So... Blackburn (H) FA Cup

It's not really the same for both sides is it though. One likes to play fast passing/dribbling possession football and the other aggressive, get it down the wings and cross or just lump it up to the big man. Who's it going to affect most ? I said this in the thread on the condition of our pitch. It could and will affect our results.

I know mate. It affects us more but this will be seen as an excuse by some. 😉

Very compact Blackburn side yesterday. Yes, they parked the bus, and they did it well. They got themselves a replay at home, which is exactly what they wanted.

Our team selection was all wrong. Johnson needs to be sold this summer. I know people think he played well, but the reality is, he was very poor, and that's being lenient on him. The money he's earning is fucking ridiculous considering how little of a shift he puts in. I think he made 1 tackle, and put in 1 half decent cross, and everything else he did was fucking awful. Obviously, losing Skrtel so early in the game didn't help matters either. Lallana looks absolutely knackered. How is this? It's not like he's in his 30s or anything. He has some lovely skill but he has no pace at all.

The other point is, Marriner was awful. We were kicked, beaten and basically assaulted for 90 minutes and I think he only showed Blackburn 1 yellow card. Not to mention a textbook penalty he missed in the first few minutes (I don't think the later one was nailed on, as Sturridge was never getting the ball).

It doesn't matter whether Sturridge was getting the ball or not. It was still a foul and should have been a pen. If Marriner failed to give it for that reason he's even worse than I thought he was.

I think there's a bit of a grey area there and I won't argue as I'm not 100% sure of my facts.

But I think we can both agree that Mariner was clueless yesterday.

Yeah, but it gets tiresome listening to managers talk about tactical master-plans, as though putting 10 men behind the ball is anything particularly groundbreaking or any form of innovative thinking. Cf Mourinho.

Mourinho using these tactics with a billion pound squad is rather different from a mid table championship squad. They did what they needed to. It was up to us to break them down.

They will probably have to come out and attack in the replay, which will play into our hands.

Yeah I know, fair play to them, they got what they came for and frustrated us, so they deserve some credit for that, but all the talk of tactical masterplans is way overboard, they did what any underdog would try to do, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. They defended well and we had an off day, shit happens, as it has done throughout the competition to big sides this season.

Yes. This bloke went for an obvious tactical approach and it worked, with help from a ref who'd forgotten his yellow cards. But he's rapidly becoming like Meryl Streep and her accents. 'We'll have another plan for the replay'. You're a so-so manager of an adjunct of a chicken dipper business, answering to a bloke who looks like he's just eaten Barry White - just shut up and get on with it.

We played it completely wrong our tempo was awful until midway through the second half.

We didn't get Coutinho on the ball enough, although they were sort of man marking him.

As I have said time and again Lallana is his own worst enemy - PASS THE FUCKING BALL. He is showing his championship mentality of trying to beat the player again after already doing the hard work. There was a moment where he showed absolute class by bringing the ball under control, which had the man beaten, and then decided to turn back into him. This meant that everyone in the box had already made the run and we had lost the momentum. He needs to sort this out as it is causing us real problems. If Countinho frustrates you then this is infinitely worse...

What pattern? We haven't lost a game for ages, have we only been playing the good teams? It amazes me, when we started this run, the posters who had previously been laying into Rodgers said we had only managed to string a few results together because we'd had a run of easy games. Now there's a pattern emerging after a draw against a shit team, on the back of a run of three months of brilliant form.
I did not say we lost or anything.

I pointed out..we struggle to break teams down of inferior quality to us.

Leicester, Beskitas and Bolton are recent examples. Even include Everton if you like.. (Given where they are)

Stats don't lie.

We perform better against better competition, yet against lowly sides it is a different story..

Also that Anfield pitch I think has a lot to do with our occasional below par performances at home. The pitches current condition is certainly not helping our cause

How in hell has it been allowed to get in such a state

Most teams struggle against hard well drilled sides who are happy with a draw. At this stage in a league season most sides are looking for a win and give us more space. I wouldn't worry too much about yesterday.

Hope you're right, Woland. It was nagging at me yesterday whether this game against Blackburn would be another one of those "watershed" games which provides a kind of blueprint to future opponents on how to play against our current formation. But I think that the combination of comments above regarding the number of games we've recently played, the state of the pitch at Anfield, playing a team that's happy to get a draw, the absence of key midfield players, etc., adds up to the fact that this is a blip.

Alan Turing!

It was shite alright - Probably the worst game I've seen at Anfield. The highlight of my trip up (apart from meeting @Brizzle sound Uncle) was the sausage dinner I had after the game. Extra gravy! Lovely. 🙂

When I saw you'd tagged me in a post I was expecting to see a picture of our ugly mugs!

My highlight of the trip was discussing various forum posters by the handles loudly in the train carriage, must have been funny to those around us.

"blah blah blah That Paul Count Fella"
"blah blah Judge Jules"
"that Modo guy"
"did I tell you about the time I met Skully.." etc etc

Big love to @Lippy 's wife for getting the third ticket to us - hope your son is feel better mate!
@ILD & @Aidan O' Neill - the beers will be on me if we make the final and you come over for it.

Does any one want me to try pick up some Blackburn away tickets? Previous users of the card gets first preference.

Yeah some of you lot got proper slagged off by @Brizzle - I tried to defend you but what can I say? The guy is 6ft 6 and a fucking competing rower! 😉 Fun day - shit game.

I'm after a couple of tickets for me Dave. I'll be trying for one on my season ticket of course as well but if you could bear me in mind just in case that would be sound

No hassle Sean. As soon as the ticket details are announced we'll know the story.

@Lippy

Sale is Monday. You still looking for tickets?

Any of the other regulars looking? Might be a nice little away trip for some.
