Big Andy

It will take more than coaching to get Andy Carroll to perform.
Something like Tinkerbells pixie dust is more likely.

Imho he's actually gotten worse by going to West Ham, it hasnt helped him at all.
Certainly. When he left us he'd just made a decisive contribution in an FA Cup semi-final, almost turned the final itself on its head, won plaudits for his play in beating Chelsea in the league and was starting to look like the player we had been expecting.
He's not done much at West Ham, granted, and hasn't done himself many favours off the field, but I was disappointed how many negative opinions resurfaced in the summer when it became obvious Rodgers was looking to offload. He's not a 35m player, OK - but Carroll can be a very good player for someone.

West Ham put in the highest amount of crosses per game and Andy Carroll wins the most headers per game - he is made for Allardyce.

Liverpool have the 6th lowest. Their is a greater chance of losing the ball when playing it to a players head which is not something Rodgers advocates.

I just dont see him coming back.

Rubbish. He's an England international, and a truly great coach could improve him. I know it's a quiet day on here so this sort of fat-arsed idle chat is welcome, but let's not be too silly about it. I can't believe the blessed Brendan isn't as good as you think he is.

It would be difficult not to improve him, the base is set at a pretty low fucking level.

Debating whether he could or should spend time coaching him is kinda missing the point. He's patently not good enough, and however long you give dedicating time to getting something more out of time (and let's face it, he needs plenty of hours) is taking away from time you can spend on other players - players who do fit into your system.

Not to mention what we could do with the 5-10M odd we'd get from selling him.

BR done a solid job in Improving Hendo and Downing, so live in hope we can do the same with AC if BR has the patience for the job.

BR had fuck all to do with it, Hendo is at an age where it was obvious he would improve.
Downing couldn't have been any worse than last season, some marginal bounce back had to be expected.

Carroll is a lemon, and no amount of paint can turn him golden.

He's apparently playing in a system that suits him according to everyone, and he's been rubbish.

The most worrying thing for me is his injury problems. Andy can be quite a useful player on his day, but he needs to play consistently to find his best form and confidence as a striker. He has been out with various injuries for large parts of 2 previous seasons and nothing destroys the market value of a player faster than the "injury-prone" tag (well, that and the Nazi salute celebration, I suppose).

Especially for a big, physical guy like him, if his knees keep breaking down, instead of receiving 10-12 million from another club to take him off our hands we might be looking at releasing him for free and paying a big chuck of his contract to boot, which would make the Carroll transfer worse then Aquilani and Joe Cole deals combined.

Yeah, because we already do so incredibly well against Stoke, that'll really make them our easiest opponent.

It's more like they might actually be interested in buying the lump.

id keep him, he's got some goals on him, throw him on in the dying minutes of a game we're losing and hope someone can angle a cross to bounce directly off his face into the goal, then surely we'd get slightly more for him than we would right now. Actually i would suggest that if he wasnt on fat wages.....

West Ham are not definitely signing Bony so I want Carroll to go there . It seems that Chelsea will have a big influence on where Bony ends up since Vitesse are more or less a feeder club for them . They seem to be not interested themselves ,as I guess he is not a fancy enough name, but they do not want him going to a title rival . Hopefully we are still interested in Bony as we are the biggest name being mentioned who is not a threat to Chelsea .

26 goals in the league this season . Not bad considering he was at the African Cup and has also played AM a fair bit as well .

Owen talks about being managed badly when he was a young player, but Newcastle seem to have been shockingly incompetent with Carroll at the same age. They noted very early that he had a tendency to land on one heel whenever he jumped to head a ball, and this was causing early damage not only to his ankle and knee but also his back, and what did they do? Nothing except continue to mention it casually as he progressed, with the same injuries recurring but getting worse and worse.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed his side's interest in signing Andy Carroll on a permanent basis

*prays*

Its however a certain that if he leaves, he'll score against us next season.

When will everyone accept that when fit and given the right opportunities and service he is a fucking good centre forward .
Unless we are offered decent money and that is in excess of 16m I would not sell

regards

But he's rarely fit, won't get the opportunities because he won't start regularly and neither or players or style are geared towards swinging in high crosses from wide areas.

If we're attempting to play a fluid, quick, fast short passing game based in technique & technical ability we'd do as well to stick Skrtel or Coates upfront as Carroll.

It's not that he's completely bereft of ability, it's that he doesn't and never will suit us.

I would rather keep him as a rather speculative plan B, than give him away for under £12m, I wouldn't necessarily say that he is totally geared up just for crosses, I think his second goal today shows that - he has decent feet.

We paid 8m for Coutinho, 12m (?) for Sturridge and Djuricic is supposed going for 6m euros, so I'd much rather we took our chances with that 12m.

When asked whether he would like to retain the 6ft 3in striker’s services next season, the West Ham manager said: “The answer to that would be yes.

“There is always a possibility. We will look at the end of the season and we will se what negotiations can be done.”

Carroll’s time in London has been blighted by injury, but he is now fully fit and judging by today’s performance, it will only be a matter of time before he earns an international recall.

Roy Hodgson omitted Carroll from his squad for the double-header against San Marino and Montenegro, but when the England manager comes to watch the footage of today’s game at Upton Park, he will be impressed, Allardyce reckons.

“That was the best we have seen of him here,” Allardyce added.

“Because he has put two goals in, on top of a good performance.

“I hope this kicks him on to being a regular scorer for us in the next eight games.

“He is in a good frame of mind now and finally after a long wait his fitness is good and that’s why you are seeing these performances and the goals are coming.”

I think the biggest problem with keeping Andy as an option 2 (despite the fact that its almost mythical for teams to have an option 2 these days) is that both his confidence and abilities seem to be attached to playing regularly.

So it's a vicious circle - he's never going to be option 1 and as option 2 he's never going to play enough to be effective.

If Carroll fancied being a modern day Solskjaer it would be ideal - but he isn't and I'm sure he doesn't want to be either.

I'm not to keen on a 80/90k a week Andy on the bench either just as a plan b.
Hopefully he scores a couple of more goals in the last games of the season and there is some transfer interest.

11 league goals in 61 games after his move from Newcastle isnt a confidence boost.

If we want a big man option b, I think it's far more economical and practical to have Ngoo in the squad (who'll currently only be on a couple of £k per week, max) and have that £80k odd plus Andy's transfer fee available for an option a in another position.

I only hope Carroll goes on a scoring spree from now till the end of the season so his value can remain and the 15m vicinity. No doubt those two goals will have halted his diminishing value already.

Yep. That's all I care about. Get him out ASAP and have £12-15m to spend on someone useful.
