Is it still Harry's?

Or is Woy now the leading candidate given Harry is ruining Tottenham's season?

that said with the lack of time the england manager has with the players do you want complex tactics to confuse the players or do you want simple tactics that simply play to the england's players strengths. the latter being rednapp's forté

Spurs are great when they're in all out attack mode. Very similar in many ways to Utd but they don't have Utd's composure in defence or the ability to 'manage' games when they can't get their attacks going quite as well. I put this down to the very obvious disparity in quality when it comes to the teams respective managers ability to handle bribes and bungs.

if your team is clueless without the ball or under the cosh then you'll nothing on the international stage.
spurs have been utterly shocking in the last few weeks defensively but maybe you have to give them the benefit of the doubt seeing as this only started happening when rednapp got linked to the england job so maybe he was distracted.

I would give it to Hoddle, never sacked for footy reasons and his team in 98 and 99 played superbly

Ron Greenwood set up a management network that meant there were several young managers getting training 'on the job' and a reasonably clear line of succession was in place. And of course the FA decided to drop it after it had worked relatively well for quite a while. I agree that Hoddle ought to have carried on, his sides had a bit of flair and nous, although he was a poor (dread phrase) man-manager.

I think they have one win in their last 9 games, yet despite this poor form it seems that Arry gets a free pass from the press.

They're already building a special facade of a BMW, complete with an open window, for the technical area at Wembley so 'Arry can shout instructions.

I think Rafa would be a pretty poor choice for international management. His management style depends on each player being well-drilled, and following specific instructions. With so little time with the players, I don't think that's really achievable. I think a manager like Harry is preferable, because when the players see the manager so infrequently, you just want someone who will give the players a bit of confidence and belief in themselves. Harry tends to be fairly good at that.

I think Rafa would do well in tournaments, when he'd have the players as a group for a decent amount of time.

I don't think it really matters for this tournament.

What we need is a complete overhaul. As I said a couple months ago, in an ideal world I'd try and make Wenger an offer he can't refuse and give him complete control over *everything*.

I would like to see Benitez as England manager, but I don't think it would happen.

For one, the FA would probably be pretty nervous of him and also, they are at the stage they were at in the mid 90s, when they want a manager who will be popular with the fans and media in a kind of 'one of us, salt of the Earth, plain speaking' way.

Their strategy of selecting managers at that time had become unpopular after Taylor failed so dismally, and now their current strategy of appointing foreign managers - which was never that popular anyway - has pretty much run its course too.

I'm really not arsed. Harry is the media darling but they'd be on his back within seconds after one bad result anyway.

Id definately give it to Glen Hoddle.
The football in 1998 was great. We really did look on the cusp of getting it right.
Been shit for the 15 years since.
The fact the FA have said they are close to hiring someone makes me think it is Harry tho.
I dont mind that.

Hoddle hasnt managed since 2006 and his two seasons with Wolves resulted in nearly 50 % draws in the Championship (74 games).
Thats not good at all. And giving him the job after a successfull spell 13-14 years ago is not the way forward.

It should be Harry. He's the best man for the job and the best English coach available. Regardless of how their season is turning out now, he's done very well with Spurs and is the media darling.

If they give it to Hodgson or Pearce, the football will be so poor to watch that people will poke their eyes out during the Euros.
And they'll last a very short time.

Surely Glenn Hoddle has been out of football for too long
I think he has been out of reality for too long*.

*As a Northern Ireland fan, I hope England get Pearce, Hoddle or Steve McClaren is that order of preference.

So giving it to the best manager weve had in two decades is a bad idea but giving it to a man whos won one fa cup in a 30 year career is the way forward.
I dont really give a fuck to be honest. Theyll still play Gerrard on the left and Rooney on his own and fuck it up.
