When was the last time that.......

Reading at posts on here you could think Coates is the new Alan Hansen and Carragher is Pellegrino

Not really T - people just think his time as a dominant defensive player is over, and it's better we focus on using him against weaker opposition. I bet he'd say it too ...

We lost 3 nil at West Brom with Agger-Skrtel both having a mare..Coates last few games were a bit shaky to say the least
Granted, Carra is not at his best anymore but to question when he had his last decent game is ludicrous.
I hope he starts today

No - I hope he doesn't start today. You've not watched much football over the last 12 months if you can't tell how Cara's level has dropped. He's not as bad as Dreamy is making out, and was ok against Hearts, but his days of dealing with top class STs is over imo. Agger-Skrtel had a bad game last week, yes. How were they all of last year again? Coates has been showing nothing but the makings of a very solid CB - a mistake here and there, and decent displays.

We won our only trophy in years with Carra being our best defender by miles. Agger at fault on Cardiff goal.
We finished 8th last season, with Skrtel-Agger, none of our players(bar 2 or 3) cant deal with top class oponent players my friend.
loads of delusional people on here

Oh come on ... We didn't finish 8th because the Agger-Skrtel partnership, we finished 8th because we couldn't score goals!

I was a bit disappointed the 'Carra 700 games' thread only got 22 responses. Especially given the number of post and threads devoted to loads of other gobshites that we've been unfortunately saddled with e.g. Aquafanny.

True.

Carra performs to his very best whenever he is on the pitch.

I have NEVER seen him give less than 100% for us.

Age has not been kind to him & it leaves him vulnerable, true, but the loss of him in the changing room & training pitch will be much bigger than many seem to realise.

He can play a small part on the pitch this season, & a large part for the team.

Respect. After 700+ games & many, many match winning performances he damn well deserves it.

Skrtel was our best defender, nay, best player in the Carling Cup final.

I love Carragher too but stop telling porkies.

It was hardly fantastic Lech, it's where we dropped the points, due to two errors Carragher would have been crucified for.

Like Vlad in the other thread, he knows ... the thing is, Kelly's mistake was hard to stop - 99% of defenders struggle with that (imo of course) and Skrtel - well, we saw this from Carra against Hearts (Reina rescued him there) and no one complained really about that (his only real gaffe).

Do people really feel we should keep Coates on the bench and keep Carra as our 3rd CB?

We would never have concedeed these 2 goals with Carra.
Past it or not, never ever.
I'd play him at right back now

No, but some of the flack he's getting is unnecessary, and the mistake is what prompted this thread, isn't it?

Ahhhh - this is a different system where the manager kinda puts an emphasis on passing it back in this situation.

As for Carra at RB? His days there are long gone - something he himself would probably admit to ... The idea that Carra is what he was 2-3 years ago is odd. He's still a capable CB who can spell Agger or Skrtel when needed, but the days of Carra being the player we loved him for are over.

Im not disagreeing with you there LTW, 3 years ago we were fighting for the title now we're fighting for 6th.
He's better than Kelly and as I said, even just with his presence, we wouldnt have conceded these 2 soft goals

You really think he's a better RB than Kelly? I mean, he's a better defender but he'd struggled there ... and to base why you'd start him on our team's success then and now is rather silly ... We're not the same team, but we're trying to be that team ... We have a better RB in GlenJo ... Carra is a back up now ...

So now Kelly is better than Carra?! Now, you're being a wum mate

I don't know which Carra you think is playing anymore ... but hey, puts words in my mouth, make silly assumptions (he should play based on the fact he was still at a very high level 3 years ago) or pretend that he would have helped yesterday (maybe on those two errors - but overall? Just don't think he has it in him to play 90 minutes on Thursday and then the best team in the league a few days later).

I think most people now realise that Carra is not going to be a regular for us any longer, and I suspect that he also realises this. Happens to all players. That doesn't take away from the years of service and commitment he has given us.

What does grate quite a bit is that some seem to have been looking forward to this, just to claim that they were right all along, which in itself is absurd anyway.

Carra has been fantastic for us for years, but now we have younger and better players who will rightly start ahead of him. If he is happy to stay at the club as back up then that seems a pretty perfect scenario to me.

Always an agenda with Carra. You're either cunt for saying it 2 years ago or gloating for saying it now or accused of bringing it up now when it's obvious. No two ways about it.
Yeah he's been world class for the past few years.

Life is unfair like that. When you're a cunt, people call you out for it no matter what you say.
