Stats, stats and more stats

Ohhhhhhh, I like the way your mind works Count, but I don't think that's right.

Let's look at it another way, the opposite of a through ball could be said to be a back pass, right? But surely a kick-out is the opposite of a back-pass? And double surely, a thing can't have two opposites, right? So a kiuck-out and a through ball can't both be the opposite of a back-pass. One of them is a fraud.

No. Anyone else?

Hoof ball !

Yes, I think it's a "clearance". The opposite of trying to play a weighted and/or angled pass through or over your opponents is to simply boot the ball forward randomly.

Or hold on... what about a pass to a player who has his back to goal?

150 - Number of interceptions made by Liverpool in the league this season, the lowest in Europe.
What does that stat even mean?
Breaking up opposition play.

"Interceptions – A player actively moves to intercept a pass"
For a minute I was dreaming of inception and which level of reality we are at

Craig Bellamy has completed 102 out of 110 passes in the league this season, only 8 unsuccessful and 5 of them against Chelsea.

Here's a question for y'all - what's the opposite of a through ball?
Is it that vertical pass Momo did to himself?

Some of Skrtel's stats are impressive - aerial and ground won, dribbled past. Look at Enrique's passing stats too.

Red = best
Green = worst

Charlie Adam admits he does not look like a long-distance runner bur he is Liverpool's hardest working midfielder. The Scot has run 78.27 miles in 12 Premier League matches. Lucas (71.43 miles) has covered the next furthest distance.

Adam has only been out-run by Aaron Ramsey (81.68 miles) and Yaya Toure (79.1 miles) when compared with the midfielders of Arsenal, Spurs, Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool. He has run on average 6.52 miles per game.

Those defensive stats make a mockery of some peoples misconceptions about the way our defenders play and the gulf in technical and defensive ability between them.

Quelle surprise.

(Against Fulham) Arsenal had no French player in starting line up for first time in Premier League since Sep 2005 v West Ham.

LFC have scored the same number of goals as bottom of the table, Blackburn, and fewer goals than Norwich and Bolton. (That's the problem.)

Nigel Adkins' side (Southampton) are pushing for a 21st successive victory on home soil a feat last achieved by Liverpool in 1971/72 as their fine form at St. Mary's in 2011 continues.

107 - Luis Suárez is the only Premier League player to have made 100+ touches in the opposition penalty area this season.

Since the defeat at Tottenham, LFC have won six away games in a row, by a combined score of 12-3.

Lucas special addition:
Lucas-3-year-Def.jpg

One additional set of statistics not covered in the charts presented here are the Long Passes that Lucas attempted and completed as they relate to the number of Final Third Entries that Lucas made. In the 2011/12 Lucas had already played 133 Long Passes. These are passes from the defensive end to the attacking end. He has connected with 102 – 77%. This is compared to 122 Final Third Entries. This is an excellent balance (nearly a 50/50 ratio) and illustrated exactly how prevalent Lucas was in the the build up to the attack though missing out on credit for the final touches.

The year before, 2010/11, Lucas attempted 378 Long Passes, completing 285 (75%) while also making 288 Final Third Entries. In comparison Frank Lampard played 2026? last term and attempted 184 Long Passes, connecting on 135. Lampard also had 193 Final Third Entries. Because there is an 800? gap between the two last term; rated per minute Lampard would have attempted just 259 and completed 190, nearly 100 fewer Long Passes than Lucas. His Final Third Entries would have been closer, with 272, but still 16 fewer than the Liverpool man. Clearly he has great value to the attack in both the defensive and attack thirds of the pitch despite poor counting numbers like chances created, assists and goals.

Lucas has made 5.7 tackles per game this season - most in the PL and 2nd in top 5 Euro leagues

Spearing's aerial weakness does put him at a slight disadvantage.

LL-v-JS-defending.jpg

It’s important to remember that Spearing’s statistics came from matches where he played alongside Lucas, rather than as a direct replacement, so his role would be slightly different now to how he was asked to play last season.

LL-v-JS-passing.jpg

It’s interesting to note that for 60% of Lucas’ passes go forward, when naysayers have accused him in the past of playing every pass backwards to improve his stats. Instead it is Spearing who favours the safety first approach more often with his passing.

- Since 2003/04, LFC have earned 39% of their total points away from home; so far in 2011/12 it's 52%, having played a game more at home too

23 - Liverpool have the same points as they had in 2009-10 & 4 more than the 19 they'd accrued after 14 games in 2010-11.

12 - Liverpool have hit the woodwork more often than any team this term in the PL & no player has hit it more than S.Downing (3). (11 when Henderson hit it in the first half, 12 when Downing hit the post in the second half.)

Liverpool's tally of 17 goals is the third lowest in their Premier League history after 14 matches (15 - 2006/07 & 16 - 2010/11).

68 - Luis Suarez has won more fouls than any other player in the Premier League since making his Liverpool debut.

Of all players to have scored three or more PL goals this season, Luis Suárez has the lowest shot conversion rate (7.7%).

Robin van Persie has scored or created a total of 40 goals in the Premier League during the current calendar year - 14 more than any other player in the division.

Bolton have lost 16 of their last 19 Premier League games.

Chelsea have exactly the same points (28 from 14 games) as the same stage last season.

Fulham's victory over Liverpool was their first against a member of the current Big Six since they beat Manchester United in December 2009.

Liverpool have scored only one more goal in their first 14 games (17 v 16) than at the same stage last season under Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool have dropped nine points against teams currently in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Luis Suarez has not scored in seven Premier League games in which he has taken 39 shots.

Wayne Rooney has not scored from 22 shots in his last seven games in all competitions.

Newcastle have made more tackles this season (302) than any other PL club.

Spurs have averaged more shots on target per game (7.4) this season than any other PL club including Man City.

You beauty,binny

That suarez stat will do in the ' he never gets freekicks and its all cause of fergie' thread

"if woodwork strikes had been goals"

Somebody actually researched that and drew up a table for it.

Fuck. Me.

Doesn't mean he shouldn't have more. Watch the game against Man City. He got booted everywhere by Kompany and Lescott.

Number of opponents sent off in the Premier League so far this season:

FOUR: Tottenham
THREE: Liverpool, Newcastle
TWO: Man Utd, QPR, Swansea
ONE: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Man City, Norwich, Stoke, West Brom, Wigan, Wolves
NONE: Sunderland

Number of opponents sent off in the Premier League 2010/11:

NINE: Arsenal
FIVE: Bolton, Newcastle
FOUR: Aston Villa, Fulham, Man City, Sunderland, West Brom
THREE: Birmingham, Blackpool, Everton, Liverpool, Wigan
TWO: Blackburn, Chelsea, Man Utd, Stoke, Wolves
ONE: Tottenham
NONE: West Ham

It looks like from that, that the teams that with the exception of City, the teams doing better than expected are getting more men sent off this season. Spurs, Newcastle, QPR, Swansea.

Then you see Sunderland with none... I think we could do with getting a few more sent off.

Good observation, Gerry. Will be interesting to know how much these sending offs actually benefit each team (in terms of points gained/lost).

goalsassists.jpg

Seeing Adam just joined in 2nd half of the yr and Kuyt hasn't been as involved in the starting XI, this chart does point out to our lack of goal scoring contributors.

Liverpool have averaged 28 crosses per game in the league this season, More than any other team.

I wish there was a way of counting shit crosses.

Take that 28 and minus about 2 from it per game = shit crosses

19 - Number of fouls won by Luis Suarez before being acussed of "Diver" by Fergie, compared to 12 after the accusation.

27 - Number of chances created by Stewart Downing this season (0 Assists), Compared to 18 by Ashley Young (5 Assists).

I think this is telling ... btw, anyone notice how average Ashley Young has been since his start to his Manure career?
