BBC sports news correspondent Dan Roan: "People close to Theo Walcott are in shock. He was so excited about the prospect of going to South Africa."

lol

Carrick in too

That's a fucking joke

From OliverKayTimes on Twitter: "Now there's a rumour (UNCONFIRMED for now) of Ledley King OUT and Michael Dawson IN."

Hmmm. Dawson's had a good season. So has King, though.

Although Ledley was diabolical in that Mexico game. And is a crock.

Walcott, Bent, Baines, Johnson, Parker, Upson, Huddlestone all out apparantly.
Not suprised swp got in, he had a very good cameo against japan in comparison with Walcott who played poorly in both games. Happy about Warnock getting in, but Carrick and Heskey.....hmmmm.

We should be taking Parker over Carrick.

He's a better replacement for Barry.

We need a bit of 'bite'.

Carrick's had a shit season and has looked shit in the friendlies. It's a a joke that England haven't got better options.

But he's getting the nod over Parker because Parker doesn't play as a holding midfielder, and Carrick (sort of) does. Plus he's more experienced.

The seven England players to miss out on a World Cup place are: Leighton Baines, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker, Adam Johnson, Theo Walcott, Darren Bent.

Agree with dropping Baines, Huddlestone, Walcott and Bent. Would have taken the others and dropped SWP, Carrick and Upson instead.

I take Brendan's point about the Carrick/Parker thing, but (as Brendan says) Carrick himself isn't a pukka holding mid.and I don't think Parker's normal game would actually have required much - if any - more modification than Carrick's to slot into Capello's usual style. My guess is it's a decision based more on perceived ability than on playing style, i.e.he thinks even Parker's best won't quite be good enough, whereas Carrick's will be if we can get it out of him. If that's right, I'm not sure I agree, but who am I to take issue with a winner like Capello?

Here's hoping.

Interesting.

Warnock over Baines? Capello must be praying to whatever God he idolises that Ashley Cole doesn't get injured. I wouldn't be surprised to see Carra fill in at left-back ahead of Warnock if that happened anyway.

SWP over Walcott? The little Gary Coleman has done ok as an impact sub recently for England, has linked well with Crouch, and his delivery/final ball is better than Walcott's. S'pose that got him the nod.

Carrick? Well he wasn't going to take Huddlestone, so it was between him and Parker. Parker's contribution to England was a fucking diabolical game away to Croatia a few years back, and thats been held against him somewhat. Carrick, wehn on form is a better player, and even when off-form is better at keeping the ball and distributing it. That's why he's in.

Bent? Tough to score 25 goals and not get in, but he's always behind Rooney and Defoe, and he was always going to take Heskey and Crouch.

Apparently Leighton Baines had grown seriously homesick whilst away for 2 WHOLE WEEKS at a training camp, so doubts surfaced at his ability to cope for a month away in South Africa.

What a fucking gimp.

Yeah I think with Gary Coleman biting the dust this week Fabios sentimental side got the best of him. Get in the car Shaun.

Don't think there can be too many complaints over the squad. Everyone has their opinions of Heskey, he summed it up against Japan, good and bad, but he's been pivotal to Rooney's goalscoring form. As for Parker, it was mentioned he's played for England three times and lost each game, that said I prefer him to Carrick, who's had a poor season, but I guess Parker was seen as too similar to what we already have (but better) in Gerrard. Carrick will be there for a bit of composure in the middle if needed and as cover for Barry.

Walcott has had a shit season and has been shit for England since that hattrick. Some prick was on 5live yesterday banging on about his run for the goal against us in the Champions League at Anfield. And? SWP is equally inept but at least has shown he's wanted it that bit more.

why is he pivotal to rooney's form, hasn't rooney just won the golden boot (or come runner up) playing most of united goals as the lone front man?

In a completely, irrelevant system, yeah Neil. We don't play around one player, we play the best system for the team, and in the build up that's been the best system.

such a wonderful advertisment for english football, our best system; hoof it up to the big guy so he can batter a path to goal and knock it down for the small guy to finish. hey, wasn't that liverpool's tactic for years?

First you're talking about us setting up to stop the USA and now this? Are you sure you're not still in Liverpool/anti-Benitez mode?

Just because Heskey plays it doesn't automatically mean that's the tactic.

I'm chuffed that Carra made the cut. I hope he gets game time.

Me too mate, it's about time someone acknowledged and rewarded him properly at International Level.

if heskey plays, that will be the tactic. heskey is too tempting an option for the defenders to ignore.

I'm surprised with carra in the squad 'fab' didn't lose another defender and go with another midfielder as carra can cover a variety of defensive positions.
