Spurs - Are they title contenders?

They'll be stronger as an attacking threat but these new players will need time to adapt and do they bring enough goals?

Chelsea still need another forward but for me, City are the real powerhouses. They've got Aguero and Dzeko (in form) with Jovetic and Negredo to come in. Now that is firepower.

Not to mention Silva, Navas and Toure behind them.

No other team is near that.

As for United, take Van Persie out that team and there's nothing to fear.

You mentioned add van persie to our side & we'd walk top 4. I believe that.

We need a striker who can score from a slightly deeper & more awkward position than most, & who can bury simple chances consistently.

RVP, as amazing as he is, isn't consistent, he misses fuck loads of chances, more than makes up for it though.

RvP scored one of every two chances he got last season. Which is unfuckingbelievable. Suarez scored 1 in 7.

I mean think about it. Suarez would have got like seventy goals last season if he was as clinical as RvP.

I know it isn't that simple but I am so suck it.

Also we had the most chances created and most shots on target in the league in week 1, yet we scored once. Man Citeh were a close second but scored five. Manure were miles behind but scored 4. That's coz RvP is fucking mustard and must be killed.

By the way - blame a keeper having a man of the match performance again if you want... but it's not that simple. Krul played out of his skin against Citeh and still conceded 5. We are just not nearly as clinical as the manc teams.

Which is why I was thinking 30m for some rent boy who dances about on the wing was fucking daft. If we've got 30m to blow on one player it should be someone who scores 1 in 3 or 1 in 4. I don't know who he is by the way, but he must exist. That Cisse or someone.

D.studge and suarez are our forwards though. we're not gonna be replacing them.

Probably not... but look at Manure... last season everyone knew their midfield was shit and their defence needed rebuilding... so what did bacon face do? Said fuck it, get the most clinical striker in the world, fuck all that other shit - paper over the cracks until I fuck off. What a brilliant plan... they pissed the league and he left it for Moyes to sort out.

We are clearly one of the best footballing sides in the league. We all watched all the games over the weekend - did anyone play much better than us? I don't think so. So there is a problem up front. It's doing my head in because I think Sturridge is good enough. I think he's ace. So what's the problem? I can't get my head round it. I've been having problems with my nerves.

i know.

Suarez, Sturridge, Aspas and Coutinho for the attacking three upfront will get us amongst the goals, but I think with our pattern of play, it's the midfield that has to chip in with more, namely the most forward midfielder, Henderson or Allen.

So it's about getting in goal-getters who can play in either, or the ultimate between the lines player like Coutinho. Alberto seems to fit this bill. But we need more proven options.

Real Madrid in the Galactico era showed that having an Uber-talented squad doesn't necessarily mean success. I like Villa-Boas, clearly chastened by his Chelsea experience he seems to be building a very very good team however even last season they shat it and that was with Bale winning them point after point. I wouldn't write them off for the title but by the same token I think Man city are stronger and have a better spine, Chelsea will also most likely be buoyed by the arrival of Maureen and have talent to spare. All the criticism levelled at Arsenal in recent seasons still hasn't stopped them making determined and successful pushes in the second half of the season year after year

It is not quite the same as man City of 2 seasons ago or Chelsea of a decade ago who just came in and spent huge money on a team of up and coming stars, Spurs will face very tough competition I think and I doubt they will win the title. I suspect they will lose some points just by virtue of needing time to gel and the adjustment caused by the loss of Bale.

As for people automatically writing us out of the top 4 picture I would also not be so adamant, IF Rodgers can get our system working well we can prosper and could displace those teams who on paper might appear stronger. It is not necessarily the best team that wins it, United have shown that many times, yeah sure loads of talented players makes it easier but....IF you have a good squad and are not unlucky injury wise with a settled style and leadership... you can do things in this league, big things. I think it is going to be a cracking league this season and very open, I also think that we can be in the mix if we really get on it early doors, maybe not for the title, I would imagine that will go to City or Chelsea. Wenger is right though all of United, Chelsea,City Arsenal, Spurs and us can threaten if they get it right...

I shouldn't be after the last 3 or 4 years but I am feeling quite optimistic about it...In fact due to the Thai TV I was robbing losing the rights to show it Im having Vietnamese Satellite installed tomorrow 😉

I think Sturridge will improve if he can keep his head straight and more goals will come for Coutinho in due time. In the here and now we need another goalscorer as we're too reliant on Suarez and Sturridge. There are a couple others that have goalscoring potential (like Henderson) but we need someone else we can rely on.

Exactly, thats why I've been banging on about a goal scoring LW for ages, it's also why I thought Diego Costa would have been perfect, despite the fact many didn't like him.

erickson seriously looks like a goalscorer. just put him in the number 10 role and leave coutinho on the left. i'd be made up with that. where the fuck's suarez going when he comes back though?

WTF. Spurs won the title in both '51 and '61. Don't you fucking start with this bleeding Sky PL title shit. Gets on my tits big time. By that measure we've won fuck all too.

My bad. It has been that long, and as importantly, SEEM THAT LONG. They haven't put up a title run in eons though. Least we have. Oh how we have.

You're right, they still have players in their teams from those title runs, and that experience will be vital.

Well it's not like other teams are reliant on their top two strikers is it though. RvP (26) and Rooney (12) for United, Mata (12) & Lampard (15), Bale (21) & Defoe (11),

Arsenal & City spread it around more (Arse 4 in double figures and City 3) ..... but neither had a single top striker (Walcott with 14 and Dzeko with 15 were top scorers). I don't see anything wrong with being reliant on 2 strikers.

Only United who ran away with the league (and we're not there yet !) had a top striker and 2 more players in double figures. The year before it was City (Aguero 23 and 2 others in double figures) so it seems for everyone else except the champions it's an either / or situation: Top striker and one excellent back-up or 3 or 4 players with 10-14 goals apiece.

Smart arse. Nobody mentioned experience in that post. When people totally disregard a team's history prior to the Sky era that pisses me off big time. Football didn't begin with a fucking satellite dish on the roof !

It will hinge on whether they spend all of the Bale money remarkably well. They've got a great opportunity to improve and set themselves up as one of the top clubs in England and Europe, but right now nobody has a club what's going on at their club. The next two weeks are huge for the future their club.

I wish them every misfortune possible.

honest to god. they didn't even come 4th last year. they're losing one of the best players in the world and replacing him with an attacking line that is excellent but worse than ours.

what the flying fuck are you all on about?

It was quite clearly being inferred, it's funny you call me a smartarse, as you were the one being a smartarse in the first post.
