What a fantastic football club we are

New Season is up on us.. for the first time in years we have squad that is full deep of Strength and Depth.. We have all areas covered.. So much so with the players all fit much, we could potentially field two decent starting 11.. one for the PL.. the other for Europa League.. with some players left over

We have some cracking young talent coming through.. Experience in midfield, creative forward thinking players and a forward line that when injury free is probably the strongest in terms of strength and depth in the League

Now if only we had a decent manager 😉

I just can't get enthused as our defence is just so weak and I know we're going to be a soft target. Hopefully we'll be exciting to watch again, but its fucking annoying when we can't defend to save our lives.

It does worry me with Rodgers record to be fair.. Hopefully though we will just outscore the opposition, we do look a decent out fit personnel wise going forward.. If it clicks with the new signings and Studge stays fit.. it could be fun times again..

If Lovren & Skrtel is his preferred partnership then outscoring the opposition will have to be a must...

It's weird that after spending so much money and getting in loads of new players I don't see us doing any better than last season. Maybe it's because I've lost all faith in the management and coaching staff to improve things or it might be that I've seen it all before and know how it ends. I'm not bothering with the early season optimism shite this year so lets hope they surprise me.

Fuck me.. this place is full of Manic Depressives..

We really where shit last season though weren't we..?

I find it a bit weird that you dont believe we'll do better than last season.
We've brought in 4 quality players that can go straight into the first team, the players we bought last year have gotten 1 year of adopting to Liverpool and Rodgers has shaken up his backroom staff.

Everything is in place to do better than last year. The question is if its good enough to get into the top 4.

I think those people just want Rodgers gone ASAP because they think he's doing the club serious harm.

If that's poor support then so be it.

When i say do better than last season i mean get into the top four at least (and it's sad that's how success is measured nowadays) as if we got fifth then i wouldn't be anymore impressed than sixth place as it means roughly the same.
As for bringing in 4 quality players then i'd agree with Clyne and Milner but Benteke and Firmino are bigger uncertainties in my opinion. Benteke because i'm not sure how he will fit into how we play and Firmino because he's never played in England before and it remains to be seen how he adapts and how long it takes him to adapt.
The players we brought in last year include Lovren ,Moreno and Lallana and who's to say they will be any better than last season. Maybe if in the post season Moreno has stopped being a shithouse or Lovren stop being poor positionally and Lallana has learnt to stay on his feet more and stop needing 25 touches whenever it gets to him. They were the players who were given a chance to fail last season. Then we have Can and Markovic who the manager thinks should play in defence when they clearly aren't defenders.
I don't understand your last point about Rodgers shaking up the backroom staff being a positive. He brought in his mate to replace his other mate and brought in Gary Mac as a friendly face who the supporters like but who has no track record as a succesful coach whatsoever.

I think there's a few on here would rather we bombed so they can somehow appear to have been right all along. That's not what I call support.
Well don't count me a one who wants us to fail. I've never said anything of the sort. I support the club not the manager or the players or the owners. When they have all left I'll still be here supporting my team and nothing is going to change that regardless of whether were succesful or not.

Love the club, enjoy going to the games but have little faith in the management or team to bring glory back.

The days when you knew we would win, it was just by how many, are gone. Wish I could watch a game without despairing at the crap served up, and expectations are so low it's unbelievable.

There again a couple of wins and it will all be different, that's the way it works

We're undoubtedly stronger as a squad than last season, especially upfront, which is good. I think last season's capitulation just left a bitter taste and its going to take some convincing.
Hopefully Coutinho continues to be ace, Firmino is a revelation and Benteke will smash some more goals in like last weekend. However, we don't have many players worth the admission price and without that kind of inspiration, you're left trusting in the manager. And he's got a lot to prove.

I have been fairly critical of the transfers and the managers the last 6 months and I do not agree with the way we have gone about business. However, when a new season starts, I become an irrational optimist. Dunno why but it happens every season. With no rational basis, I currently believe that we will win the league. Waiting for my bubble to burst in the next 2 weeks.

I think when you lose that you lose interest in football.

Mark Hughes will be picking up the pieces of his broken Stoke side come Monday morning.

Cautiously excited about Firmino and I hope Lallana has a fantastic season just to annoy everyone who has been whining about him.

Top 4 here we come*

* not to be quoted in the future, may be influenced by preseason excitement

We can only hope. Unfortunately it will be more of the same as last season with regards to Lallana. I have seen nothing so far to tell me otherwise.

I'm a lot happier with our squad this season. I'm not happy that we haven't addressed the problem at left back, and if Skrtel or Sakho get injured we have no decent cover.

As for Rodgers, losing Sturridge and Suarez was always going to take it's toll. He tried the 3 at the back thing, and it didn't work. From watching the pre season matches it looks like he's reverted to a traditional back 4 so that's something positive. I'm more than happy to give him another season in charge. In any case, if he gets sacked I don't think there are any better options out there. Klopp and Ancelotti have pretty much ruled themselves out.

When did Klopp rule himself out? Sounded like he was begging for the job to me.

On 2 June 2015, Klopp confirmed he was to take a sabbatical after "seven emotional years" managing Borussia Dortmund.

That's not to say he'd be up for the job next season.

Yeah but there were at least a couple of quotes from his agent that read like come and get me pleas. Plus reliable guys like Honigstein were saying he'd find it very hard to turn down.

Reading between the lines it's pretty obvious he'd have taken the job.

Maybe so. And if that were true, I'd have loved to see him getting the job. But if not, then keeping Rodgers was the right decision because any of the candidates other than Klopp or Ancelotti wouldn't have been good enough. No point sacking Rodgers unless we had someone to replace him. No point having another Hodgeson situation.

So you would've replaced Rodgers with the first mong who hadn't a clue?

I'd have taken one of a number of good foreign coaches, there are at least 4 or 5 of them about.

Then I'd have appointed a proper Director of Football.

I'm pretty certain we'd have been starting the season with a much more sensible squad and a coach who can properly organise the players at his disposal.
