Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun To Ink £5.5m Deal At Chelsea Today
By Zack Wilson

Yossi Benayoun will confirm his exit from Liverpool within the next 24 hours and put pen to paper on a £5.5 million deal to join Chelsea, according to a report from The shite.

It is understood one of new Reds boss Roy Hodgson's first acts in his new role was to rubber stamp the winger's departure.

The Israeli is expected to commit to a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, The Independent reports that Benayoun will earn around £55,000 a week with the Blues.

It also claims that Hodgson will be handed around £15m by the Anfield board to bring in reinforcements, with Javier Mascherano also expected to leave the Reds and uncertainty still surrounding the futures of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.

Meanwhile, Barcelona starlet Gai Assulin is set to leave the club after his contract expired. The 19-year-old Israeli, who has been compared to Lionel Messi, has been tipped to join Tottenham in the summer. The winger has also been linked with moves to Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Anyone got any info on him? Skillful, fast, left/right?
Would he be a good pickup?
On a free - what signing on fee would he be worth?
[/quote]

Assulin hasn't developed as well as they thought he would - he was (with Silva and Pacheco) their highest rated kids 3 years ago. He looks very skillful when I've seen him play for the Israeli u21 but does make rash decisions more often than not, and still hasn't developed physically enough to play consitently with 'men'.

He's an AM - but can play the wings. I don't think he'll sign for us, most likely Tottenham or Arsenal if he comes to England.

Flicked over to ssn whilst having brekkie earlier and saw them mentioning Arda turan looking for a move and quoting him saying playing at Anfield was his dream.

Weren't we linked quite heavily with him last summer?

Liverpool FC reject Juventus bid for Albert Riera
by Richard Buxton. Published Fri 02 Jul 2010 12:01, Last updated: 2010-07-02

Liverpool have rejected a bid from Juventus for Albert Riera.

Rafael Benitez left the 28-year-old to the Anfield wilderness at the end of last season following a series of outbursts on Spanish radio.

Riera attempted to secure a move to Spartak Moscow before the close of the Russian transfer in April but jeopardised the potential transfer with his excessive wage demands.

The one-time Manchester City winger is hoping to be given a new lease of life following Roy Hodgson's arrival but is expected to be amongst several players deemed surplus to requirements this summer.

Bundesliga duo Hamburg SV and VfB Stuttgart have been monitoring Riera's situation but Juve have signalled their intent despite failing to offload Fabio Grosso to Atletico Madrid and only able to agree a loan deal with the Europa League holders for midfielder Tiago.

An offer of £5million had been tabled by the Serie A giants but was rejected by the Anfield board prior to Hodgson's appointment yesterday.

Hopefully it's just because we're holding out for more and not because Roy wants to keep him.

Use the money from Riera and Yossi for Turan.

Italian Press: Reds to bid for Sampdoria player?
Posted on Friday, 2nd July 2010 by David Tully

Liverpool are looking at the possibility of bringing in Sampdoria left back Reto Ziegler to Anfield, according to the Italian media. The 24 year old has had a spell in the Premier League before with Tottenham Hotspur but he failed to impress as a left winger. Since joining Sampdoria in 2007 though, he has been converted into a left full back, a position that the Reds are currently lacking in at the moment after the depature of Fabio Aurelio. Ziegler has impressed during Sampdoria’s Serie A campaign last season when the Genoa club finished fourth in the league to gain the final Champions League spot. The Swiss left back also impressed for Switzerland during the World Cup as they conceded just one goal in three group matches, beating Spain in the process.

Fullback playing for a Serie A also-ran, like Dossena? Check. And a Swiss fullback, like Degen, at that? Check. Looked a real nowhere player at Tottenham (where he also played fullback BTW)? Check.

No thanks.

And/or because they didn't want to sell anyone until the new manager had been asked if he agreed with the sale.

Yeah, I'd be happy with Turan too.

Carragher confident key pair will stay

Fri, 02 Jul 19:02:47 2010

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is confident star players Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will still be at the club next season.

The pair have both been the subject of speculation this summer following the Reds' failure to qualify for the Champions League and the departure of manager Rafael Benitez.

Some observers believe retaining their services is one of the first tasks facing new boss Roy Hodgson but Carragher expects them to stay at Anfield.

The 32-year-old told talkSPORT: "I think there is a lot of talk about this but the people who say these things, a lot of them are doing this to create a bit of pressure around the club.

"I don't think anyone knows these people personally to come out and say that.

"I am sure they will still be involved at the club next season and if they are the aim for the club will be to get back into the Champions League."

Villa winger Young tops Hodgson's Liverpool target list

The inevitable speculation over Roy Hodgson's first Liverpool signing has begun with Aston Villa's Ashley Young reportedly top of the list.

24 year-old Young has impressed at Villa Park since arriving from Watford in 2006 and enjoyed another good season, scoring five goals and contributing eight assists for Martin O’Neill’s side. Young has already won seven England caps and was considered an outside bet for Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad.

The Mail on Sunday speculates that winger Young is at the top of Hodgson's most wanted list, particularly given that he is an English player.

The new Liverpool boss hinted that he will prioritize bringing English signings to Anfield, saying, "We would be foolish not to be aware of the importance of homegrown players with the way UEFA and Premier League rules are going. Otherwise we're going to struggle to get our squad numbers together.

"I think the club have been trying to do that already with younger players like Jonjo Shelvey and Raheem Sterling but it takes time for them to come through so we might have to go into the transfer market."

Young has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City and even Barcelona. Although Aston Villa enjoyed a good season, it remains unclear whether O'Neill will have to sell players before he can make significant summer purchases. Hodgson himself would likely be forced to sell players before being able to bring the likes of Young to Liverpool.

Liverpool scare off Inter Milan with £8 million Lucas Leiva valuation
4 Jul 2010 12:48:00

Liverpool have slapped an £8 million price-tag on defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva in an attempt to prevent their former manager Rafael Benitez taking him to Inter Milan.

According to the People, both Panathinaikos and Palermo have already had bids rejected by the Reds, but with Benitez a big supporter of the Brazil international he could find himself following his former manager to the San Siro this summer.

Benitez signed Lucas during his six year spell at Anfield and stood by the former Gremio man when he was singled out for abuse from supporters following some poor individual performances.

Liverpool are said to be attempting to raise much needed funds for new manager Roy Hodgson to rebuild the side before next season, and the selling spree could begin with Lucas.

However, the Merseysiders will not want to lose Lucas, who made 32 Premier League starts last season, on the cheap and look set to be holding out for a big offer before offloading their unsettled star.

Ayala heading back to Spain

By Razwan Mirza Last updated: 4th July 2010

Liverpool defender Dani Ayala is set for a season-long loan move to Spanish second division club Real Valladolid, with a view to a permanent move.

The youngster joined the Anfield club from Sevilla back in September 2007 and Reds reserve team coach John McMahon claimed that the 19-year-old had all the attributes to succeed.

However, the hot Spanish prospect only has one year left on his contract and, following Rafa Benitez's move to Spain, he is now excited to be possibly returning to his homeland with Valladolid, who were relegated from La Liga last season.

"Right now I am waiting to see what my future is because I don't know what will happen now Benitez has left. I am happy at Liverpool but I would be very excited to play in Spain," he said in The People.

Ayala made five appearances for Liverpool last season, starting two games, against Stoke and Burnley.

Sergio Ramos:

He added: "I think Madrid's admiration of Steven Gerrard is not a secret. He is at the point now where he needs to win things. I can guarantee that under this Real Madrid set-up he will win things. I really think both of them (A. Cole) are Real Madrid-bound."

Mourinho attempted to sign Gerrard, 30, in 2004 and 2005, but the player eventually committed his future to Liverpool.

Hopefully. Then Woy can start earning some respect. Lucas is the embodiment of everything that fucked Benitez at Liverpool

Dissapointing news for KHL

McClaren to bag Kjaer
Palermo confirm Wolfsburg deal is close

Palermo have confirmed that Simon Kjaer is on his way to Wolfsburg.

The Danish centre-half is one of the most coveted young players in European football and he enhanced his reputation with some excellent displays at this summer's World Cup finals.

He was expected to join one of Europe's elite clubs with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all keen.

But instead the 21-year-old Dane is linking up with Steve McClaren at Wolsburg after a fee in excess of £10million was agreed.

"We still need to formalise the deal and the player has to agree terms with the German club," Palermo director of sport Walter Sabatini told Mediagol.

"Let us just say there is no signed paperwork, but there are some very advanced negotiations in place between Palermo and Wolfsburg.
Big fee

"The reports suggesting a €14m transfer are more or less accurate, yes."

Sabatini admits he is surprised that Kjaer will not get the chance to move to a bigger club, but he has little doubt that will happen soon enough.

"I did expect a more prestigious side to make a genuine proposal. Some of his performances in the last few months prompted them to take a step back and in my view that was a mistake," he continued.

"Simon should be valued for his qualities and not the mistakes that can be fixed. He made a few errors, but that can happen to all players. He remains very strong, good in the air and quick.

"Let us not forget he is 21 years old and has already played 70 Serie A games. It's not easy to play first-team football in a side that qualifies for Europe at that age.

"I'm sure he'll reach those big clubs soon enough, assuming the Wolfsburg deal is finalised.

"He had hoped for Manchester United or Juventus, but I'm confident he will get those opportunities in the future."

Hoped for ManUre or Juventus, eh? And there was our resident Danish scout telling us Kjaer wanted to be a Red.

Incidentally I doubt Wolfsburg will be too impressed with some of those quotes about "big clubs" and the like.
