It's been done before, but now with Carragher unable to get into the side and the longevity of Gerrard's career in doubt, now is surely the time to be revisiting the subject.

Three questions:

Who should it be?
Why?
How important is the captain role today?

Is Reina not doing a decent job ? He's one of the most senior players we have , very charismatic with good leadership skills . I wouldn't be in any hurry to change from him really.

Some will use the "the captain should be an outfield player" argument but that's shite , it makes no real difference at all especially if there are other leaders on the pitch . It might make a difference if the captain role
was like in rugby where the ref talks and listens to the captain but it isn't sadly .
Guess that answers question 3 also , the role isn't really that important in football as the captain has no real influence or voice during the game . If you've a few decent leaders on the pitch , some senior players motivating the younger , keeping heads up then a single captain isn't really needed .

Actually nowadays the captain's role is probably more important in regards to all the off field stuff , helping new players settle , helping the younger players , being a bridge between players and coaching staff etc etc

Dirk deserves it more than anyone.

He's not an automatic starter any more though.

If he continues to play the way he has been I would give it to Charlie Adam. Especially over Christmas as a reward for the way he has settled in and played. OK there are more senior players but I reckon he would make a good leader.

Although to be honest I don't think there is much point to having a captain!

The choices for me have to be Reina or Agger. Lucas has an outside chance for me too, well maybe next season anyway. Adam seems like good captain material too.

Reina, Agger, Adam. If Luis didnt get himself in some much trouble and spoke a bit better English then he could be one of the candidates aswell.

Off the pitch, I'd like Reina and Kuyt as captains.
On it though, Agger is my top choice if he can stay fit. Adam, if he can maintain his good form, could be another option (probably starting as the vice captain).

Interesting fact on Magic:

Liverpool have conceded half as many goals per game when he has started in the Premier League this season (0.57) as when he hasn't (1.13).

Little bit yeah. But having said that a bit of responsibility might make him less of a twat

Reina
Agger
Suarez

Kuyt would be a good shout but I can't see him as a long term starter anymore.

Lucas is another but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Yes he's had a splendid Season untill his unlucky injury but he still needs to prove he can maintain that level on a more regular basis imo, to be in contention for the captaincy.

I wouldn't mind to see whether Adam has got it in him but it's still early days with regards to him.

The captain is supposed to be the one player to talk to the ref when a controversial incident occurs, which is not really practical when the captain's a keeper. I'd prefer an outfield player. Lucas is crocked, Kuyt's in and out of the side, Agger isn't likely to stay fit, Suarez is too undisciplined to be much use, so at the moment that leaves Adam.

How the fuck can you possibly include the above clause whilst suggesting someone who cant stay fit more than six-months at a time?

Lucas would be way ahead of Agger in the captaincy stakes purely due to the fact that Lucas, bar serious injury, will play the lions share of the matches in any given season.

Agger is captain at Int. level. He's second in the pecking order today when Gerrard and Carra is out I'm positive. Always standing as number two behind Reina when we're entering the field. Lucas has had a decent last Season and started very well in this one but is now out untill the next. Hardly Cpt. material eh?

Agger is perhaps not the most natural of leaders but his sheer will to win and rank inside the club would make him the best choice imo. He's always getting himself stuck in whenever a teammate's in trouble, he's is rather vocal and he loves the club. He gave Lucas a mouthing over his positioning against Citeh at one point which clearly underlines who's the 'captain' out of the two.

I know he's got a bad history with injuries and perhaps he'll be out again soon, but I believe he's the second most obvious choice in the squad apart from the two Liverpudlians.

It's got to be Reina, great leader on the field, seems to get on with everyone and be a laugh off of it.

Yea, I mean of course it should be Reina. It should be someone who talks to the press about joining Man Utd or Arsenal when things aren't going well. That's the kind of leader we need. Maybe we can get Mascher or Torres back to be captains too.

Muppets.

Well Kenny seems to think he's ok and I'd prefer to trust his judgment.

While a player gives his all and shows he cares I'm happy for him to be captain

I couldn't give a toss what he's said

Should gerrard have been stripped of it when he flirted with chelsea?

Or carra when he said he's move on of he didn't get regular games

if we base it entirely on players who never mentioned any other club, we'dbe down to skrtel, lucas and kuyt
