Aston Villa have signed defender Ryan Bertrand on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old has played more than 50 times for the Blues, including in their Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 2012.
Bertrand had a regular role in the first team last season but only made three appearances since Jose Mourinho returned as manager last summer with Ashley Cole and Cesar Azpilicueta keeping his playing time limited.
Villa boss Paul Lambert said: "Ryan brings a lot of big-game experience, not only in the Barclays Premier League but even a Champions League final which Chelsea won, so he'll be really good for us.
"The way he plays the game and as a person, too, he'll fit in here great and it will be good for him also to be playing games. He has real enthusiasm for the game and he's looking forward to playing here.
"We're grateful to Chelsea for allowing him to come here on loan and we know he'll be really good to work with."
Bertrand added: "It's a fantastic opportunity for me to come here. Aston Villa is a fantastic club with a massive fanbase and a great history. To get this chance to come here and play some games will be a really good step for me.
"Whenever I've played for Chelsea here at Villa Park the fans have been fantastic and have always created a great atmosphere.
"I've had to adjust many times in my career having played under several managers, so I know I can settle in here quickly and I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to the team.
"This is a really traditional English club, a family club as well and you get the feeling that everyone really knows one another, so that side's not been lost either.
"Knowing some of the lads here, too, such as Fabian Delph, Marc Albrighton and a few others will really help, too, and I couldn't be more looking forward to playing my part here."

I think chelsea are heading for having more players out on loan than they have in their squad 😱

I wonder if the way forward in a fair transfer system is to stop the loan system & limit squad sizes so that teams stop "stockpiling" players.

I know they've tried bits of that type of system - but buying and loaning is really out of control.

We're guilty of it as well.

O I love that song - fond memories of listening to it on Saturday mornings on "Childrens Choice" (on Radio 2 I think) back in the day ...

Some Twitter rumours about Everton hijacking West Hams loan for Lacina Traore.

Traore and Lukaku up top, Christ that will be a handful for defenders.

Chelsea have six players on loan at Vitesse who are currently joint top of the Eredivisie with Ajax. This is way higher than they would be without them.

According to Martinez clubs are falling over themsleves to loan Everton good players, now they are attempting to hijack other clubs at the last minute.

[article]Jorginho’s move to Napoli is thought to be imminent, as he didn’t train with Verona today and could have his medical tomorrow.

The Brazil-born Italy Under-21 international playmaker is wanted by several clubs, including Liverpool, Fiorentina and Milan.

However, Sky Sport Italia and other sources are confident a deal has been struck between Hellas Verona and Napoli.

Jorginho did not take part in today’s training session with his Verona teammates today, as the club confirmed he had been given the day off.

It’s strongly believed he could have a medical and complete his Napoli move on Saturday.

This also means Jorginho won’t be able to play for Verona in their big trip to Milan on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 18 Serie A games this season.

It’s rumoured Napoli have agreed to buy half Jorginho’s contract for €5m and a further €5m for full ownership at the end of the season.[/article]

Same here, always liked him to.

Yeah. Didn't like his BS after the derby. He denigrated our play and our goals (because they were set-pieces) ignoring the fact that 2 from their 3 goals also came from set-pieces. He also denied that yer man's challenge should have been red. Thought to myself, 'I could quite dislike you'.

[article]High-flying Napoli are set to sign Brazilian midfielder Jorginho from Serie A rivals Hellas Verona.

"Jorginho is here but we need a bit of time to put the fine details on the contract," coach Rafael Benítez told a news conference on the eve of Sunday's trip to Bologna.

Media reports said the 22-year-old would sign a four-and-a-half year contract with Napoli.

"Jorginho ... is a quality young player which means he can help the team today but also be a player for the future," added Benítez.

Jorginho has scored seven goals in 18 appearances this season, helping promoted Verona to climb to sixth in Serie A.

Napoli are third, 10 points behind champions and leaders Juventus who host Sampdoria later on Saturday.[/article]

Does this leave us clear in the chase for M'Vila?

[article=http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=127294#tWzjeoog9EsLMFGy.99]Sam Allardyce has admitted that the deal to sign Lacina Traore is almosr certainly dead in the water.

Allardyce, speaking after West Ham's disappointing 3-1 reversal at home to Newcastle this afternoon told reporters that any deal is now "unlikely" after another unnamed club, known to be Everton, came in for the player.

"I had a terrible day yesterday when I found out that one player I thought was signing for us wasn't," he said.

And on the question of obtaining a work permit, he added: "They [Everton] can apply for a work permit like we did, they have to do a second application. Obviously if we got it they know they can get it."[/article]

Increasingly, certainly over the last 6 matches with one to two conceptions, it's obvious that our needs are at the back rather than up front. We can defend a lead and are as likely to concede another goal once we let one in. The centre-halves are poor at key instances (Benteke seemingly had all the time and space to pass to Agbonlahor for the first Villa goal) while the two fullbacks have been borderline diabolical.

We also need to fix whatever ails Mignolet, and quickly.

Honestly think the CBs have been left with to much on their plate lately because of our shite fullbacks and Gerrard playing in front of them,
its getting more annoying by the week seeing Gerrard starting for us.

Some matey wrote on here the other week that Rodgers trying to accomodate Gerrard will cost us any chance we have of winning the league, it'll cost us any chance of CL if we are not careful.

Not much of a fan of Allen but fuck that Spurs midfield performance was impossible to ignore along with the few games after that even though we didn't get the results we deserved, thats what its all about isn't it? functioning like a proper fluid team, it was a buzz to see us doing it like that.

Thats not only the future for us its the way we should be doing it right now, surely Rodgers knows that? i cant criticise him for much but he hasn't got the balls to drop Gerrard and do whats best for the team and thats a load of bollocks.

Obviously Lucas is injured now but if we get M'Vila/Fernando theres no reason we can't carry on that good work, i keep asking and no-one ever answers but what is going to happen when Rodgers signs a couple of proper midfielders? (he surely has to do this by the start of next season) he'll still play Gerrard won't he and the likes of Henderson/Allen and whoever else will barely get a sniff and everything will still be done for Gerrard first and the team 2nd.

Gerrard could play in a 4-2-3-1 formation alongside a proper defensive mid and be very effective. Similar to how Alonso operated with Mascherano. The problem is we have two outstanding strikers whose form demands they play.

And there's the problem - 2 good strikers that can play together, but only at the expense of the team.

Obviously Twitter itself is not the problem, it is the people who post it.

If Joe Nobody came up to you in the street & said that he had seen Messi in the back of a cab on the way to Melwood, you would treat it with disdain. If an Echo writer said he had heard that BR was looking at M'Villa you would give it some credence. Move those two rumours from those two sources to Twitter & the reaction should be the same.

Anyway - don't knock Twitter, just remember the excitement & ultimate joy it brought us during the G&H court case.

BTW I don't use Twitter (post or read), I just rely on it being filtered & repeated here.
