Fernando Torres set for Liverpool exit as agent admits Premier League big boys are interested

Fernando Torres appeared on the verge of leaving Liverpool on Sunday night after his agent indicated the striker is bound for another Premier League club.

Chelsea are at the front of the queue to sign the Spaniard and Manchester City also showed interest before moving on to other targets when they got little encouragement from the 26-year-old.

Agent Jose Antonio Martin said: ‘It is very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League, but I cannot say that it will be with Liverpool. We are working on his future but right now you cannot guarantee that he will stay with the English club.’

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Torres, but Martin made it clear they will not challenge Chelsea for Torres’ signature.

‘It is ruled out,’ said Martin. ‘Barcelona have signed David Villa and now they want to invest the money they have in other players.’

Sportsmail revealed in May that Torres was a £70million target for Chelsea and, despite Roy Hodgson insisting he would do all he could to keep the Spaniard and Steven Gerrard, the new Liverpool manager could offer no guarantees.

Having already sold Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea, Hodgson would prefer to raise funds for his squad rebuilding by selling the likes of Javier Mascherano and Albert Riera.

But Hodgson knows such is the state of Liverpool’s finances — their debt is £472.5m — a big offer from either Chelsea or City for Torres will be almost impossible to turn down.

Torres says talk about his future must wait until Spain’s World Cup campaign is over.

Oh dear, I think he should give us one more season.

I reckon that article isn't worth wiping my arse with but....

IF he jumps ship then he can go and fuck himself the cheeky cunt. And I'd hope a serious injury ends his career dead.

Agreed - it's the mail, thought I'd post it anyway as it has some quotes

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Lille striker Gervinho.

The Ivorian international impressed for the Elephants when given World Cup opportunities by Sven-Goran Eriksson, and new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is thought to be interested in the 23-year-old forward.

Gervinho made the traditional move of many African footballers, joining a Belgian club as a teenager in an effort to gain experience in European football.

Le Mans would sign Gervinho from K.S.K. Beveren in 2007, bringing the hitman to the Stade Léon-Bollée for an undisclosed fee.

Two solid seasons for the former Ligue 1 side left a string of clubs chasing the striker's signature, with Marseille, PSG and AS Monaco all reportedly considering a move. Arsene Wenger's Arsenal were also thought to be monitoring Gervinho.

However, Lille would land the player in an €8 million move, and the player has built on his reputation with 13 goals for OSC as they finished fourth in the French top division last season.

Gervinho has hinted that a move to the Premier League might be too good to resist though, saying: "It is my dream to play in the Premier League and I would like to fuflfill it with Liverpool."

The Sunday Mirror claims that new Reds boss Hodgson is keen to make a quick addition to his squad following the departure of Yossi Benayoun, and could offer in the region of £8 million for the player's services this summer.

From that it would seem he's more of a forward player than a midfielder like Benayoun.

Wasn't Bruno Cheyrou the last player we got from Lille?

Never seen him play to be honest. If he can cover the wings and a stroking role then that can only be a good thing.

A stroking role? Ooh missus.

Gervinho looked pretty good from the little I saw of him in the WC.

These links are all probably made-up though. Hodgson's barely warmed his seat yet.

WAHEY!

Roy Hodgson is ready to go head to head with Sunderland counterpart Steve Bruce in a £6million battle to sign Wigan left back Maynor Figueroa.

The new Liverpool manager has also revived their interest in Tottenham and Arsenal target Joe Cole.

Bruce made repeated attempts to prise Figueroa away from his old club last season, as revealed in Sportsmail, but was thwarted.

He is also interested in Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia.

He faces competition from Liverpool for Figueroa after Hodgson identified the left of his defence as a prime area for strengthening.

Left back Emiliano Insua is a target for Fiorentina and has struggled for form.

I've bigged up N'Zogbia a bit over the last few seasons, usually to complete cynicism and scorn, but he can be a very decent player. Never been convinced he's Liverpool quality, TBH, but there is some potential there. Figueroa is decent enough and Cole would be a great buy.

The early links into Hodgson's reign are promissing enough

Hoped for ManUre or Juventus, eh? And there was our resident Danish scout telling us Kjaer wanted to be a Red.

Incidentally I doubt Wolfsburg will be too impressed with some of those quotes about "big clubs" and the like.

Notice, it wasn't 'Kjaer' that spoke but his agent ...

The N'Zogbia link refers to Steve Bruce and Sunderland

Not a doubt in my mind that Joe Ledley is good enough for the Premier League and he could be good enough for a top 4 team.

http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/wigan-athletic-fc/127462-wigan-athletic-target-joe-ledley-looks-set-for-liverpool-fc.html

Wigan Athletic target Joe Ledley looks set for Liverpool FC According to reports Wigan Athletic look set to lose out to Liverpool FC for Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley.

The Daily Mail claims new Reds boss Roy Hodgson is hoping to land Ledley who is also a target for West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

Ledley was also in Glasgow over the weekend for a meeting with Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

However, it is understood he is reluctant to move far from his Welsh home which gives Liverpool the edge.

So it's our proximity to wales that gives Liverpool Football Club the 'edge' in the race to sign cardiff's winger ahead of stoke, wigan and west bromwich albion

Puzzling logic innit, particularly as West Brom is much closer to Cardiff than Liverpool.

Ha. I think it was Celtic it gave us the edge over, but it's still not the most flattering of reasons for choosing the most successful club in British history.

OK, so he's thick as two short planks. That's practically in the person spec for a footballer. TBH all I give a hoot about is whether he'll do the bizzo on the pitch, and from what I've seen of Ledley I'd say he would be worth a go.
