We're still flat track bullies

We've played 6 games against teams in the top half of the Premiership this season.

We beat United.

Arsenal and Southampton - both beat us.

We drew with Everton, Newcastle and Swansea.

So we've taken 6 points from 6 games against top half of the table teams, and ironically our only win came without our best player.

How can we improve on it ? Or can we improve on it ?

It's a sign that maybe not that much has changed since last season

6 games out of 20 (and the 3 draws were all away from home). Early days, we are improving and so will the Top Half results.

Since the second half of the season, if we shared the same form in the first half of the season that we did in the second, wouldn't we have made the top four? I could live with that.

Glass half full - we've a 50% record against teams in the top 6 and we've taken 3pts out of 6 against them. That's a marvellous record. I don't expect it to look like that at the end of December.

We definitely need to be flat track bullies.

It's the base to build from. It's what got Utd titles, Ferguson knew the pressure would be off when the big matches came around..

Stage 1: Ensure you are a flat track bully.
Stage 2: Home fortress.
Stage 3: Play title contenders without pressure, knowing a result was the icing and not critical.

The main thing is that we beat the bottom half and reverse poor results in corresponding fixtures.

Great post. I do like being confident we're going to roll over lesser teams, especially at home. We went through a period with Kenny and into the first half of last season where teams could keep us at bay, leading to a growing sense of unease and frustration. We look really confident at home now, and we also look like we're capable of scoring against anyone away. Yup, we're continuing the form of the second half of last season, and frankly, that's not bad to be going along with.

Say we beat the bottom 10 teams home & away.

60 points.

That's what being flat track bullies gets you, a few wins from top 4 with a lot of games to those wins in.

As already stated, it's a fantastic base to build a top side on.

In fact, I can't think of many flat track bully sides that haven't gone on to win the league within a couple of seasons.

I think also one of our recent problems was that we were no longer flat track bullies, and sides were more able to contain us at home, and attack us away. Becoming a team that will consistently smash weak opposition means that when we come up against rivals, they will have a greater pressure to win knowing that we are so dominant against lower opposition with less banana skin fixtures.

It's a little silly to not suggest much has changed. Much has.

However, I would agree that Rodgers has a point to prove against bigger teams. He's not passed this test yet. Remember he also lost in the Cap 1 match v United.

It's the one thing that makes me question his managerial nous. Especially when we'll not have many soft games in the CL next season. He needs to crack this code, and soon.

So we're even bigger flat track bullies than last year ?

We're getting more points from the bottom, whilst getting the same amount of points from the top, that's an improvement not matter how you look at it. The two points per game average those stats are suggesting would leave us in a very very healthy position come the end of the season, 3rd in fact, going by last seasons standards.

It might not be because of an improvement by us, it could be those teams at the bottom being worse

If that were true, then it'd mean the teams at the top were worse too, if they're not doing as well against them.

If all the teams at the bottom are worse, and all the teams at the top, except us, are worse, I think we'll do ok.

Let's take a tiny population of facts and stats, apply them and come up up with an inconclusive answer that we haven't improved.

So what, also playing some great football (at times) which makes this season so much more ejoyable
