They did, didn't they ?

To suggest they 'thew it' might be harsh but do me a favour if people seriously think that wasn't a gutless Everton performance. To taking way longer than necessary with throw ins(Baines especially) to hardly putting a tackle in or harrying a City side that was at times there for the taking, to passing it sideways in added time. Bizarre stuff.

Not blaming Everton on our Title failure - from the position we were in, but in terms of that game, it was a lame effort imo.
Baines got an assist.

I'd accepted our fate about a week back, but I still ended up wasting 30 mins of my life watching those idiots yesterday. It's funny how hope is like the cuntiest thing ever.

Reid and and Gray are two great professionals.
A great example to the kids at home...

Did Man Utd throw their game against us too?
Cause they were pretty shit.
Maybe they like us.

We beat Kenny's Blackburn team. That was how a proper team played such a game. Unfortunately, many people on here got so wrapped up in excitement prior to the Chelski match they now feel a bit foolish, so they're over- doing the sobriety now. Have a look back at the actual match thread yesterday, and you'll see what people really felt about Everton's performance, before they edited themselves on here.

I stand by my comments yesterday. Having seen Everton play quite a few games this season, yesterday was nothing like that sort of performance.
The younger players looked like they wanted to win but the older looked like they couldnt care less.
In hindsight I guess the crowd played a part. Even the most biased journos admitted thst Goodison was off...
Barkley was very good though.

I now have placed all my trust in Kevin Nolan.

No he isn't.
"As a boy I supported... Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from The Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool's Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me."

From his one cross the whole game. For a player who's made his name as an attacking, demon-crossing fullback he didn't turn up yesterday.

More often than not, he received the ball wide, slowed things down, turned back and passed back to his centre halves. Even with 5 mins left and 'chasing' the game at 5 mins.

As Macca alluded, if any of our players put in a performance like that he'd be crucified on here.

It's no surprise (and still our responsibility to keep matters in our own hands), but pretending all their players put a 100% shift in yesterday is plain wrong.

I think pretending they didnt is fucking tragic.
I dont often disagree with Macca but to dissect their performance and come up with conspiracy I call shenanigans.
That said each to their own. I cant tell anyone what to think. I like to think we arent bitter and shit but its hardly a massive deal.
Everyone I know who isnt a Liverpool fan seems to think they gave it a good go.

Sorry that looks like im singling Macca out im not at all.
Like I said I cant see anything in that performance to suggest a lack of attempt.

Yes. But that refers to 'He WAS a Liverpool fan'. You might as well say 'Ian Rush is an Everton fan'. Baines, like that other childhood red Peter Reid, now hates LFC with a passion, so I don't get the relevance.

There's no point complaining about Everton. If any team was never going to do us a favour, it's them.

Fact is, most games at this stage of the season are an exercise in mediocrity for a lot of the teams. They knew that European footy was in the bag and will have realistically given up on CL qualification.

It's just luck of the draw who you face for the last 3-4 games. Season is over for Palace and Newcastle so they're decent fixtures for us. However, it would be totally different if they were facing relegation or in a battle for euro qualification.

Fact is, we couldn't score against a second string Chelsea team at home to leave it in our hands so we can't bemoan what anyone else does or doesn't do. Everyone will always just do what suits themselves.

Yeah, I only spoke to a couple but - albeit with somewhat mixed feelings - they did too, and they felt certain the players would.

Oncy's thinking too hard and dead set on his standard 'you're all paranoid' stance.

We don't think there was some cloak and dagger, behind closed doors get together at Everton HQ, where they decided to fuck it up. It was just pretty obvious during the game, that a select few weren't that arsed. Baines included, regardless of his roots.

Exactly. Look at the difference between that game Saturday and United a few weeks ago, miles apart in terms of basic work-rate and intensity. When one of the big boys come to Goodison again next season, will we see some of them Everton players stroll around, taking an age to take a throw in or free kick? Will we fuck.

And yeah, cracking cross by Baines for their 2nd goal. Aside from that, I've never seen as subdued performance from him.

Im not at all Mark. I just think if you look at any game of football EVER you could say exactly the same thing.
Ive never ever seen a game where some players dont look at it. And i saw nothing in that game to suggest it was anything other than a normal game with a normal outcome. And I think questioning players integrity (dress it up as you like thats the suggestion here) is really distasteful.

But look. Its not like I actually give a fuck what anyone else thinks about a football game so lets not hammer this nail home any longer. Everyone can think what the fuck they please.

The singing about Gerrard - I could have sworn it was the City fans, but were the home supporters singing it too?

All of Man City's songs by the way, besides Blue Moon, are about other clubs. I've never noticed that before.

Everton threw the game ? maybe not every player, but there was some out there that obviously weren't trying

No they didn't throw it. They ran the best team in the league close and almost got a draw without their two best players this season.

Couldn't fault them.

I know mate, it seemed like there was an upside for them with regards to us not winning the league, so I do feel like a few of them had that "can't be arsed" look. Distasteful or whatever, it was below par from Howard and Baines, two players who've been on form all season.

Let's face it, had they helped us win it, we'd have reminded them of it constantly forever, but by the same token, resting on finishing 5th, instead of going for the outside chance of finishing 4th just showed them up for what they are. A bunch of unambitious, small-timers.

Like I said, we had it in our own hands, but I think from their point of view, it was a subdued showing from their fans and a few players. Whether the lack of an atmosphere added to it, probably, but again - with 4th to play for and the potential champions on show, I can't think of many other reasons why their fans weren't as ferociously behind their team, as they normally would be.

Fuck them though, it's done, we just need to win the last two games and hope.

City were really poor though DB, the way they got the first two goals was thanks to two pieces of poor goalkeeping and some really lax defending. Barkley's goal was brilliant, but how many of them come off? I don't think they particularly ran them close, City looked like they would score everytime they went forward, without ever having to get out of 2nd gear. Everton for the most part, pissed about with the ball at the back.

I'll repeat what I wrote on another thread - the Dzeko time wasting in the dying mibutes of the game was a disgrace.
The way the Everton players were just standing there for 4 minutes without doing anything to stop that farce shows how meaningless that game was for them.
I'm not sure you could say that they gave the game to citeh, but they certainly didn't give a fuck about the result.
