be an interesting summer. And Liverpool simply have to get their recruitment right.

He is good but when Ajax replace him with both Marco Van Ginkel and Adam Maher for less than we are likely to pay then we may regret it .

It depends.

If we make the CL next season then it'll have been worthwhile paying the premium for a player that is one or two seasons ahead in terms of his development.

If we don't and it goes down as another season of transition then yes, we will perhaps look back and think that we may as well have gotten a cheaper player, less experienced player.

I like Eriksen and while I dont think we will be signing him Id be interested as to where people think he would play for us and how we would have to alter the system to include him. From what Ive seen hes mainly played as an attacking mid through the centre.

While I suppose thats nominally Hendersons position and Eriksen is a much better player Henderson is really the only player in our midfield who plays with the energy to get from box to box with a bit of aggression and dropping him would leave our already porous midfield even more easily bypassed

Only way I would want him is if suarez did leave. Would play him further upfield like gerrard used to behind torres. Would put eriksen behind sturridge. But if suarez is here next season then it's pointless buying him as we have other priorities than another lightweight player.

In place of who?
We need a creative spark in our central midfield and few would fit that bill better than this lad.

Plenty room for him too as we've not got a readymade advanced playmaker in the squad imo.

................Henderson/New DM.............Gerrard/Allen...............
Downing/Suarez..................Eriksen/Suso.................Coutinho/Sterling
.............................Sturridge/Suarez/Ngoo....................................

Haha that's a good start that interview albeit a bit rash.

I like him, a ball-playing defender in the Agger/Vertonghen mould, more athletic build though.

Not quite their standards yet overall but in time could well be. Would have concerns over his positioning and the general lack of defensive work to do for a central defender in Ajax.

Not a beast in the air but a good header. A good athlete allround and a proper footballer.

He's very good in the air imho and a very physical player. Add some excellent ball playing skills and the potential is excellent. I rate him in the same league as Verthongen.

Which would have made us even more lightweight, plus take out the one guy in midfield that can get up and down the pitch.

I think it would have won us the game, also I think you're underestimating just how good Eriksen is.

Eriksen was good today BTW . Boss goal .
Personally very impressed by Schöne this Season as well. Looks more and more like the type of player we want Allen to be in our team I reckon.

Hard working, industrious, spraying lots of good passes and scores goals too.

What's your take on him mate?

PS Don't think he's one for Liverpool mind, Allen's got greater potential I believe so no need to swap there.

Thats kind of how I see it, if he is going to come here I think he will be replacing Suarez. Unless we are planning to completely rebuild our midfield which strikes me as pretty unlikely

Maybe you guys are right but imo Eriksen and Suarez as types of footballers are taylor-made to play in the same team. It's not one or the other, for me at least.
