While a player gives his all and shows he cares I'm happy for him to be captain

I couldn't give a toss what he's said

Should gerrard have been stripped of it when he flirted with chelsea?

Or carra when he said he's move on of he didn't get regular games

if we base it entirely on players who never mentioned any other club, we'dbe down to skrtel, lucas and kuyt

We'll never know how close Stevie came to losing the job that time. He himself was obv.thinking along those lines as he offered to stand down. I've heard it said that it was that offer which actually saved the job for him.

And ManUre aren't just "any other club". Pepe's OK as stand-in but I would not want to see him formally made club captain.

And neither are Chelsea just "another club". See Fernando Torres for details...

I'm sorry, any player actively looking to leave the club is a kick in the teeth. People go on about liverpool being a great club and blah blah blah , but loyalty is only as strong as the contract the player is on.

Its few and far between now where loyalty is the main factor.

Gerrard wanted away and then decided to sign a new contract worth fuck tons. I couldn't give a toss if a player wants to leave,.especially if its not their home town club. We should enjoy them while they're here, not complain that they want to move on.

Just generally "wanting to move on" is not the issue. Publicly making eyes at our deadly rivals while still under contract to us is the issue.

give it pepe, captains tend not to leave their clubs...

except, vieira and henry, and fab...
have arsenal given the armband to RVP? I'm sensing a trend here.

I don't see Adam as a natural leader to be honest. I'd actually like to see Lucas get the nod.

I can't believe I just said that but there you are.

Interesting. Of the two I see more leadership potential in Adam, some of whose interviews since we signed him have impressed me, though Lucas does have experience of skippering the Brazil U-21s or whatever age group it was.

Here's an admittedly risky suggestion, perhaps to tide us over until a longer-term successor emerges - Craig Bellamy, who's done well as captain of Wales. Some will object that he's not an automatic choice, to which my reply would be that - at the moment at any rate - he should be.

Surely the reason we are discussing this is because Gerrard (first name on the team sheet if fit) and Carragher look like they won't be playing that much of a role with us anymore.

So why on earth are people suggesting the captain of the club should be:
Craig Bellamy - a player who has rarely started
Dan Agger - a player that rarely goes 8 games without an injury
Lucas - a player that is currently crocked and we have no idea how well he will come back?

Yeah, yeah they captain their countries but so fucking what?

The captain MUST be a starter when fit and fit for most of the season surely...?

Good shout with Bellers (Judge) and Agger (Rosco).

I think the captaincy suits Bellers -

Are you feeling alright?

I think so ... a bit tired, but a-ok. Yerself? 😉

Er, you must have missed the bits where I said (a) Bellamy should be a starter and (b) he'd be a temporary appointment anyway until the right candidate emerges. Your alternative is who BTW?

I actually like Reina as captain, but I also think that Chaz Adam would be the type of player to elevate his game if he were to be given the armband. I don't know why but I think he would be massively and rightly proud of that achievement and it would reflect in his infield attitude.

Johnson perhaps?

You taking the piss ?

Interesting fact on Magic:

Liverpool have conceded half as many goals per game when he has started in the Premier League this season (0.57) as when he hasn't (1.13).
Coincides directly with Carra getting hurt. I know which one I attribute it to.

Adam is the captain for me.

Lol Wiz, Bellers as captain? I had to check if you were okay?!
I like him ... and he has the passion and understanding to lead the team - his handling of Dempsey was captain'esque.

I said reina earlier in the thread.
And u missed where I challenged Agger and Lucas.

It should be Charles Adam in my opinion.
He looks a born leader to me. He speaks well, he drives the team forward.
Yup.

I'd give it to Carroll. He might shine with a bit of pressure on him.
