The midfield is decent but not great or particularly well balanced and crumbles (along with the attack) far too easily when put under any kind of real pressure. The past few years has repeatedly shown that work ethic sadly doesn't always make up for a lack of game intelligence and steel.
Thus far it definitely seem the case that we're pinning our hopes on building a team that can pull together to be greater than the sum of it's parts as it's hard to see any player we've signed or been linked to being a complete game changer for us in this department.
As for the DM position, if last season is anything to go by, Can is going to be one of the first names on the team sheet as the deep lying midfielder. With that in mind, it would seem a waste of resources to bring in an expensive midfielder to compete for that same spot.
I wonder what Klopps sees as his backup option. Hopefully it's not Stewart / Lucas.
