Swansea (H)

The attacking players press like psychopaths in the opposition half. But in our own half, the defenders seems to have misunderstood why the fans are applauding when they regularly back off and allow people to take world class shots at goal.

Gerrard's been fucking awful as a DM today.

He's never been a DM, he's not particularly suited to it. He's a very good, very versatile player, so he can always do a job there, and look brilliant in patches, but his decreasing athleticism makes that less the case over time. He can't just recover every time he isn't instinctively in the correct position.

Great challenge there from Skrtel after some atrociously dangerous play in transition.

True, but if a couple of this passes would have worked it would have looked a lot better on him.

He's increased his work rate a great deal this last few games, & he's arguably just behind the three S's in terms of creativity so I'll forgive him losing the ball more than some.

I thought his work rate had dropped off so far today, thats another part of why I haven't been impressed. When we're wide open like this and his passes aren't working I'd consider a swap for Allen.

I'm not saying he's shit or anything, just based on the way the game has gone so far with Gerrard looking like he needs help

We have a terrible habit of turning back and playing the ball from an attacking position all the way back into our own area. Or not, in Hendo's case. If you're going to lose the ball, lose it with an attacking pass, not a long ball deep into your own half!

coutinho is having a poor 1st half
flanno is struggling, especially in possession
gerrard is drfiting too deep
sterling has drfited after a great start.

we need much more energy.

I agree completely. That pass to Sturridge, and that penalty has been masking what has essentially been very dodgy play by him in that position for the past 7-8 games. He is terrible positionally, drops way too deep - fails to give the CBs a passing option, or pick up the midfield runner.

His passing is also very streaky. He's capable of the sublime - that we all knew anyway, but he gives it away pretty often, and he's also poor at passing out of pressure when he's forced to face our goal. It's one of the reasons he drops so deep - so that he's with his back to our goal more often than not.

Coutinho will probably get more good stats by the end of this game but once again, he's nowhere near dominant enough for a player of his talent. He should be an absolute pest for Swansea but he's hardly ever in the game.

And Gerrard gets paid in what?
Be a bit more consistent.
Agger just did something heroic, there has to be some level of respect...
This site has become rather obvious hasn't it?

All through the thread Agger gets sticks whilst no one mentions the major culprit today. Skrtel has played like a League Two defender having an off-day.

And Agger has actually been pretty good and made a few vital last ditch interceptions. One saving Skrtel's ass when he tried to prevent a forward to get to the ball at the byline.

But yeah, Agger's the clown. Obviously.

Flanagan's defensive limitations being exposed a bit, but he played a big role in the third goal.

Johnson's not been bad, played some good passes to create attacks.
Mignolet has actually been pretty good in the sweeper role, clearing up some tricky spots.

Suarez very poor to start the match, but has been fantastic later on.

Very strange first half. We look good going forward but shite at defending.
At 2-0 you expect us to control the game and then 2-2 out of nowhere.
Swansea are exploiting the space our midfield leaves behind and we gift them chances with some insane mistakes.
The whole defensive unit look awful and you'd think pushing Johnson in there has unbalanced us a bit.

Rodgers need to give them a bollocking as this simply isnt good enough.
We need to score one more as Swansea will get a least one more if we carry on like this.

Agger has been decent but his decision to let Bony stand alone at the free kick was horrendous.
The whole team has been poor defensively.

Anyone watching a stream from a US sports channel needs to avoid using the word 'transition' to describe periods of play. Thanks very much.

Skrtel can actually win a header without giving it away immediately by mistiming his jump.

And I'm by no means a Skrtel fan or an Agger hater.

Dunno what's been said in the last few pages, but bar one great block towards the end Agger has been shocking, simple as, I've counted about 7 individual errors. Skrtel and Gerrard have been guilty of mistakes too, but Agger is currently the weak point at the back.

I'd be tempted to introduce Allen for Coutinho soon too.

Agger has by far been our best defender in the air all Season winning far more aireal duels than any other defender we have got.

This is not an opinion btw.
