This ball.

Those who are complaining about boring and staid football so far would do well to remember that Spain, Brazil and Portugal have yet to kickoff their first game!

most of the shots ive seen so far have been poor due to shite execution.

So many of the players are snatching at the ball and simply blasting it.. Its possible that its one of those balls that rewards technique rather than simple Yakubu style power over precision.

However.. its obvious that a lot of players arnt happy with it. It seems to be a regular thing to use the world cup as the guinea pig for testing new balls - Which is fucking daft.

On the Green incident... he has fucked up regularly for years.. He would drop his head if it wasnt stuck on.

Is correct.

Mitre delta my arse oncy.

Another match again that I've watched throughout and I've failed to see any marked difference in how the ball flies, it's trajectory or anything like that. I agree that there may be issues with it, but probably not as catastrophic as some of the players are making out. It seems that any poor shots from range are failing due to poor technique more than anything.

Someone bought me a Mitre Delta Magma and it didn't take long for a panel to rip off. Overrated.

Adidas Tango Orange ball FTW. My childhood was spent with one, it lasted for about 9 yearsin ace condition. Until Piedro kicked it over the fence or something.

The ball does quite clearly stay in the air longer and is more floaty, but so what?

Same for everyone, get on with it.

We've it's still possible to hit it from distance, put good corners in and freekicks.

I was bitching and moaning about the ball as well but then today I watched the Brazilians take several shots from distance and they kept nearly all of them low and at goal height. So obvs. those with talent can still make it work.

They are meant to be the best players in the world. They should be able to play with a tin of peas.

The Brazilians make balls out of string and rags when they are kids.
Not to pick on your post, but I think some of you are missing the point.
No ones saying they CANT play with this ball, what we're saying is it's a shit ball and the best players in the world in the biggest competition in the world shouldn't have to!
FIFA should have done everything in their power to help the best players in the world to actually play football. What they have done is forsaken that opportunity for the occassional thrill of a keeper being beaten by ridiculous swerve from 40 yards.
The ball for a world cup should be perfect. It should be given to a group of top players to test and if they don't like it it should be altered.
It's cutting off their nose despite their face. Yes it's round, yes it's a ball, yes they're all playing with the same thing. But it's crap, and the list of players saying so is growing by the day. Worse still the tournament is the poorer for it.

That's a new one. So they're good lookin'?
😛

To be fair maicons goal kinda proves the audacious can still happen. Ronaldo hitting the post from range, the bar being rattled a few times. I think everyones just being too cautious to begin with and they just don't want to lose. ivory coast v portugal, that was THE important game of that group yet both teams looked shit scared to attack. The ball may have some say on how the tournament has progressed thus far, but i reckon it'll properly get good in the 2nd group games

Oncy, there's no evidence whatsoever that the ball is inconsistent, or would tend to swerve in some ridiculous manner. The only independent testing I've seen shows the opposite.

There's a bit of evidence that it is slightly faster and has slightly less drag. We are talking about factors of 5% or less.

When more teams are on song, we'll hear less about the ball, and it won't be because they've adjusted to it. We'll hear less about the vuvuzelas as well.

The jarmans have had it for a srason to get used to it and it showed.

All I want to know is if it 'tangs' when you launch a traction engine shot. Thhwak

There's the evidence given by a growing list of players. You can't discount that becuase they are talking about reality. The tests that have been conducted are obviously flawed if they do not represent reality.

Don't talk about them being independent as though its some big deal. Just point me in the direction of these tests i would happily tear them to shreds for you and make the researchers look like idiots. which they are.

it is done

David Rogers et al. An Experimental Validation Method of Wind Tunnel Measurements on FIFA Approved Footballs Using Kicking Tests in Wind-Free Conditions. Procedia Engineering 2 (2010) 2481–2486

it's a piece of shit written for a conference by a phd student at loughborough.

The FIFA denominations programme describes seven tests, such as sphericity and
retentions properties, each with specific guidelines and tolerances for football manufacturers in order to obtain the prestigious FIFA approved accreditation [1]. There are however, no current specifications for assessing ball flight characteristics

So the FIFA accreditation is basically also a piece of shit. it doesn't include the flight characteristics. so this paper was trying to propose a test to measure this property, and make some money out of it somehow.

The implication is that when assessing ball flight characteristics of experimental or simulated data it is
important to capture all of the crucial flight parameters

that is the conclusion of his literature review. he then procedes to conduct his tests in a air craft hanger to eliminate the external wind conditions. but despite that qoute he has not measured the air pressure, the temperature or the relative humidity. all of these "paramaters" effect the drag coefficient on the ball and the aerodynamics. and the fact they are all completely difference in south africa and in an RAF hanger would be why i stop reading at this point.

so he does some bullshit tests, with a kicking robot and measuring some forces. comparing it to his model. ok he calculated the drag based on the football being round, and the project surface area is pi r-squared.
but becuase he's an idiot he hasn't even realised that when you kick a football hard it deforms and is no longer round. the difference in drag between something round and something deformed might in fact will be significant. but he's a fucking idiot and doesn't even mention this. why? because he doesn't think about things the way a good scientis must do. fuck this there's no point reading the rest
Youve played with it, it's the one Matt brought that we tried out for two weeks before going back to they yellow one you bring with.
I'm sick going on about it now. It's crap, the players and managers hate it, I don't really care about anything else.

Is it Gas filled? Does anyone know. It's the worst start to a word cup Ever. Ever

yes they'll get used to it but that's hardly the point the Germans can sail through with an unfair advantage.

The bloody thing should never have got of the ground.
