Chelsea turned down the chance to sign Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe as a 14-year-old for just £17,000, according to reports.
The teenager allegedly visited Stamford Bridge four years ago but the club weren't interested, turning their focus to local academy prospects Dominic Solanke and Tammy Abraham instead.

Add Wenger to that too by all accounts

Blimey, from rumour to official confirmation in the same day! We're flying!

Liverpool FC have agreed personal terms with Dominic Solanke to sign the England youth international this summer.

The 19-year-old striker will complete the transfer to the Reds on July 1, 2017, upon the expiry of his contract with his current club, Chelsea.

Solanke made his senior debut for the London side as a substitute in a Champions League tie in October 2014, and scored seven goals in 25 Eredivisie appearances during a productive loan spell with Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem in 2015-16.

He has represented his country at every age level from U16 to U21 and is currently in South Korea for the FIFA U20 World Cup, where the forward has so far featured in all three games and scored once to help England into the knockout stages.

Solanke, twice an FA Youth Cup champion and winner of the UEFA Youth League and U17 European Championship, will officially join Jürgen Klopp’s squad on July 1.‎

Liverpool fans need to stop being so wanky about Solanke.

That is Paul Tomkins latest headline. I can only imagine he's given up trying to be a respected journalist by this point.
Being lectured by Tomkins is sure to bring the doubters round.

Who is Michael Beale?

Ians brother?
Don't do that to him. He has been through enough already. A mum who pretended to be dead for 20 years. An ex-step father who hates him. An estrange wife who tried to kill him and decades later her son kidnapped him and tried to do the same. A murdered daughter.A psychotic son who who is in jail for murdering his Lucy and leaving his step mother a cripple. Now he has biggest obstacle, weight issues which is tearing him apart.

Not yet. He offers half an article for free. You've got to pay for the rest. Its all a bit gold clubby. Next he'll be offering iPods.

Solanke's actually done Chelsea a little solid here by not going overseas instead. Chelsea would've received but a pittance in compensation instead in that scenario, like what happened to us when Rossiter moved to Rangers.

I can hear Abramovich now - "Thank fuck for that, losing out on that $3M would have been the straw that broke the camels back and bankrupted us"

So we've signed a player before the window actually opens AND no one saw this coming AND we've seemingly wrapped it up in a day?

That's just ended about 30 summer thread ideas on here.

One of the top young English coaches who now works in Brazil.

Used to work for us and Chelsea as a youth team manager when Brendan/Maureen/AVB and the like were there.

If he says the kids a top talent, I'm a little bit more relaxed that he won't be crap.

Just looking at the kids highlights, I'm quite impressed actually at:

  • His vision
  • His off the ball penetrating runs
  • His anticipation (he has a picture in his head before the ball arrives).
  • His willingness to use both feet when dribbling
It does look like he needs to work on his dribbling a bit and certainly his finishing. No doubt, being a young player he'll also need to develop his decision making. But I like the raw materials there, especially the movement/anticipation (something Origi seems to lack - more reactive than proactive).

I'm surprised people are surprised we've signed him.

This was mooted months ago so it's nothing new

No real down side but I'll hold my excitement,
Origi was gonna be a world beater and is shite
Woodburn has done little to impress so far with loads of chsnces

Where was he playing season just gone?
My understanding is Chelsea refused to loan him out because of his contract situation. I don't think he featured a lot for their youth team this year either so by all accounts he's stalled over the last 12 months.

Tells you something about a person who is willing to miss a year of footy at 19 because of his contract situation.

I don't see it that way. His £50k a week demands had to be retracted by the telegraph with an apology written because it was completely untrue. If you consider a £32m striker at Chelsea got about 5 minutes of playing time this year and then add to that Chelseas record of developing youth talent then he is completely right to leave for his development, IMO. The mistake he made was signing them in the first place.
