Strikers we could get now

Australian media think Sydney FC have a deal, but it’s now rumoured Alessandro Del Piero is considering an offer from Liverpool!

The former Juventus legend is out of contract and evaluating several proposals from Sydney FC, Sion and Southampton.

The Australians are confident he will be presented to the media tomorrow, but Italian transfer pundits revealed a shock twist this evening.

It is reported that Del Piero has received a late offer from Liverpool, who face a striker shortage after releasing Andy Carroll to West Ham United without bringing in a replacement.

Southampton had potential, as Del Piero has always said he’d like to experience the Premier League, but Liverpool bring even more prestige and atmosphere.

‘Pinturicchio’ wore the Juventus jersey for 20 years and turns 38 in November.

Ivan Klasnic has signed for Mainz on a one yr contract yesterday.

Klasnic had been looking for a club ever since his deal at Bolton had expired after the 2011/12 season. The Croatian striker told the German press bureau DPA that he is looking forward to his time at Mainz:

"I had a number of offers on the table, but the chance to play for the FSV Mainz and in the Bundesliga was by far the most tempting."

Mainz manager Christian Heidel has finally found a solution to the problem Thomas Tuchel had faced upfront. The Mainz coach’s only choice upfront had been Adam Szalai after Mainz had lost Anthony Ujah (1.FC Köln), Petar Sliskovic (Dynamo Dresden), Mohamed Zidan (Baniyas SC), Sami Allagui (Hertha BSC) and Deniz Yilmaz (SC Paderborn) during summer. Heidel himself is delighted to welcome the experienced striker to the club:

"Ivan Klasnic was always our Plan B, and we wanted to execute said plan after the transfer of Adrian Ramos had failed."

The 41 time Croatian international has all the trades Heidel was looking for:

"Our attackers are very young, and we needed an experienced man who knows the Bundesliga well. We see just that in Ivan Klasnic, who has shown his class on the pitch for every team he has played for."

Ex-Liverpool forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle signed a two-year contract with Russian Premier League side FC Rostov on Wednesday.

In August, the 27-year-old striker left Sporting Lisbon by mutual consent, after playing only five matches in two seasons and spending most of his time out on loan.

Sinama-Pongolle’s Russian wife will help him adapt to the move, he said.

“I hope I will adapt quickly to the new country and the new team. I’m relying upon the help of my wife Anastasia, who is from Russia, and my new teammates,” he said on the Rostov website.

“It’s obvious that the team has character, ambition and it is run by qualified coach Miodrag Bozovic. I can say that I come to Russia as no tourist, I hope that I’ll be able to help Rostov to reach the targets that have been set.”

Sinama-Pongolle was signed by Liverpool on a five-year deal in 2001 after he won the under-17 world championship with France, winning the Golden Boot and Golden Shoe in the process.

The forward scored only four times in his 38 appearances for the Reds, where he was in the squad for Liverpool’s victorious Champions League campaign in 2005.

After leaving Liverpool in 2006, he played in Spain for Atletico Madrid and Recreativo before moving to Portugal in 2010.

I'd have thought Liverpool fans would be tired of watching fucking shit footballers play for their club, but seemingly not.

I get the talk of Michael Owen being a useful pick up, but everyone else considered or mentioned has been an absolute joke.

What's the point of all of this speculation - ideally if we were to get a striker we would want someone like Torres at his best. Today there was a little news article in the London Evening Standard, and it was about LFC beig wrecked by King Kenny, and then went onto the damage also done by our prevous and new American owners. The later was mentioned in conjunction with our buys in the transfer window where Joe Allen was described as a gem and Borini a dud - although in brackets it had 'early days yet'.

The point is if were to get a striker that would immediately score a load of goals in BR's system then we would probably have to spend at least £40M or something stupid these days. The other point being good quality strikers are at this moment in time (transfer window or not) SHORT SUPPLY !!!. We are probably better of using this whole season to just play our youth and see if they can produce the goods - give them a run in the team, we had our chance to buy proven quality at a dirt cheap price of 6M and we decided not to. Lets just go with youth - and play them in each game, Rafa would have done this and so would GH. I don't see why BR does not do it either.

They're going to have to be the now, well the strikers.
Why not Gary - I say throw them in (i.e. the strikers) - besides everyone in the team (except Joe Allen) is learning Tiki-Taka in actual PL games (least I hope they are - it makes the mistakes easier to take !!!) so why not add another student up front. Besides - I don't think we would notice much difference if we droped Borini.

I agree. Even if we had signed Dempsey/Sturridge/Walcott, I don't think we'd have been challenging for the title anyway. I'm more than happy to give BR plenty of time to get us back on the right track.

I had never heard of FC Rostov before in my life until I read that Pongolle piece.
After learning that one of the top ten earners in the world of football is one - for me - completely unheard of Argie that's playing for a - for me - completely unknown Chinese team, nothing in the world of football will ever surprise me again.

This week.

‘Liverpool didn’t consider Michael Owen,’ Rodgers told Talksport. ‘If we didn’t get the targets that we hoped to get in the transfer window, I was going to go with what I had.
‘There’s no point putting money into the academy and then not giving young players a chance. Look at the impact Raheem Sterling has made as a 17-year-old. All I’ve given him is an opportunity and he’s gone on and taken it.
‘We’ve got a number of other young talents and hopefully over the coming months we can see them and see how they flourish.’

This is good to hear. We may as well see what we've got.

I didn't think Sterling was particularly ready but what a revelation he has been.

Pace and skill seemingly outweigh strength and experience. I'd like to see Ibe next and Yesil given a game in the Europa league.

I thank Darwin tbh. But yeah, without sterling this season would look poor so far.

That said I'm not overly worried, it's very early days, results will come.

Yes, Raheem has been great.

I can't wait for him to have a couple of *not so great* games, and for bullshit to start.

Because it fucking will.
