Dominic Solanke being signed for £3M

So we've signed a player before the window actually opens AND no one saw this coming AND we've seemingly wrapped it up in a day?

That's just ended about 30 summer thread ideas on here.

Yes, it's amazing that such a huge, high-profile and complex transfer was completed so quickly and in total secrecy.

Mind you, we have been linked with Solanke for a while, and also nobody fucking cares

That might explain how this went 'under the radar'

I don't see it that way. His £50k a week demands had to be retracted by the telegraph with an apology written because it was completely untrue. If you consider a £32m striker at Chelsea got about 5 minutes of playing time this year and then add to that Chelseas record of developing youth talent then he is completely right to leave for his development, IMO. The mistake he made was signing them in the first place.
True, though he's been with them from the age of 6, so the lad was institutionalised. Not like Studge who wasn't playing for City then signed for Chelsea.

On the same morning in which I read that we are signing Solanke, which I suspect is possibly because after the Stoke incident we can no longer sign youth players for 2 years, I read that United are favourites to sign Griezman if they match his 100M euros transfer clause...

I wonder why we don't just try and sign Griezman ourselves, we really need a star player and we play much nicer footy than United and are not managed by an uber cunt.

Although it is true that I am biased as fuck it is also true that we are considerably better than United and have a nicer bloke managing the team. If I was Griezman I would rather sign for LFC than Manure. Regardless, It would be nice to read about us at least trying to buy an expensive player rather than just moneyball stuff like Solanke.

Throw in the fact as a giddy 16 year old he was probably told by whoever was manager (probably Maureen), that he was the future of the club. Its not hard to see why as a 16 year old you'd sign your life away. I would have.

No real down side but I'll hold my excitement,
Origi was gonna be a world beater and is shite
Woodburn has done little to impress so far with loads of chsnces
Woodburn is 17 yrs old FFS and scored on his debut. Your 'loads of chances' equates to 94 mins, for the first team, in the PL.

FFS. We are not going to pay 100M and are not going to pay between £200k and £300k per week in wages.

Some decent skill and link up play. Cunt approach to the penalty mind.

He looked pretty strong on that video with good awareness, more like a centre forward with some pace and movement about him. He pressed well through most of that too, which is great for us, but he seemed to drop into the pockets all the time, rather than playing on the shoulder, he was the one who was the pivot in attack, allowing everyone else to overlap him as he held the ball up to wait for runners. Some neat touches and has an eye for a pass, it doesn't really tell us much about his finishing ability though.

You can see from that clip why Klopp would like him - he's that sort of striker who drifts wide and drops deep rather than stay central, in line with what's described in the article below when he was linked with Celtic:

[article]He’s more of a drifter than Dembele

Highlighted by some of Scottish football’s analytical observers earlier this season was Moussa Dembele’s tendency to stay between the width of the posts. Quite simply, if you’re in these areas, then it becomes easier to score. Solanke, in contrast, is happier to drift into wide areas or even drop deep. He started his career as Chelsea’s youth system as a No.10 and has played on the wings. Although he doesn’t have the vision to thrive in the roles down south, he should still be devastating from those areas in Scottish football. Therefore, don’t read too much into how Celtic’s interest relates to Dembele’s future. The two could just as easily play in the same team.[/article]
I think it was Ryan who first used the phrase "playing within the width of the posts" in SCM to describe Benteke and why he didn't fit into Klopp's system.

He looked promising. Several good touches as well as the goal.

Ejaria shows no signs of growing out of his doziness - he passed to an opponent in the centre circle and it almost led to an equaliser. He's a good player when he concentrates but he needs to do it for 90 minutes.

He looks A LOT more promising than a £3M player. Great athleticism and decent technique.

Meanwhile, this is his peer, Tammy Abraham, another Chelsea U23 player, who went on loan to Bristol City last season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions (23 in the Championship). Supposed to be going on loan to Brighton or Newcastle this coming season.

I was impressed by that goal-scoring record so I decided to take a look and see what he was like. I don't think I've ever seen a player score so many tap-ins and ugly, scrappy goals in a season.

edit: He's in the England U21 squad for the European championships coming up.

Chelsea fans rate him higher than Solanke. However both were good when playing a full season (almost same ages) so Solanke's banishment last season hurt his progression. Abraham to Newcastle on loan is a done deal it seems.

Don't know where you took that information from, everything I'd read + speaking to Chelsea fans, they've always rated Solanke higher than Abraham. It was only last season where Abraham went on loan to Bristol City and Solanke stayed to rot on the Bench for not signing a new contract, that the Chelsea fans started to think Abraham was the better prospect.

However, as others pointed out up thread, take what what Chelsea fans think with a pinch of salt, they also raved about Borini.

Yeah. This.

I think Abraham is goal hanger/poacher. A bit of a Pippo Inzaghi. Most of his goals were predatory strikes in the 6 yard box. Nothing wrong with that, but not what we need.

Solanke is a better all round player, by all accounts. More in the Diego Costa mould in that he can play AM as well as CF (as Diego did at A.Madrid).

Fox in the box strikers are really rare these days, they guarantee you goals but not much else. If you can get balls in the 6 yard box they'll will put them away.

There are at least 6, very serious, match-going, Chelsea fans on Red Cafe. Guys that can talk in depth about their youngsters. They have not always rated Solanke higher and I think (without checking) that Abraham has always outscored Solanke but I might be wrong on that as Solanke banged in a shit-load when he was 17. Also let's be clear, they all rate Solanke too and think we've got a steal.

I think that's your problem, going on a Man Utd website, looking for Chelsea fans.

In all seriousness, I talked to actual Chelsea fans, face to face, because I live near London.

For the record though.

Chelsea U18 to U21s
TA - Played 101 scored 72
DS - Played 83 scored 65
