Villa talk

Big ask for Lallana to start after missing a large chunk of pre-season.

He's been fit from before the International break and he'll have trained all through it and played against Wolves too (don't know if he played the full 90 though). He should be fit and raring to go.

Villa have targeted Gerrard the last 3 times they've played us. They stick Weimann near him and he peels off him every time they hit us on the counter. Gerrard's not quick enough to keep up, or disciplined enough to track him properly.

It'll happen again, they'll create chance after chance from getting into space in front of our back four.

I was saying something similar in the other thread, Villa have got our number there, but everyone assumed I was being a negative nelly. We really need to wise up to this, hopefully Gerrard will, otherwise Weinmann and Gabby will tear us apart again.

Training sessions and one practice match is great but starting a Premier League game is a different level altogether.

Yep, this will be a tougher game than many realise.

We all know Lucas will start - so why try to deny it.

Was wondering why the Villa fans feared Mario. Looked it up:

2010/11 City 4 - 0: Mario - 3 goals, 1 assist
2010/11 City 3 - 0: Mario: 1 goal (FA Cup)
2011/12 City 4 - 1: Mario - 1 goal
2012/13 City 2 - 4: Mario - 1 goal (a.e.t., League Cup)

He didn't play in the rest of the games between the two teams. Guess Villa fans don't quite like him although it's not Suarez - Norwich stuff.

I expect a different beast on Saturday regarding Ballotelli.
Whilst he had a decent game at Spurs his sharpness infront of goal was way off.
I'm expecting at least a brace from him.
He's going to get sent off now ain't he?

For this game I'd start him ahead of Gerrard. If Brodge has learned his lesson over the last 2 seasons of watching Villa waltz all over us, then he'll play Lucas too.

But he won't. He's far too close to Gerrard to drop him.

I'm looking forward to seeing Lallana in the side. Think he could make a massive difference for us this season (in a good way).

Be interesting to see if he plays Balotelli and Lambert in the diamond or plays Balotelli on his own. Would like to the llama start.
Concerned about villa waltzing past gerrard as most players do. Saying that, I thought he played really well last game.

That's what I was thinking

When talking up Lambert BR hinted Lambert wouldn't start this game but would deffo play in the league cup. Either he's spreading misinformation, or more likely, given BR's sometimes OTT levels of candour on footballing matters, we won't see Lambert start.

Having two threads for this is ridiculous, Froggy my friend, unblock Modo, he's harmless these days, mods, merge this.
