Skrtel is an above average CB on an upswing of form. Kolo is a world class defender, who is still a very good CB winding down his career. Sakho is currently very good center half, who has a very realistic chance at being top tier. What about Agger? World Class, very good, or above average? Somewhere in the middle?

Massively devoted player, hard worker, excellent attitude and all that, but in terms of sheer ability, how good is he? As has been discussed, he has a tendency to lose his man on set pieces, and is quite injury prone.

If you were an unbiased Russian Billionaire looking to find a central defender to build your dream squad around, would you go after Agger ahead of say Vertonghen? How about an aging Vidic, or dynamic David Luiz? Is he a better option than Garay, Papa, Badstuber, Hummels, Subotic, or Howedes?

Agger can be very good, but he can also be very bad. How many of those names(or others I didn't include) would you put ahead of him in that scenario?

He's a good above-average centre half with some excellent qualities, but also some very obvious weaknesses. There are at least 5-6 centre-halves in the PL who're better than him.

Kompany, Vidic, Vertonghen, Ferdinand, Ivanovic

He comes in the rung below that alongside Skrtel (who'd have been a notch higher himself were it not for his inconsistency).

Hopefully Sakho goes on to be in that first list as well.

Pretty much this, except I'd probably be a little less generous about his level.

Agger needs a good coach to teach him not to give away so many chances.

How the fuck did we concede from a corner with 4 fucking CB's on the field.

Toure and Skrtel should be the partnership for now but I think Sahko will continue to play

[article=http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/soccer-dirty-tackle/daniel-agger-hits-young-boy-face-ball-apologizes-033038650--sow.html]Denmark will host Italy in a crucial World Cup Qualifier on Friday, with the hope of earning at least a point to increase their chances of earning the play-off place in UEFA Group B.

The Danes were preparing at their Helsingør training camp on Tuesday when one of the players took a shot at goal and it went wide, hitting a young boy in the face. Naturally, you would assume that the wayward shot belonged to Nicklas Bendtner, but it was actually centre-back Daniel Agger.

When he noticed that he had floored the young boy, Agger did the decent thing and jumped the barrier to see if he was alright. Not only did the big Dane offer an apology, but he also gave the kid the shirt off of his back. It was a classy move from the 28-year-old.[/article]

[article=http://www.charityantivirus.com/en/accounting-and-costs]As part of our mission to help as many children as possible, CharityAntivirus is proud to be giving 100% of our profit to children’s charities. On top of that, 60 – 80% of our total profit will be going to our chosen charity partners. This amount can vary between 60 – 80%, depending on different costs such as promotions, support and administration.

All costs and donations will be listed quarterly on our webpage under this menu (“Accounting and Costs”), so that everyone can follow both ingoing and outgoing transactions.

We have built a strong relationship with the captain of the Danish national team, Daniel Agger, who is the founder of The Agger Foundation. Through his foundation, our donations will be given to our chosen children’s charities.

As initial partners we have chosen a widespread charity network through the Danish affiliate of the Child Fund Alliance, BØRNEfonden. Please read more about the organization and their vision on www.bornefonden.dk.

Moreover, The Agger Foundation is venturing with Children’s Welfare. We are very happy to be able to give a portion of our collected donations to children in need around Denmark.[/article]

[article=http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/345291/Liverpool-s-Daniel-Agger-reveals-real-reason-behind-Barcelona-move-snub]DANIEL AGGER has revealed why he decided not to pursue the chance to play for La Liga giants Barcelona.

The Reds rebuffed several offers from Barcelona for the centre-back during the summer, who's revealed the pursuit of trophies have kept him foucsed soley on life at Anfield.

"In January, I’ll have been at Liverpool for eight years," he told Danish paper Ekstrabladet.

"If you count how many central defenders who have gone through the system during that period, you need to use more than one hand.

"That’s a lot, and I’m standing there still. I think that’s a reason [I'm still at the club]. I know, that is!

"For me [staying at Anfield] it’s also about making the team as strong as possible, because I’m hungry to win something. I believe winning things is possible.

"I’m interested in being part of a squad of 25 strong players, and those who the club bought in during the summer clearly help raise our level.

Agger also claimed that even though the club weren't interested in selling him, that could all change in the future.

"[The decision on Liverpool selling me to Barcelona] was up to the club. The club would not sell me, and it was so. We can always talk about that again later.

"I do not know [if I'll leave Liverpool]. Right now I have two and a half years left on my contract, and I intend to fulfil my contract.

"I’m glad I'm at Liverpool and playing well. We have a great team, and if I can win something it will be great. Liverpool is a huge club."[/article]

I don't know. But the key thing for me is that none of those players you mentioned play for LFC. So I think we should start our better players. But at the same time I'm not overly concerned that the other defenders who play in his place will let us down badly...

He's a very good player and the season is only 9 games old. He'll play more than enough games regardless.
Right now we're 3 1 0 in the 4 games he has missed I think. We shouldnt change a winning team and our CBs have all been very good. So he stays on the bench until we need him or someone fucks up. Its called options.

If we get 15-20 million euro offer from barca in Jan, I'd sell and invest in a big time midfielder with whatever budget we get.

I think Agger presents a similar kind of problem as Luiz of Chelsea. He is a great player, but he doesn't have the instincts of a centre-back.

The question then arises as to where Agger should be played. I haven't a clue to be honest. He has played left back in the past so maybe that's the answer.

Its just silly. Agger hasnt suddenly turned shit because he's on the bench. How many goals have conceded this season with him on the pitch?
one maybe two, right?

Is he surplus to requirements? Don't think so, not yet.

It's not that - we have 4 CBs. Sakho - will play. Toure/Skrtel/Agger are fighting for 1-2 spots. That obviously is nice n' all, but we need something in the middle if we're going to push on here. We have to think of what our goals are this year with a weakened league (or so it seeems). We need to make it count. And if we get a similar offer for Skittles, and not Agger, I'd say sell too. Because 15-20 million + x million, we can buy a good CM to help us push for 1-4.

Sure it would hard to turn down a decent bid for Agger or Skrtel atm. We definitely need another midfielder.

I'd have him in rather than Skrtel any day. Skrtel gets more stupid by the day, and the way he seems to think defending in the box means blatantly wrapping his arms around an opponent and preferably dragging him to the ground is really doing my head in. It's a miracle he doesn't concede several pens a game.

The Motd people didn't seem too impressed with his game.
But yeah Skrtel can be very physical.

Id happily play Agger. I honestly don't mind which of our CB play. I want consistency obviously whoever plays.

I don't dislike him, but his inability to learn must drive Rodgers crazy. He doesn't ever get rid of silly stuff from his game, he just stops it for a month or so and then it creeps back in - holding players, pushing them in the back, climbing on them, letting them drag him out of position. Time and again it all comes back. At his very best he's obviously a monster of a defender but maybe it's a problem of concentration, too often he's far too careless.

I'm not that bothered who plays to be honest because the opposition seem to get chances no matter who plays. I don't think there is a stand-out pair amongst them. Not yet anyway.

As for Agger as an individual, it's difficult. I like the guy (*) but Sakho has been bought for an awful lot of money and effectively plays in his position. He is a different type of defender to the rest though so perhaps that's enough to keep him here.

* As far as we can tell he's had offers from City and Barcelona and has always been happy to stay. Carra got a lot of kudos for loyalty and though Agger isn't quite vocal about it (and has given one or two snotty interviews when benched) he should get at least some kudos for sticking it out with us.

Spot on. But Touré has been the stand out performer so far this season.
Model professional, looks rejuvenated.

The defenders seem easily wound up. Against Newcastle - and being outwitted by Alan Pardew is no badge of honour - there was a corner when all the attacking Newcastle players stood in the middle of the area as a bunch, and you would have thought this was the most brilliant tactical masterstroke by the way our defenders were seemingly paralysed by confusion.
