Liverpool

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_6218018,00.html?

Skysports.com understands Birmingham are ready to rekindle their interest in Liverpool's Ryan Babel.

Birmingham tried to sign Babel during the January transfer window, but failed to agree a deal with Liverpool.

Blues boss Alex McLeish is thought to be a big admirer of the Dutchman and is ready to revive his attempts to lure him to St Andrews.

McLeish has been frustrated in his attempts to sign Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia and could now turn his attentions to Babel to fill the left-sided midfield role.

Babel's future at Liverpool looks uncertain with the 23-year-old failing to live up to expectations at Anfield.

Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on Babel to help raise funds for potential new signings for whoever becomes the club's new manager.

Prem eyes on Gilberto

Last updated: 21st June 2010

Skysports.com understands a number of Premier League sides are keen on bringing former Arsenal ace Gilberto Silva back to England.

Silva, who has impressed during Brazil's first two games at the World Cup, could be on the move this summer.

The 33-year-old is currently plying his trade at Panathinaikos, but the Greek club could decide to offload the midfielder to ease their financial problems.

The likes of Fulham, Blackburn, Everton and Liverpool are all thought to be monitoring Gilberto's situation at Panathinaikos.

The Premier League clubs could face competition for Gilberto's signature with a host of top Serie A, Primera Liga and Bundesliga sides all tracking the South American.

Barcelona join chase for Liverpool FC's Javier Mascherano
by Richard Buxton.

Barcelona are hoping to trump Inter Milan after renewing their interest in wantaway Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

On Thursday the 26-year-old's agent revealed that negotiations had taken place with Inter director Marco Branca over a possible switch to the San Siro, where he would be reunited with former Reds manager Rafael Benitez.

But the Catalan giants have since stepped up their plans for Mascherano and are planning to table a fresh bid after Benitez denied the Argentina captain a move to the Nou Camp last summer by placing a £50million price tag on his head.

Funds from Yaya Touré's imminent £25million move to Manchester City have been earmarked by Pep Guadriola to spend on his successor and Barca are hoping that Mascherano's yearing for a return to a Spanish-speaking country will weigh in their favour.

Manager-less Liverpool are keen to keep hold of the defensive midfielder but a bid of £30million could be enough to force the hand of the Anfield board, with the club's debts continuing to mount up.

Liverpool hierarchy confident they can keep Fernando Torres at club
By Matt Monaghan

Liverpool chiefs remain confident that star striker Fernando Torres will spurn Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City to stay at the crisis club for one more season.

The Spain international striker has been at the centre of transfer rumours since the Anfield outfit laboured to a seventh placed League finish last term. With no Champions League football on offer and debt of £351.4 million, a sale had been reported to be on the cards.

According to the News of the World, Torres has been in regular contact with the Reds hierarchy and is happy to welcome expected new manager Roy Hodgson next week. The 26-year old loves life on Merseyside and wants to give Liverpool one more year to sort out their troubles before he seriously considers his future.

If Torres stays I'll feel so bad for wishing such ill upon him during the world cup. I laughed everytime he missed a chance yesterday.

That is fair. Plus he owes us a year after being injured for half the season. Ha.

Don't call me a bitch!

I think he's like Samson, he needs to grow his hair back.

My wife hates his hair tooo; says its not 'ccuutee' anymore.

He looks like a man again, and not a little girl.

Let's hope with his new hair he'll stop being a whiney little bitch this season, and get injured less too.

Juventus Target Liverpool Midfielder Albert Riera
By Rick D'Andrea
Jun 24, 2010 1:02:00 AM

Juventus have set their sights on Liverpool midfielder Albert Riera, hoping the strengthen their midfield prior to the season beginning.

Riera struggled to find space in the Reds' starting XI, as former coach Rafael Benitez did not allow the player much game time.

The 28-year-old's arrival at the Bianconeri will depend on the sale of midfielder Tiago and defender Fabio Grosso to Atletico Madrid, according to SportItalia.

A figure of approximately €7-8 million is said to be enough to see the Reds allow the player to leave the side.

German teams Hamburg and Stuttgart are also interested in the Spanish international.

Will Arsenal splash £12 million on Liverpool midfielder?
Posted by Cathal Breathnach on June 25, 2010

There are rumours today regarding the future of Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel.

It has been suggested that Arsenal are preparing to make a £12 million bid for the Dutch winger who has struggled to make an impact at Anfield since arriving on Merseyside back in 2007.

Arsene Wenger is ready to splash the cash this summer in a bid to turn his Arsenal side into title challengers for the forthcoming Premier League season but would it make sense for the Frenchman to spend quite a bit of dosh on Babel?

There is no denying that Babel is an incredibly gifted footballer but whether or not he can perform at the highest level on a consistent basis is the big question. The 23-year old failed to nail down a first team place under Rafa Benitez at Anfield since joining the club but would next season be any different for Babel now that the Spaniard has left the club?

Wenger said in a documentary that if a child hasn't got the technical skill at 12, then that's it for the player.

Ryan Babel doesn't have a first touch aged 23 - so why would he buy him?
He wanted him at 20 though... And he's still basically the same chump 3 years later.
Arsenal had a few scouts looking at him. This got turned into 'Liverpool stole Babel from under Wenger's nose'.

Babel's shit and Wenger knows it.

Well, they were keeping tabs on him for quite a long time. It's true though that it was pretty clear Wenger wasn't going to take the plunge by the time we signed him.
