Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva says he is in the final stage of his lengthy recovery from knee surgery and hopes to be fit for the Reds' pre-season.
The Brazilian saw his campaign cut short in November after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage to his left knee in Liverpool's 2-0 Carling Cup win over Chelsea.
Lucas underwent an operation on the problem the following month and has been recovering ever since, with the midfielder currently continuing his rehabilitation in his native Brazil.
After six months on the sidelines, the 25-year-old is hungry to return to action and hopes to be fully recovered in time for next season.
He told Brazilian TV channel Sportv: "I'm in the final stage of my recovery. I've been recovering for six months.
"I am currently in the physical stage, aiming to be back for pre-season, so that I can be back on the pitch as soon as possible."

We all know it will take time for him to get back to the form he was showing before the injury. Let's hope he gets there sooner than expected.

lucas isn't that good. wouldn't get in any other top team.

So one Brendan loves him and the other one hates him. This is going to be torture for poor Bren, his very own Bizarro World.

If we play with a Swansea style system, there's no doubt Lucas will be a very very important player for us, considering the holes that'll be left by the high defensive line and players getting forward.
Hope he makes a full recovery. Fortunately he's not a speedst'r so shouldn't be that badly affected.

What the fuck is up with Skully recently? Is he like the reverse that guy on Twitter?? Have I missed something? Am I being whoosed again?!

Skully is currently scm's dark cloud of doom. It will take nothing less than winning the quadruple next season for it to be lifted.

I'm worried about his mental state. He shouldn't be left on his own.

It's not healthy being THIS negative about EVERYTHING!

I'm still not convinced that Lucas is the right man for the job; sure he's as good as Mikel, De Jong, Carrick etc who all play for top EPL teams but just because there's a dearth of good DM's in the EPL at present shouldn't mean we should settle for something similar. He has certainly improved over the last season and I have no problem with him as squad player but ideally we need something better.

I don't think he'll play a major role under Rodgers after the initial few months of the season simply because I don't think his passing is good enough and I believe Rodgers will try look for someone more comfortable in possession.

Lucas Leiva: Says he is recovering well from first serious injury of career

Liverpool's combative midfielder suffered serious damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last November, undergoing surgery the following month.Lucas Leiva hopes to be fit enough to return to action around the start of the new season.

Now back on Merseyside after a spell of rehab with former club Gremio in his native Brazil, the 25-year-old feels his long spell out of action is nearing the end.
"I think I am progressing very well in terms of the knee, strength and fitness-wise," he said.
"I am working every week and trying to improve every week and the main target is to be fit for the new season, if not for the start then after a few weeks."
Difficult

The injury forced Lucas into the first long-term absence of his career, something he admits he found difficult to deal with.
He added: "It has been very hard for me because I have never been out for a month so you can imagine five months when I can't play and only watch the game.
"I just had to cope with the injury and the time. As soon as I got the injury I knew I would be out for many months and I started to think about other things.
"The most difficult period for me was when I was on crutches for two months, especially the first four weeks after the surgery when the knee was swollen.
"To be honest, for a few moments I thought I couldn't come back or even walk, because the way I looked at my knee I felt scared.
"But as soon as I started the rehab, it is unbelievable how your body reacts.
"My main target now is to be 100% recovered and be okay to play a part in next season."

I don't think he will have much difficulty adapting to the new regime.

Was going to say this, exactly this.

If any player in our squad will have very little to change it's Lucas. Hopefully that will aid him in his recovery too cause I have a feeling we're going to need him in good form next season.

I worry about coming back from that type of injury. If he reaches anything like the standard he was hitting last season he really will have earned the Wonderman tag.

Without hyping him too much I do think he his mentally strong enough to recover fully. It is just whether his body will let him.
