He's not "starting" for us though is he, he's back up.

He clearly has been starting for us though. Whether he's back up or not...he looks clumsy, weak in the ball tackle, positionally poor and average at best on the ball.

Agger has played well against Drogba and other tough opponents. I think Skrtel's exceptional performance that time has maybe clouded that.

I'm not really that fussed who plays though I noted my preference at this time earlier I think. If the midfield play as they normally do, Everton will get a few good chances to score as most opponents have this season.

I'm not saying agger falls to pieces against a big fella. He just isn't as good as handling them as Skrtel.

Our form cbs presently are Skrtel and Sakho.

I'd persist for this game.

And Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to hand 20-year-old defenderJon Flanagan his Merseyside derby debut against Everton at Goodison, theLiverpool Echo reports.
Flanagan has made just one league appearance this season but is set to start after Jose Enrique was ruled out with a knee injury that will require surgery.
Rodgers says: "Jon is a young player who will never let you down. Of course it's disappointing if you lose your No 1 left-back for a few months but it's an opportunity for someone else to come in and do well."

You'd "persist"? That confuses me.

Skrtel and Sakho have played ONE game together as a pairing ever and that was against Swansea, where we were more or less all over the floor for the last 45 minutes.

Skrtel and Agger have kept two clean-sheets already against United and Fulham and Agger has also kept two clean-sheets playing alongside Toure.

You'd pick the out-of-form pairing is what you meant to say mate. Fair does. I wouldn't and I'd be well surprised if Rodgers went for that solution.

Sakho is defo gonna start. From what Rodgers is saying i guess it'd be something like this

Mig
Glen Skrtel Sakho Flan
Hendo Stevie Lucas Phil
Stugs Suarez

DO NOT WANT FLANAGAN STARTING FOR US.

The fact he is a local lad could benefit him, always seems to come in handy in these encounters I just don't think he offers enough in either defense or attack.

On the pitch as a whole if you like.

Only way I think Sakho will get to start if we go back to a 3-5-2 which I really hope we doesn't.

*I am probably wrong seeing how many on here thinking it's going to be Skrtel and Sakho together. Not confident about that pairing to be honest, lacks balance and composure imo, but we'll see.

Would there ever be a situation, apart from injury, when you wouldn't want Agger to play ?

If Lukaku wasn't playing i'd play Agger. It's just that Sakho is better than either Skrtel or Agger at this and Skrtel is in better form. And right footed

He is one of our finest players and he should play when fit. If he is playing poorly over a long haul he would of course be under pressure as anyone else would but he is one of our most important players imo alongside Gerrard, Suarez, Johnson and Coutinho.

I think all this chopping and changing posters are suggesting because of a 20-year-old opponent is pretty weird. Skrtel and Agger looked very assured against Fulham and as the Vice Captain gives us composure and a better balance at the back he should be a definite starter.

It's not the age thong.

It's cos that partnership always has issues against a big man who's good in the air. And every time we don't deal with it, the result affects us.

I agree Sakho looks better build to get physical with a strong forward but you can defend against the Lukaku's of this world without having to wrestle them.

Balance, awareness and positioning are key factors. I have not seen enough of Skrtel/Sakho to know whether they'd be a balanced unit but I know from their games together this Season that Skrtel/Agger has looked rather composed.

Agger and Toure kept Benteke quiet didn't they? And I mean despite Sakho we still conceded two against Swansea. He may win an important header against Lukaku that none of the others would but he also might stray out of position and let Mirallas or someone else cut inside him. Giving Lukaku too much focus could just as well harm us elsewhere.

I am now going to anticipate Rodgers' choice even more. I am not saying I've got it right, obviously I don't know that, I'd just be pretty surprised if we saw Sakho being brought back in on behalf of our VC.

PS Remember that game all to well. Even called it Agger's worst performance in a Liverpool-shirt afterwards. A lot was wrong with the team that day and to me it looks like the Skrtel/Agger pairing has come a long way since.

I'm an Agger fan (hence the avatar!) but I would prefer to see Sakho in there, especially as Baines will be throwing in crosses/ set pieces and Sakho is a monster in the air. I'd play Skrtel with him as he has IMO been our best CB this season.

Agger will get his chance, but this is unlikely to be it.

Skrtel is in form

Sakho just played a blinder

One is right footed, the other is left

Sakho is a powerhouse

Skrtel is strong

The only time they'd played together was a few months ago on Sakho debut.

Should we never play them together Kris, because of that 1 game?
