Deadwood

Not open for further replies.
Clearing out the deadwood has put us in the position that we have now. Great team, but a crap squad.
The deadwood has been winkled out over the last few years, something we have all gone along with, but what has been brought in is worse, in fact much of it has not been replaced but overseas teenagers, have been brought in who are either not up to it, or never given a chance.
The writing was on the wall that predicted matters in the first game of the season: Spurs had a far better bench than us.

I'd sell Skrtel and buy a centre back who is good in the air. We should've really bought Turner.
Sod that, i'd rather keep skittles thank you very much. Although he's been poor this season, he's a far better player than Turner.

Kjaer would be brilliant to have but it's just not that simple.

He would've demanded a fee of at least £9M and that would've looked rather bold having Carra, Agger and Skrtl in the squad already.

Oh the wonderful wisdom of hindsight....

That said having wathced Kjaer more frequently over the past 1½ years he certainly has impressed me. He's got the exact right mindset it seems to become a world class defender to me.

Add to this his brilliant physique, good skills on the ball and young age and you've got a player who won't come any cheaper than £15M I'm affraid.

the future isn't an agger skertel partnership. in an ideal world we'd keep skertel and have quality squad depth. unfortunately we don't have that luxury so i see skertel as the pawn we sacrifice for a better player to form a partnership with agger. we should get 7 or 8 million for skertel.

we also need to change our formation to accommodate the better players that we want to attract. 433 or 4132 - we should just play this for the rest of the season.

as for the deadwood that needs to be sold, i immediately think of - reserve keeper, doseena, babel, el zahr, plesis, voronin and average lucas whilst not deadwood will never be good enough. we would raise close to 20 million from these and more importantly make space in the squad for players like nemeth, pistachio and kelly come through

There are bargains out there, but it really depends on whether we can afford the wages and the players would be willing to fit into our 'squad'.

Say what you will about VDV, but that sort of talent normally costs a lot of money and if we can get a bargain there, we should be all over it.

Pandev on a free would be an immediate improvement on Voronin.

My only real concern throughout this is that Rafa has not given the kids more of a chance during this injury crisis. I mean they may not change things, but they can't be any worse than some of the clown we currently field, and would gain some great experience.
I think Spearing proved that theory false in the Sunderland game.

Having said that, I'd much rather see Pacheco on the pitch than Voronin.

Ive never seen this Kjaer play. Is he brilliant in the air?
That's probably one of his main attributes.

Towering 1.90 cm (6ft 3inches) as well as beeing quite strong overall helps in that department, but he has got quite a talent for standing in the right spot too.

As said he'd be very expensive though so I find it hard to believe that we're still interested really.

NB Rumours are circulating today that Slur Alex apparently has tapped him up. The player himself - a sworn Liverpool-fan - has denied those claims however.

I reads somewhere that Fergie had arranged to sit beside him at some awards ceremony recently

From what ive heard it looks like Man Utd will probably be in for him, never realised he was a sworn Liverpool fan though. Maybe we will get the investment and can make a bid.

You mean sworn like Theo Walcott and Lucas Neill?

I think these players are not up to it and dont let the door hit your asre on the way out!...

Voronin
Dossena
Lucas
Aurelio
Babel
Degen
Pleiss
El Zhar

And that we are probably 4 players short in the shape of a CF, Winger, LB and a CM for a fully functioning squad.

So - Do you think we need a massive clear out and complete over haul of the squad, or is it just a case of bad luck with too many 1st teamers injured and under performing?
Disagree with a lot of what you say here. I think there's been some bad luck and poor form and a bad set of injuries this year. Of the players you say are not good enough:
Voronin - did great in Germany last year, important goalscorer for a team which almost won the league. Just doesn't really fit into our formation.
Dossena - probably not suited to the English league - so few Italian players have done well here.
Lucas - seems to be finding his feet and making more of a contribution. I think he's a very good young player who could thrive in the coming years - but may not as he is weighed down by negative attitudes.
Aurelio - class player. Only issue is his tendency to get hurt.
Babel - waste of a potentially excellent player.
Degen - has only enhanced his reputation this season - two whole games without injury at one stage. And has looked decent.
Plessis - talent is there, will likely never thrive at Anfield though.
El Zhar - so long since he's been in the first team set-up its hard to comment.

Being kind - exceptionally fucking kind - you are being rather rose-tinted about some of the useless cunts on that list.

That must've been the Danish Football Award Show 2009 then - I didn't see it myself but I know Ferguson was attending as he should hand over some Hall of Fame prize to Schmeichel.

Heh... hope not.

He has said himself on several occasions that Liverpool is the club of his dreams, as every member of his family himself included has always been cheering for the Reds.

I think he'd prefer us to United every day to be honest, all we have to do is put in a serious bid. And therein lies the real challenge.

Valuations:

Babel: £5M
El Zhar £1M
Dossena £3M
Insua £3M
Voronin £3M
Plessis - Free
Degen - Free

And we'll only manage to shift half of them if we're lucky.
Why do we need to sell our best left fullback for?? And keep fucking Aurelio? ? Idiot!
The worst thing is, you're probably talking about Dossena.

£12-15M I would think.

There is a buy-out clause in his contract at the moment at £9M but Palermo are trying to renew his contract and increase that rather hefty. And it's not valid in the January-window anyways.
