Lost Clyne and Schneiderlin.

Wanyama wants out, and Mane is being linked to Manure.

They just got knocked out of Europe now.

Is the talent drain finally catching up to them?

Can they finish in the top 7 again this year? or will they struggle?

They also failed to retain Alderweireld and lost Bertrand and Forster to injury.

Being out of the Europa League is probably what they need right now what with the poor start in the league and the lack of depth in the squad - let them focus on the bread and butter first and try again next season. The problem of course, is how they're going to attract and retain the better players if they're not in Europe again, and not paying closer to what the top dogs can pay. They really could use a couple of seasons of stability in the team personnel. I'm sure Koeman is more ambitious than managing a team that keeps getting its heart ripped out after a good season because the owners won't resist a good offer.

On a related note - I see in the lineups that, after shipping 5 goals in their first 2 league games, Koeman has switched to using 3 CBs in the last 2 games (league game vs Watford and Europa game vs Team AlgoStats) and have conceded just a goal, so that could be a sign of improvement, at least as far as defending is concerned. Then again, the level / quality of the opponents could also have something to do with that.

edit: Just looked at SaintsWeb. They hate the system because now they're hoofing long and not scoring.

Everyone including their own fans tipped them for a relegation battle last season after they lost everyone in the summer, but it didn't work out that way.
Being out of that poxy euro disney cup is a blessing, so I think they'll be alright this season.
