Scharner is an excellent player.

Except that he's not. And moreover he's a fucking nutter.

SWP linked today. Meh.

Good news, Insua continues to be linked with a move away 🙂

Insua's going, thank fuck.

Worryingly, the "Lucas to Inter" stories have gone quiet, though.

Wright-Phillips for £6m (the fee mentioned in the article) would be a good deal IMO. He's not brilliant but he's a better winger than anyone we've got at the moment, he's English, he's still relatively young, and he's got plenty to prove. He'd also allow us to play 442 in certain games when Kuyt on the right wouldn't work.

Roy planning £14m raid for Bundesliga striker?

According to CaughtOffside.com, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has put Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kießling at the top of his list of targets. The website believes Hodgson wants a striker who could be a good foil for Fernando Torres, and could also take the goalscoring burden off the Spanish striker. Kießling is a tall centre forward at 6ft 3 and scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga for Leverkusen last season, finishing second in the goalscoring charts to Wolfsburg’s much in demand striker Edin Dzeko. Kießling is 26 years of age and was part of the Germany squad that got to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Although he only made one substitute appearance in South Africa, the German striker is a very capable footballer, and although he is a very good target, he is also very mobile, and likes to come deep and move out wide to use his pace. At £14million though, a deal would most likely only be done if players departed Anfield this summer.

I would love a striker and a LB (The Portugal LB would be the dream signing) and then either Ozil or Turan. Ozil isn't really an option as his value will rise after excelling at the World cup, but it would be nice to see a link to cheer us up.

Sounds promising. I didn't notice him on his sub appearance. Anyone got an informed opinion on this guy?

i like him a lot..

He shits goals and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.. His skill is very Torres esque. Amazing one minute and loose as hell the next. He has average speed and is pretty tall.. He tends to really want the ball during games and is often involved in all the good things Leverkusen do going forward..

I think he could be an excellent signing to play alongside Torres.

Hodgson ready to land FC Twente forward
10:00 AM 09 July, 2010
Roy Hodgson is hoping to land Bryan Ruiz as his first big signing for Liverpool Football Club.

According to reports in The Mirror, the Reds manager is prepared to pay as much as £13million for the Costa Rica international, who can play on the left flank or as a striker.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2009-2010 season, scoring 24 goals in 34 appearances as FC Twente won the Dutch championship for the first time in their history.

Hodgson had Ruiz watched last term and was lining up him for a move to Fulham, and he has continued his interest now he is in the hotseat at Anfield.

It is believed the Liverpool coach has already been in touch with Twente, as he looks to make their star man his first big signing since arriving on Merseyside.

I worry about signing a player who has excelled in the Dutch league. What is this guy like? He looks talented from a quick youtube link but it is dangerous to judge from that. I presume Roy is getting the lowdown from Steve Van Mclaren.

If he is coming for the left I would rather Arda Turan. He has performed in the CL and Euro Championship. We know he can perform against premiership talent as he gave us the run around a few season back.

Aint ever heard of him.. i too would prefer Turan although his attitude is questionable..

With the situation as is at the moment i think we need proffesional lads over big drama queens. The fans are going to be tough to win over unless winning ways occur immediately under Roy.

Its one of the main reasons id like to see the back of Babel.

Fiorentina Wait On Liverpool's Emiliano Insua

By Salvatore Landolina
Jul 9, 2010 11:09:00 AM

Fiorentina are hopeful of concluding a move for Liverpool left-back Emiliano Insua, but they are still waiting for the bureaucractic wheels to start turning in England.

Il Giornale della Toscana reports the deal has seen a rapid deceleration because new Reds boss Roy Hodgson is taking his time evaluating his squad for next season - leaving the Viola to wait (Stop fucking about Roy!).

Before he decides who should stay or go, Hodgson wants a clear and through inspection of the resources at his disposal before granting freedom for any move.

Previous reports from both England and Italy claimed Fiorentina had struck an accord with Liverpool over a €4 million deal, but the Premier League club need to find a replacement for Insua before he can leave, having already seen Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena flee.?

Someone in work told me we we're linked to Alou Diarra today. How did he forge a career for himself after leaving us withouth a minute of football? Captain of two French clubs and international caps!!

Bit disgusting ain't it? Surely you should play a player before deciding you don't want him
