Team is gaining confidence ... Still lacking a top notch striker for most of the season, and we're well within reach of 3rd-4th. It's a young team, but you can tell players are beginning to do better and major credit to players like Lucas (Who's steadied the ship brilliantly), Sakho (who has cemented his spot), Can (who's a solid RCB) and Borini ... Yes, we were lucky not to concede and some issues need to be worked on - but we're on a great run and while that Leicester debacle still really irks mots of us, if we maintain this level of commitment and improvement, then I think we'll be very happy at season's end.

I'm sorry if you think that's racist. It sure wasn't meant that way. I didn't realize that black beauty was derogatory.

I assure you i couldn't care less about the colour of a person's skin.
Don't sweat it, sometimes people go looking for things that aren't there.

Ask themn what Oncy's term of endearment is for him.

I thought it was a very uneven performance; some players did very well and some rather poorly. Here are my ratings and a few observations:

Mignolet 6.5 – He has noticeably simplified his ground game, just clearing the ball upfield every time he has a chance to do so. That simplification has removed what used to be a drain on his confidence and his overall game got back to last season's level. Negatives: once badly flapped on a corner (came out nowhere near the ball), doesn't catch shots from distance cleanly even when they are straight at him (I wonder if teams will try to exploit it), his clearances upfield gave up possession every single time. I'm afraid his style of goalkeeping doesn't suit this team and efforts to make Mignolet into something he's not have clearly failed. For this particular game he gets a good grade for a top-notch save from Benteke and catching the ball cleanly from most corners and crosses (toothless "floating" deliveries from Villa players helped). But overall we need better.
Moreno 5.5 – got overrun on his flank by Hutton. Positioning, tackling still below average.
Sakho 6.5 – typically composed and powerful performance. One blemish was a rash decision to come out when he couldn't possibly have won the ball which led to the Benteke chance (Moreno probably should have covered).
Skrtel 7.0 – strong and almost error-free performance by the big Slovak.
Can 6.5 – Mr. Calm, always finding a clever way to play out of the back.
Markovic 6.5 – did better than Moreno defensively, nothing quite clicked for him in attack, but he looked threatening and inventive
Lucas 7.5 – top-notch performance. I was amazed how high he was pressing at times (and then promptly returned to position), he sure does cover more ground than at the beginning of the season. Read the game superbly – I couldn't help but cheer and clap when he moved like a flash to press an opponent before his partner even passed the ball to him, he just read and anticipated the decision. This is Lucas at his best. He even should have scored if not for an incredible save by Guzan.
Henderson 7.0 – Mr. Assist. Smart and controlled with a few nice touches.
Coutinho 6.5 – ran the show, although it was not his best game. Maybe I'm being unfair, but I prefer Lallana in away games.
Sterling 6.0 – a bit rusty and subdued. His head still seems to be on vacation. Should have scored his 1 on 1 or at least tested the keeper better. Still got an assist.
Borini 5.0 – infuriatingly, irredeemably mediocre player. I gave him 1 full extra point for the goal, otherwise it would have been a 4. He didn't press, he lost the ball every single time he was challenged, he got caught offside too much. OK, I get it, Fabio – you don't have any special physical talent. But I thought you would compensate it by working hard and by having a brain of a top player; unfortunately I see no evidence of either. That time he didn't play the simplest of passes to Coutinho who was wide open, there is just no excuse for that, any decent player should make that pass with eyes closed. I wanted Borini to be given a run up front until Sturridge returns, now I've changed my mind (despite the goal). Please fuck off.

SUBS:
Lambert 6.5 – a real striker's goal. He is a good player to bring off the bench in certain games.
Enrique 6.0 – more or less stopped the flow of attacks down our left that Moreno was unable to shut down. Or maybe Villa just tired. In any case, a useful cameo and a good sub from Rodgers.
Ibe 6.0 – not given much time, but I liked everything he did; every touch was purposeful and confident. I want to see more of this player. He might even be a baller.

Rodgers 6.5 – he selected the starting 11 I wanted to see, but once the gap in quality between Borini and his teammates because as obvious and wide as a grand canyon, he should have subbed his off earlier. I hope from now on he plays Sterling up front (until Sturridge is back, obviously), which will open up 1 space in attacking midfield for Lallana, Gerrard or Ibe.

Away fans: 10.0 – I heard them all game, they were great and maybe that's why players couldn't wait to celebrate with them.

Agree with this part especially.
I know this is going to sound a bit cunty cos they all count, but the goal wasn't taken particularly well. He seems to be genuinely baffled by the bounce of the ball in most situations when it ends up near him; he has zero - ZERO inability to intuitively play/run into dangerous or advantageous positions; and his decision making between the simple pass or the shot is utter, utter wank. This wouldn't be so bad if his actual shot was on target most of the time. But since it almost always ends up in row Z, it's infuriating that he doesn't just play the open player in on goal.
In summary, Borini is a fucking irksome, weasly little player. Can't stand the cunt. Hope he fucks off soon.

Yep agree. Amazing that he is such a polarizing player. Just one or two goals would transform people's perception.

Why? Matic doesn't score any goals. Makalele never did. Etc etc...

I'm not saying he's as good as those two, just that it doesn't matter a jot that he doesn't score goals.

Agree generally with most of Rurik's comments.

Ming - 7.5 - I think people now mark him down or see every minor error magnified because we all know he's not good enough. Yesterday he was excellent except for the one occasion he dropped the ball and the ref. mistakenly called a foul and gave us a FK (it was cleared anyway).
Moreno - 5
Sakho - 7
Skrtel - 7.5
Can - 7
Lucas - 7
Henderson - 7
Markovic - 7.5 (defensively superb, always great in possession and was generally excellent with his passing too)
Coutinho - 6.5
Sterling - 5.5 (very very rusty, totally pathetic attempt to lob the keeper when any other option was better, slow to pick out, or ignored, good runs from team mates).
Borini - 5 (goal aside was simply awful, plays with a blind-fold on and has about as much technical skill as a deranged chicken)

Lambert - 7 - that goal was superbly taken and is worth the extra point. In fact it really demonstrated the difference between our attacking midfielders and a true striker. So pleased for him.
Enrique - 6 (has the physical presence that Moreno lacks)

Yeah maybe you're right. I just think that it might make up for the shortcomings that people see in his overall play as a DM. He isn't Matic or Makalele as you point out, so he needs some other dimension to his play to get the haters off his back. A DM over the course of a season get several chances to score. Everyone loves the guy who buries it.

Sterling aside we have no goal threat as Lambert doesn't offer any & Ballotelli is ill.

That taken into the equation means Borini's work rate & movement at least helps the more talented attacking players behind him stand a greater chance of scoring.

To put it bluntly, he's the best of a bad bunch.

I was kidding mate. I've said a few times about Borini that, although he's not prolific with goal scoring, he offers plenty of hard work, persistence and movement. Something we've been missing up front all season. He may not bag a load himself, but he'll help others score. Plus, he's an Italian international so he must be good.

Matic clocked in 8 assist last season in PL alone I think. He has 3 goals and 3 assists this season in 26 games. Obviously the sheer number of attacking quality in the Chelsea side with the most assisting player in front of him relieves a lot of pressure on matic. That said he is strong technical and could easily fill bigger boats if asked. He certainly did in his previous clubs.

The makalele argument doesn't sit with me as he was part of the strongest diamond i think i have ever seen. Like and old fashioned Italian no 2 he was almost not allowed in play on the oppositions half. The strongest definition of the traditional HM I have ever seen in English football. . The game has evolved a lot since then. Rarely will you find players that specialized in a modern top team. Players have to be able to play football as well and participate offensively. Present a viable possibility and threat when others are closed down. Be able to take and use the space on the pitch and do something useful with it... Etc etc.

As we play with a much more progressive system that allows our DM to participate i think it's more than fair to expect a decent return from Lucas. 2 goals and 5 to 7 assists. Especially as he doesn't function as a true HM.

Or to put it in other words it's absolutely necessary in the current system. That is if you want to win things of course.

So as good as Lucas is off the ball he will never be the answer because against the better teams we are too easily shut down with a player like Lucas. It's obviously the assist rate that is the biggest concern.

Thanks mate. A bunch of cunts really. Especially that squirrel Fucker. Couldn't wait to do all they could to misunderstand and misinterpret as much as possible.

Utter cunts...

Let's let that be the end of this please folks.

Regardless how it was interpreted, I have no doubt it wasn't meant to offend anyone, & I don't see any point in dragging this on.

Keep this thread about the match from now on or it'll be locked.
