He's just jealous that Lucas can swagger back in from a near fatal injury and adam just waddles about scoring

I hope that player is back. We'll get threads of that calibre again

I like Aquilani and he is quality but his weak mentality and injury record hardly inspires confidence. He has the potential to be a key player at the club if he rolls up his sleeves and gets stuck in. Pass and move suits him down to the ground.

Alberto Aquilani wants to prove himself at Liverpool
By Chris Bevan BBC Sport - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18995512?

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani says he is puzzled by his past treatment at Anfield but is hopeful of proving himself to Brendan Rodgers.
Aquilani, 28, is back with the Reds after two seasons in Italy on loan.

"How can you pay £20m for a player and this player is never taken into consideration?" he told BBC Sport.

"I never asked to leave but I was always pushed by the club. I am here and I would like to play for Liverpool but it doesn't depend only on me."

Aquilani played the first half of Liverpool's friendly defeat by his former club Roma in Boston on Wednesday, and new manager Rodgers said afterwards that he is still considering whether he has a future at the club.

But the Italian international playmaker, who has two years left on his contract and is keen to commit his future to the club, says his initial meetings with Rodgers have been encouraging.
Brendan Rodgers on Aquilani's future at Anfield

"I had a very good talk with Brendan where we were able to share our thoughts and it was a very positive chat," Aquilani explained. "I like his footballing philosophy and I like the mentality he has because it matches my own skills."

Aquilani was signed by Rafa Benitez but has not played a competitive game for the club since Benitez's departure in the summer of 2010.

Under Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish, he was sent on season-long loans to Juventus and AC Milan, and says it has been frustrating not to be able to prove to Liverpool fans he can make an impact in England.

"The situation changed after Benitez left," Aquliani added. "In past years, I felt forced out. I never asked to go on loan but they made it clear it was better for me to go.

"I think Liverpool people have to know that I have never said I wanted to leave the city because my family and I were not happy here. This is not true.

"I cannot say I have unfinished business in English football because I really never played but, the little I did, I believe I was able to show to Liverpool fans that I have quality and that I could have helped the team."

Now can we all just put this to rest.
I was right all along and you all treated him like dirt. (You know who you are)

Not one single person on here has ever said what Aquilani "denies" above. All he's doing now is trying to make the best of a situation that he didn't and probably still doesn't want. The facts are (a) that he said himself when he arrived back in Italy that he wanted to to stay there and (b) that three separate and very different Liverpool managers, NOT just Rafa, have wanted rid of him. Your monomania notwithstanding, there has to be a reason for that.

(a) of course we pushed him out the door, what do you expect?
(b) When did Rafa say that he wanted to get rid of him. Show me the proof.

Lastly took me 30 seconds:

She doesnt want to live here (Liverpool), apperantly.

No one ay?

Aquilani himself isn't a credible source either, huh?

Quasi, are you for real?

(a) We brought him IN through the door for £20 mill.and got him fit. If after that you think he was simply "pushed out through the door" just for fun you're even loopier than I thought.

(b) Rafa went on record to question his commitment, and didn't play him after he got fit. As often as you keep pretending you never noticed that, I and others are going to remind you of it.

(c) Hansern's quote is from Aquilani's wife, not from Aquilani himself. And one of the many facts you keep ignoring, in the hope that no-one will notice, is what the man himself DID say, practically straight off the plane in Turin, about staying over there.

Aquilani is at Liverpool by default because nobody wants to pay money for him. He is wanted but on a free with reduced wages. We ain't budging to cancel his contract and he doesn't wanna take a pay cut to go elsewhere.

So while his here, he should roll up his sleeves and put in a shift. He is a professional and gets paid. He must show his worth and fight for a place in the team. He has it all to do. If he does that, he'll not only get some respect but our support too.

I still doubt he'll be here in September, if an offer comes in from Italy we'll take it to get him off the wage bill and he'll take it because, speculative though it may be, I think he'd rather be in Italy than here.

As for his ability, I don't think anyone has EVER questioned it, people just get sick of having it rammed down their throats by Modo in every tenuously linked thread. Just read his comments in the match thread the other night, "Aquilani IS passing football", "Aquilani made a tackle". Meanwhile Jonjo and Cole were probably the highlights of our first half performance, which, quelle surprise, went largely unmentioned or noticed by Quasi, because he was too busy slobbering over Pastrami. It's unnerving and a bit scary.

Very well put.

Roland: if Aquilani means what he's quoted above as having said, he'll do as you suggest. Despite the fact that I think it'll be best for all concerned if he goes, I actually do rate him and think he could do OK while he's still here *if* he puts a shift in.

Nobody doubts his ability but his weak mentality is an issue. He can say all he wants to about how he was driven out and not given a chance which is a half truth. His previous quotes testify to him not wanting to be at Liverpool but that may just have as much to do with the managers having no faith in his application.

While I rate him and think that if he applies himself, he'll do well. I'll sooner take the money for him without shooting myself in the foot. 8M is decent and I'd get rid of.

I don't know how credible "The People" is but they're reporting that Aquilani has been sold to Fiorentina for £7 million.

Woah - Considering I was convinced we'd loan him out, that's a really good bit of business if true. We'll probably send that all back once we sign Jovetic though.

As much as I love Aqua, I'd give him to Fiorentina for free in order to buy Jovetic.

Before anyone celebrates I'd like to add that no major Italian paper has the same story.
Smells like bullcrap.

Here's something to get your hopes up, Fiorentina's new manager is Aquilani's former team-mate at Roma, Vicenzo Montella.

If true, that's not a bad deal for the Viola either. Aquilani's done well since he went back to Italy and has to be worth that much at the very least.

Come on Montella, make our dreams come true. Take the ballerina, powder puff paper bastard off our hands.

If we offload Aquilani, it will be some achievement.
