Seems rather unnecessary to me though and slightly sad that a supporter can't celebrate the achievements of a fantastic servant to the club as he is coming to the end of his career but would rather use his (understandable) decline as an excuse for some kind of misplaced self promotion.

No of course his past achievements don't guarantee him a place in the starting eleven. As I think I said already, I think everyone is well aware that Carra shouldn't be playing every game, and that we have younger and better players now who are rightly starting ahead of him.
How is that me saying that that he should play ahead of Agger?
He is a member of the squad as back up. Not even first back up. Why does his mere presence in the squad, even in that limited capacity, offend you so much?
Carra wasn't "past it" 2 years ago, but Modo is right in thinking that Carra should not have been a first team defender since 2009. Love the guy but he's 4th choice. Oh and btw Lechac, if Carra had been playing in the game against city I think we would have lost. You say "no way would he allow soft goals like that." but he does precisely that by allowing younger, stronger, fitter players to breeze by.

Give it time. When Neil returns in two or three years time Modo would have been right all along.
Why it bothers me? I wasn't too bothered two years ago but it has gradually become more and more frustrating. It culminated last season when Coates barely played while Carra got 19 starts in the league.
So I was pretty delighted when I heard that Coates was starting against Man C. More so afterwards because he actually did well.

No. Before Carra's injury last season then Skrtel grabbed the opportunity to form one of the best pairs CB in the league with Agger, "people" still kept claiming that carra was our best defender and our defense would be shit without his organization skills.
Of course it's just a small part of revisionism, just like now "people" claim that they never wanted Carroll or Downing. Or top 4 was always out of reach last season.
